Founded in 2012, Paris-based WTFilms, run by Gregory Chambet and Dimitri Stephanides, has built a strong reputation as a sales agent for break-out genre pics and has recently diversified into production, to access hit projects. As competition ramps up for more ambitious projects with strong theatrical potential, Chambet decided to move to Los Angeles in mid-2023, while Stephanides remains based in Paris.
“At WTFilms, we aim to continue to work on both sides of the Atlantic,” explains Chambet. “In the current market it’s important to invest in projects by talented directors, with innovative concepts, budgeted above $5 million. It makes sense for me to be based here because we work a lot with partners here and L.A. is a key talent hub. We’re on the lookout for talent from all around the world. There are really exciting genre directors popping up everywhere – in North America and also in Latin America and Asia.

Over the past 12 months, Paris-based sales agent WTFilms has produced two features: “Perpetrator,” by Jennifer Reeder (“Knives and Skin”), which will world premiere in the Panorama section at Berlin Film Festival, and Xavier Gens’ thriller “Farang,” which is co-financed and repped by Studiocanal.

Mediawan is joining forces with French producer Noor Sadar and Belgian banner Entre Chien et Loups to launch Black Swan Tales, a production vehicle dedicated to low-budget, high-concept genre films in the mold of Blumhouse. Paris-based sales company WTFilms, whose Cannes slate includes Quentin Dupieux’s “Deerskin,” the opening movie of Directors’ Fortnight, is also partnering up with Black Swan Tales and will be representing all of the banner’s films in international markets.
Black Swan Tales will aim to produce four films per year budgeted below 1 million euros ($1.1 million), mainly English-language projects.
Sadar already successfully runs his production banner French Kiss, which is owned by Mediawan. It produced Netflix’s first French film original, “Je ne suis pas un homme facile.”

WTFilms, the sales company behind Quentin Dupieux’s Jean Dujardin-starrer “Deerskin,” which is opening Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, has boarded “Escobar by Escobar,” a documentary series about drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.
Pascal Richter will direct the four-part series, which is based on “Pablo Escobar: My Father” by Juan Pablo Escobar, who reflects on his father’s legacy. He became the man to kill when his father died in 1993, and spent his life looking over his shoulder after inheriting $30 billion.
“There have been countless films about Pablo Escobar, but with this documentary series we’re tackling an angle which has rarely been dealt with, shedding light on the aftermath of Escobar’s death and the consequences on the lives of his close ones,” said WTFilms co-founder Dimitri Stephanides.
Victor Robert, a well-seasoned French TV host and journalist, is producing the documentary series through his Paris-based company 10.7 Production and optioned the book.

Guillermo del Toro didn’t need a snazzy trailer, a visually arresting poster, or an A-list actor to sell buyers at Cannes on “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.”
In lieu of extra bells, whistles, or shrieking, Bernard Hermann-style violins, del Toro took the stage at the Carlton Hotel armed with his passion for the blood-soaked genre. For roughly an hour, del Toro and director André Øvredal talked for 45 minutes about their vision for “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” while dipping into their deep connection to films about monsters, ghosts, and otherworldly elements.
“The presentation he did wasn’t a bunch of dazzle dazzle and movie stars,” said Nick Meyer, CEO of Sierra/Affinity, the sales company hawking foreign rights to the picture. “It was two artists talking about what makes this genre global. It was a master class.”
