With an anniversary reunion in the pipeline, we celebrate macabre, inventive, brilliant comedy series The League Of Gentlemen...
“Would you describe yourself as an egregious person?” I asked Reece Shearsmith at a recent Q&A. I was nervous. Everyone else had asked questions about his writing, complimented his performances and asked about the upcoming series of Inside No 9. I just wanted to see how he’d respond. “Piss off,” he said. Actually, I shouldn’t put that in quotation marks because that’s not really what he said. What he really said was much more blue but very jovial and the audience all laughed. Phew. I was initially apprehensive that no one would get the reference but I needn’t have been. It turns out The League Of Gentlemen has a timelessness to it and a special place in the hearts of comedy fans that no other show,...

In anticipation for the UK’s biggest mixed martial arts event ever, we preview the so-called Conor McGregor show as he prepares to take on Diego Brandao in a colossal Featherweight clash with huge implications on the current rankings.
The rest of the card features a deluge of exciting match ups, including a very tasty Flyweight battle between Brad “One Punch” Pickett and “Uncle Creepy” Ian McCall. This fight was originally scheduled for Fight Night 37 in London, however an injury foced McCall to withdraw from the fight. Now these two will finally get a chance to clash.
Elsewhere on the card, Ultimate Fighter 19 competitor Cathal Pendred gets his competitive Ufc debut, as he takes on fellow Tuf 19 Middleweight Mike King. Both men were standouts on the show,...

A Ufc fighter stepping into the octagon has plenty to worry about. He or she can be punched, kicked, choked, broken, submitted and beaten to a pulp, and this is all within the rules of the sport. While eye gouges and low blows are not legal in the Ufc, they are not highly punished infractions. In fact, it usually takes the second, if not the third repeated violation of the rule to warrant deduction of a point. This would allow any reasonable strategist to assume their fighter is allowed one eye gauge and one groin shot per match. Compare it to say a foot fault on a serve in tennis. If you wanted to purposely serve it out of bounds, it is within your right under the rules of the game. Obviously, both strikes, the groin and eye gauge, if thrown singular, should not lead to a point deduction. Yet...

When ABC didn't renew Last Resort, most concede that the TV show has been cancelled. Still, some are hoping that the remaining episodes will bring in positive ratings and the network will have a change of heart. It's highly unlikely but stranger things have happened.
The cast and crew are still working on the final two episodes of the season (and most likely the series) and the last episode's script is being tweaked to give the show some closure. On Tuesday, Mike King (Hawkes) wrote, "Back on Oahu, read the last episode of #LastResort and holy crap is it going to be good!"
He tweeted this photo yesterday and wrote, "Laughing till it hurts on set with @JesseLuken & the great @robertpatrickT2 on #LastResort_ABC #FunTimes #CarpeDiem" Earlier, King tweeted, "we have 6 eps to pull off a #miracle! #vote for #LastResort best new drama,...

Ashley’s ex-boyfriend Joe passed away just weeks before she went on ‘The Bachelor’ to court Br ad Womack!
Bachelorette Ashley Hebert has kept mum about the death of her first love Joe Olszewski. He passed away on Sept. 2, 2010 — just before Ashley started filming The Bachelor with Brad Womack. But despite her pain, Ashley never brought up the sad subject of Joe while she was on the show.
She started dating Joe after she graduated from the University of Maine in 2006, where he graduated from the year before her. And they kept in touch after they broke up, even though he lived in California and she was in dental school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
But just before she started filming The Bachelor, Ashley found out that Joe had passed away of complications from pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
“She was really beside herself,” Ashley’s friend Mike King tells In Touch.

This year marks graphic designer and poster artist Pete Cardoso's sixth time showcasing his Ghost-Town Design work at Flatstock, and when I ran into him he was celebrating, not a run in with a musician, but with another kind of rock star. "I was at The Sounds' show with my girlfriend last night and we met Jon Hamm. My wife wanted to say hi, and I was like, 'I mean, of course. It's Don Draper.'"
Cardoso strikes me as a fellow who would have done well in the Mad Men days of advertising -- he is a man of varied inspiration, with diverse applications for his talents. In addition to his posters, he designs apparel, merchandise, and album covers. It's not very punk rock for a poster artist to talk about their day job, but Cardoso proudly speaks of his full-time graphic designer gig at Reebok -- like Draper,...

This review was originally published during the 2009 SXSW Film Festival. Died Young, Stayed Pretty opens in New York today at the IFC Center. There is also an opening party tonight at the 92Y Tribeca. I've hung out with enough graphic design nerds to know how tedious their fetish can be to the unconverted, and the options for a documentary about rock posters seemed to be either that kind of geekery or hipster hagiography. "Culture is that thing you shovel out of your window in the evening," interviewee Mike King wisely announces in Died Young, Stayed Pretty; "otherwise, it will drown you." The danger in such a project is obviously that kind of self-valorizing mythology, when your clique ...
