Welcome to our fifth and final week of exclusive on-the-set coverage from Atlanta for Spirit World Films' Creature Feature. This is Swf’s fifth feature in less than three years, their last two films, Realm of Souls and Buried Cain, having both been picked up for global distribution.
Spirit World is the brainchild of three talented indie trendsetters: Chase Smith, Lance Paul and Edward Boss. These Southerners are turning the game upside down on what the true meaning of indie global films is.
With films budgeted at less than $20k, their combined multi “hat-wearing” skills are proving that you don’t need a giant budget nor a Hollywood soundstage to create cult classics.
Creature Feature is comprised of four short vignettes and one overall story that connects them all, similar to classics such as Creepshow and Trick 'r Treat.

Have you heard of the 2003 Japanese flick 2Ldk? It's a favorite of mine about two female roommates engaging in a pretty damn epic battle to the death. I mention it because the film seems to have served as the inspiration for one that's just been picked up for distribution...
...the details of which we've got on tap for ya today.
Screen Daily reports that Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment have scooped up the domestic rights to indie thriller 2br/1ba, which is short for '2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom.'
Starring Alexa Vega, Spencer Grammer, and Kathryn Morris, the story follows the lives of two opposite roommates whose differences come to a head over the course of 24 hours in a physical, drag out battle over money, space, and morals.
2br/1ba was produced and directed by Rob Margolies along with producers Tenille Houston, Jon Smith, and Kristen Ruhlin. Check out the trailer below.

With a production as troubled as its star Lindsay Lohan, this un-erotic thriller is best viewed as a ghastly tableaux of the damned
Cinema bows out with both a whimper and a bang in The Canyons, a punch-drunk and jaundiced piece of Hollywood noir that opens with a montage of ruined movie theatres and then proceeds to an orgy up in Beverly Hills. Director Paul Schrader is our guide through the rubble, working from an overwrought script from Bret Easton Ellis. The imperilled cast comes headed by wayward Lindsay Lohan and the smirking, blandly handsome James Deen, a veteran of the porn industry. All of them are going down, stuck together, and their dying fall commands a certain queasy fascination.

Lindsay Lohan may have been a no-show at the Venice Film Festival today, but her Canyons director Paul Schrader isn't exactly missing the drama-plagued actress. Schrader, who made an appearance at the film fest today to promote The Canyons alongside costars James Deen and Tenille Houston and writer Bret Easton Ellis, labeled himself a "free man" now that the film is complete. "For the last 16 months I've been held hostage, by my own choosing, to a very talented but unpredictable actress," Schrader reportedly told the media before the film's premiere. "She was supposed to be here today. She said she would be, but she is not." While it seems Schrader was under the impression...

There are some movies so awesomely bad that their unintentional badness turns into audience happiness. See Sharknado, or most Lifetime Originals. And then there are movies so awesomely sad, that their sadness makes the audience sad by association. See The Canyons.
Hyped as Lindsay Lohan’s comeback and director Paul Schrader’s career savior, with a script penned by Bret Easton Ellis, The Canyons’ fuzzy plotline stars James Deen and La Lohan as an L.A. couple tanning and looking pretty by day and satisfying some kinky sexual appetites by night. Deen plays Christian, a controlling, trust-fund-fueled man-boy forced to...

Los Angeles — Far from the renegade, boundary-pushing, sexually explicit sensation that its makers have been suggesting, "The Canyons" is a lame, one-dimensional and ultimately dreary look at peripheral Hollywood types not worth anyone's time either onscreen or in real life. Skanky side of L.A. expert Bret Easton Ellis employs nothing but melodramatic cliches in relating the manipulative and duplicitous doings of characters altogether interchangeable in their tediousness and lack of distinct personalities, while Paul Schrader had far more to work with in his last foray into scum-bucket Hollywood behavior in the excellent "Auto Focus."
And any expectations of explicit sex fostered by the presence of porn star James Deen and press reports of top-billed Lindsay Lohan getting down for real here are not even approached, much less fulfilled, as there's nothing beyond standard R-rated talk and nudity on hand. It's this sort of non-entertaining, pseudo-arty film that partially is...

Chicago – In January 2013, The New York Times wrote a scathing, fascinating piece about the tumultuous production of Paul Schrader’s “The Canyons.” The narrative was essentially that star Lindsay Lohan was so difficult on set that it derailed the directorial work of the writer of “Taxi Driver” in ways that would make a reality TV producer pull out his check book to buy the footage.
Clearly, Lohan was being set up for the blame. Now that the movie is being released in New York this Friday and available On Demand the same day, the truth can be told –- Lindsay Lohan is Not the problem with “The Canyons.” In fact, she’s arguably the only interesting thing about this train wreck, a film so vapid and worthless that it’s clear that, no matter what the troubled Ms. Lohan did on-set, there was no saving it.

The new trailer for The Canyons, starring Lindsay Lohan has arrived. This may have worked in Robert Rodriguez' Grindhouse, but here, it's just nauseating to watch. I know what they're going for, but when you see this effect applied over modern-day environment, it just doesn't sit right. The thriller directed by Paul Schrader, known for The Walker, Affliction, Touch and classics like American Gigolo and Patty Hearst, also includes Nolan Gerard Funk, Gus Van Sant, James Deen, Amanda Brooks, Tenille Houston, Lauren Shacher and Jarod Einsohn. Brett Easton Ellis (The Informers) scripts with a story focusing on youth, glamor and sex in Los Angeles, circa 2012. This is a teaser, so hopefully the next trailer will be better than what we've seen.
