As random and arbitrary as Netflix's Top 10 can appear, it starts to become more predictable upon closer inspection. Like the media rental stores of ancient times (which were essentially the streaming services of their epoch), new Netflix originals inevitably rank high before dwindling off in the same way that Blockbusters would initially stock their shelves with roughly 10,000 copies of the latest tentpole. Along those same lines, viewers frequently play catchup right before a show returns by marathoning its previous season(s), which is how a cult Syfy comedy series like "Resident Alien" ends up charting seemingly out of the blue.
Then there are the under-the-radar titles that find their way onto Netflix only to be discovered anew by its users, much like a customer perusing the aisles of their local video rental shop and stumbling upon some previously ignored movie featuring one of their favorite actors. So it is...

“You’re not even a person till you’re 30,” says a friend to Solène Marchand (Anne Hathaway), a single woman celebrating her 40th birthday. “Then you spend the next 10 years figuring out what kind of person you want to be.” In The Idea of You, adapted from the Robinne Lee romance novel that was ostensibly based on fan fiction about erstwhile One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles, age is only a problem insomuch as other people make it one, rooting its romantic complications in the somehow still revolutionary idea that people (and women specifically) grow and bloom throughout every phase of life.
Solène is a Los Angeles art gallery owner still nursing wounds from her not-so-recent divorce while doing her best to amicably co-parent her teenage daughter, Izzy (Ella Rubin), with her ex-husband, Daniel (Reid Scott), whose cheating ways led to their separation. When Daniel has a sudden work emergency, Solène...

In Michael Showalter’s The Idea of You, based on the novel by Robinne Lee, Amazon MGM Studios brings to the screen a narrative that tantalizes with the prospect of exploring the complexities of love, age disparity and the pursuit of happiness in the digital age. Anchored by Anne Hathaway’s Solene, a single mother and art gallery owner, and Nicholas Galitzine’s Hayes Campbell, a young pop star from the fictional band August Moon, the film sets its sights on charting the course of an unconventional romance, but the script muddles it all up to produce a somewhat funny, somewhat entertaining, albeit overly long romantic comedy.
Solene is a Californian art gallery owner and single mother who had initially planned a solo camping trip. However, her plans are rerouted when she assumes the responsibility of taking her daughter Izzy (Ella Rubin) to Coachella, after Izzy’s father, Daniel (Reid Scott...

Combat veterans, famously, don’t tend to talk much, if at all, about their experiences of war. At least not to civilians, and maybe not even to their closest relatives. Knowing this, those of us who aren’t veterans tend to have ideas about the things they aren’t discussing. Things like violence and fear and the chaos and insanity of battle. That’s surely a part of it, but in a way it’s also the heightened cinematic version, the one we’ve all gotten from war movies. What it leaves out are the torn-up emotions of soldiers, the lifelong imprint left upon them not just by the cataclysm of war but by their relationship with their fellow soldiers — the loyalty and love, the complex code of liberation and guilt at having survived.
“Mending the Line” is a drama about two veterans and their relationship to the combat experience,...

Two from Magnolia Pictures, the story of an iconic record album design firm back and a sighting of Brian Cox usher in a specialty weekend with smoke clearing over New York City. "If you're gonna fish, don't do it alone." Blue Fox Ent. has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled Mending the Line, directed by Joshua Caldwell. This premiered at a few festivals in 2022, and is opening this summer. Mending the Line is a story about finding something to make living worthwhile. John Cotler, a wounded veteran, returns home still carrying the demons of war, hauntingly disturbed by the everyday expectations of friendships and love interests. In Livingston, Montana, he meets Ike, a surly, headstrong fly-fisherman more than twice his age, and Lucy, a talented photographer turned librarian who reads aloud to veterans, both struggling in their own way. Colter wants only to re-enlist, to have something to die for. But the real challenge is finding something to live for. Brian Cox stars with Sinqua Walls, Perry Mattfeld, Chris Galust, Patricia Heaton, & Wes Studi. This looks better than it sounds,...

Exclusive: Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired North America rights to the indie drama Mending the Line, starring Golden Globe winner Brian Cox (Succession) and Sinqua Walls (White Men Can’t Jump), slating it for release in theaters nationwide on June 9th.
The story follows Colter (Walls), a marine who has just returned home after being wounded in Afghanistan on his last patrol. His doctor (Patricia Heaton) at the Va hospital introduces him to a Vietnam War veteran (Cox) who has been treated at the facility for decades and teaches him to fly fish, hoping it will help the young man deal with his physical and emotional trauma.
Mending the Line opened the 2022 Woodstock Film Festival and later played the San Diego Film Festival, where it won the Valor Award, given to a military-themed film that conveys the impact of war while unfolding the emotional layers and the human condition of fighting a war.

I don't know what to say.
What was that? No, but seriously, what was it?
This formerly great series ended abruptly withIn The Dark Season 4 Episode 13. It genuinely pains me to my core to say that it was unequivocally one of the worst finales I've ever witnessed.
In the Dark has always been a series that has dabbled into so many different realms that it never knew fully what it wanted to be. And the cabin sequence of events felt like something pulled from a two-bit horror flick.
It genuinely sucks to see this series fizzle away into this. In hindsight, the longer the season progressed, the easier it was to accept that the series had to end.
After a finale like that, I don't know if this series had any more gas in the tank to pull off another season that would be remotely watchable. The series had already...

Oh, he's gone. Oh, I know. Everybody cried real tears, even when we were filming that. It was a very emotional goodbye.

Buying your first home can be daunting to say the least. In addition to worrying about how much your new home is going to cost, you also wonder what your new neighbors will be like and if your kids will be able to make friends in the neighborhood. You might also want to make sure your new house doesn’t have a bizarre, murderous history, just to be safe.
These are some of the things Adam, played by Ryan Hansen, and Margo, played by Melissa Tang (The Kominsky Method), are faced with when they move into their first home in the horror comedy Who Invited Them. Written and directed by Duncan Birmingham in his feature film debut, Who Invited Them agilely alternates between being unnerving and hilarious, thanks to witty writing and a remarkably entertaining cast.

It seems that it's never in the cards for Murphy Mason to have a happy ending.
After all of the ups and downs throughout the series, especially this season, the Murphy and Max romance came to an utterly tragic end during In The Dark Season 4 Episode 12 when Max died protecting Murphy.
If that was the penultimate episode of the season, one can't even fathom what the series finale will entail!
The only satisfactory end for a character like Josh is death. It's actually incredible that he's somehow managed to surpass Dean as the most loathsome character; Dean, the dirty cop, working with a ruthless drug dealer who murdered an unarmed Black teenager in cold blood and covered it up.
How does one manage to be more detestable than that dude?
Josh's absolutely insane and unhinged obsession with destroying Murphy has reached a point where it's so irritating it has somehow become comical,...
