The playwright Thomas Bradshaw isn’t much interested in your pleasure, but he sure seems to enjoy your discomfort. Sex, violence, humiliation, and racism are not just themes for him; they’re stage directions. In works like Purity, Southern Promises, The Bereaved, and Burning, he took explicitness of all kinds to a level guaranteed to cause walkouts or worse. Scott Brown, writing for Vulture about The New Group’s production of Burning in 2011, used the words “turgid,” “psychopathic,” and “wartlike.” They fall short in describing Intimacy, Bradshaw’s followup provocation, also at the New Group. After all, Burning was merely (as the director of both, Scott Elliot, writes in a program note) “a seminal experience.” Intimacy, especially from the front row, is that and more. There aren’t many bodily fluids (or body parts) left unrepresented in Intimacy. (Props to the props folks, who should definitely win the Obie for Best Ejaculating Prosthetic Penis.

You may not know her by name, but "30 Rock" fans will recognize Barrett Doss.
Doss, 23, appeared in the "30 Rock" series finale as Eliza Lemon, Liz Lemon's (Tina Fey) great-granddaughter. Her scene appeared after the credits. In it, Doss' character sits in ageless Kenneth Parcell's (Jack McBrayer) office, pitching a show about the stories her great-grandmother used to tell her. Earlier in the episode, Liz pitched a show about her life to Kenneth, but he quickly shot it down.
"'30 Rock' was -- and still is -- one of my favorite shows," Doss told The Huffington Post via phone. "It was super, super exciting even to just get called in for it because I had never auditioned for them before. That was a really huge surprise. I was just happy to have my first and last chance to do it. It was really awesome."
Once she landed the role, Doss said...

HBO and Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Films are developing an hour-long drama, based on a wealthy academic who becomes the "first black president of a prestigious liberal arts college," THR reports.
The trade says the drama's plot centers on the man's "idyllic public facade," as he and his family face dark personal secrets.
Winfrey will executive produce the as yet untitled project, along with Kate Forte. Playwright and professor, Thomas Bradshaw will write and co-executive produce.
Harpo Films has been in partnership with HBO since 2008, but as of yet none of the pairing's series projects have made it to the network's lineup.

Oprah and HBO are developing a new drama from playwright Thomas Bradshaw about the first black president of a small liberal-arts college. THR reports that the untitled series centers on a "wealthy academic" and his family as they're "thrust into national headlines, forcing them to present an idyllic public façade, all while engaging in agonizing personal battles and struggling with dark obsessions." Bradshaw would write and co-executive produce the show, which means it would be super-intense, polarizing, assiduously provocative, and probably kind of twisted. Great! Our faves!

Let’s first address the flying superhero in the room: No, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark doesn’t (quite) make our list of the worst stage shows of 2011. (You can check out our Mormon-led best list here.) In the end, we decided Spidey’s aerial effects are pretty darned cool, though all too brief, and the retooled show isn’t as unwatchably overwrought as Julie Taymor’s original version. Instead, our evil eye is trained on the year’s even more offensive theatrical blunders like the misguided revival of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (pictured, with Jessie...
