[Warning: The following post contains discussions of sexual assault.] Delainey Hayles‘ Claudia revealed harrowing details about her time away from Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid) in Interview With the Vampire Season 2 Episode 3, “No Pain.” In “No Pain,” Claudia briefly reveals dark truths about what she endured while held captive by the vampire Bruce (Damon Daunno) years prior. She and Louis have been telling the coven that Bruce was their maker, not Lestat, and that he killed himself in front of them, prompting their journey to Europe to find more bloodsuckers. She revealed physical attributes that only she could know to Louis to help keep their story straight, and she eventually detailed the more horrific abuse she suffered at the vampire’s hands. Hayles tells TV Insider that this is Claudia desperately seeking connection with Louis. “She is in a way begging him to ask her more about herself because he never really does that,” she says. Interview with the Vampire Episode 5
Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire’s “A Vile Hunger for Your Hammering Heart,” is a pivotal episode. The dysfunctional family unit of Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid), Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), and Claudia (Bailey Bass) pushes past the breaking point several times. In normal families, the kid grows up and moves on. That’s a sticky point for vampires.
Throughout his conversation with journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), Louis digs his fingernail into the hardwood tabletop in front of him. As the questions take an accusatory stance, the vampire carves quite a dent in the wood. It is a small detail, meant to subtly show the preternatural talents in Louis’ talons, but it also scratches the surface of the façade of sanguinarian etiquette. It may not be in the book Bruce (Damon Daunno) keeps suggesting,...

"I don't want to be some experiment before you settle down." Vertical Ent. has released the official trailer for a romantic comedy film titled The Hating Game, adapted from the best-selling book of the same name from author Sally Thorne. The book is described as "a hilarious and sexy workplace comedy all about that thin, fine line between hate and love." Resolving to achieve professional success without compromising her ethics, Lucy embarks on a ruthless game of one-upmanship against cold and efficient nemesis Joshua, a rivalry that is complicated by her growing attraction to him. Lucy Hale stars in this as Lucy, with Austin Stowell as her nemesis, plus Damon Daunno, Yasha Jackson, Sean Cullen, Sakina Jaffrey, and Corbin Bernsen. The first thing about this trailer is that: he's so tall, and she's so small compared to him! Look at them! But the rest seems like cliche forbidden-love + don't-judge-the-book-by-its-cover storytelling.

The Grammys took a fairly expansive sweep with this morning’s nominations for Best Musical Theater Album, The Motown sound, Rodgers & Hammerstein, the folk-rock music of Anaïs Mitchell, the reworked radio hits of Moulin Rouge! and Imogen Heap’s Harry Potter musical suites were all represented.
But four of the five nominations did not include composers, since the music was not original to the cast albums. In the case of several, the musical numbers consist largely of oldies, some reworked for contemporary settings. Anaïs Mitchell’s previous concept album for Hadestown was already Grammy-nominated upon its release in 2010.
The nominees:
Ain’t Too Proud: The Life And Times Of The Temptations is a rousing recreation of the Motown sound, focusing largely, but not exclusively, on the title group’s hits. Nominated were original cast members Saint Aubyn, Derrick Baskin, James Harkness, Jawan M. Jackson, Jeremy Pope and Ephraim Sykes and...

Meanwhile, Jez Butterworth’s Irish-set drama “The Ferryman” earned four awards, including Best Play as well as one for director Sam Mendes.
“Glee” alum Ali Stroker made history as the first actor in a wheelchair to win the Tony Award, for her turn as the flirty Ado Annie in the Best Musical Revival winner “Oklahoma!” “This award is for every kid who has a disability, a limitation or a challenge who has been waiting to see themselves represented in this arena,” she said just minutes after belting out “I Cain’t Say No” from the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic.

While the Drama Desk Awards nominate a slew of off-Broadway fare, the winners invariably come from Broadway. That was once again the case on Sunday when all but one of the 16 champs in the musical races were Broadway productions while it was 8 of 12 on the play side.

One of its main rivals for Best Musical at the Tony Awards is “Tootsie,” which claimed victories for Best Actor (Santino Fontana), Book, Music, and Lyrics. But it was another contender, “The Prom,” that swooped in and claimed Best Musical despite losing all of its other bids.

Two new musicals – “Hadestown” and “Ain’t Too Proud” — lead the Tony Awards nominations with 14 and 12 bids respectively. Not surprisingly, they are the frontrunners for Best Musical. Among new plays, the British import “The Ferryman” and Aaron Sorkin‘s adaptation of Harper Lee‘s classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” earned nine nominations each but the latter was snubbed for the top prize. (See the full list of Tony Awards nominees.)
“Hadestown” numbers four performances among its nominations: a star-making turn by Eva Noblezada and scene-stealing work from Andre De Shields, Amber Gray and Patrick Page. Santino Fontana is the frontrunner to win Best Actor (Musical) for tackling the role made famous by Dustin Hoffman in “Tootsie.” Two featured players from that charmer — Lilli Cooper and Andy Grotelueschen — also reaped Tonys bids.

Refresh for updates The lush, very-downtown musical Hadestown topped the Tony Awards nominations list with 14, with the more traditional jukebox musical Ain’t Too Proud coming in at second with 12, a one-two punch as clear a sign as any that Tony voters are in a very expansive mood this year.
At #3, Tootsie has 11 nominations; The Ferryman 9 and Beetlejuice 8.
But the big surprise were the no-votes in the Best Play category for both To Kill A Mockingbird and Network, particularly for Aaron Sorkin’s gloriously reviewed and wildly popular adaptation of Harper Lee’s novel. That omission might be the single biggest Tony snub in years, if not decades.
Deadline will examine that omission and other surprises in a complete analysis of the Tony nominations by Deadline theater critic Greg Evans, coming shortly. Check back soon.

Daniel Fish’s wildly re-imagined revival of Oklahoma! leads New York’s Drama Desk Awards nominations with 12, including Revival of a Musical. No big surprise there — but the head-scratcher came in the Best Play category: To Kill a Mockingbird, one of the best reviewed productions of the season and a box office smash, was snubbed. See the full list below.
Unlike the Tony Awards, though, the Drama Desk Awards cover both Broadway and Off Broadway, significantly lessening the nominations’ prediction factor. Mockingbird almost certainly will be among the nominees when the Broadway-only Tony roster is announced Tuesday.

“She doesn’t say the most and she’s not the loudest, but we get to sit with her thoughts a lot,” admits actress Rebecca Naomi Jones of her character Laurey in “Oklahoma!” The current Broadway revival of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic radically strips down the material and forces audiences to listen to the score in a new way. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Director Daniel Fish stages this production within a minimalist setting of a community hall, where performances are laid bare and the text becomes the star. “What Daniel wants to get at is the truth at all times,” says Jones. That doesn’t mean there are any tweaks to the book or lyrics. Instead, Jones describes it as a reexamination of the test, “and falling in love with it in a different way.”

Who knows if Harper Lee had Oklahoma! on her mind when she came up with the fate that befalls To Kill A Mockingbird‘s villainous Bob Ewell, but after seeing Daniel Fish’s astonishing reimagining of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic musical, opening tonight on Broadway at Circle in the Square, we’d all be wise to assume nothing.
Ewell, you’ll remember from the novel, the book and Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation, gets his comeuppance when the reclusive Boo Radley, saving the lives of young Jem and Scout, plunges a kitchen knife into their attacker’s ribcage. Atticus and the sheriff decide fair’s fair – Bob Ewell, they’ll tell everyone, fell on his own knife.
In the original Oklahoma!, the no-account brute Jud Fry meets a similar fate. No more. In Fish’s telling, Poor Jud dies at gun point, in blood more or less cold, and the...

Director Daniel Fish’s acclaimed headed-to-Broadway production of Oklahoma! will arrive at the Circle in the Square Theatre with its much-praised Off Broadway cast largely intact, producer Eva Price announced today.
“I am delighted to welcome this incredible cast to Broadway,” Price said in a statement. “This is a group of performers rich with talent and humility. Individually, they bring incredible depth and authenticity to these iconic characters. Together, they form an ensemble that is full of humanity, spirit and inspiration.”
Though it does not boast superstar marquee names, the production found its way to numerous best-of-the-year lists following its sold out run at Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse performance space last fall. Previews for the previously announced transfer to Broadway begin Tuesday, March 19, with an official opening on Sunday, April 7. The limited engagement runs through Sunday, September 1.

The acclaimed production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! that sold out Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse this fall will transfer to Broadway in March, producer Eva Price announced today.
The announcement immediately upends any Tony Award predictions – the St. Ann’s limited-run Off Broadway production was praised by critics and the Broadway staging will almost certainly be an awards contender.
Directed by Daniel Fish, Oklahoma! will begin previews at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, with an official opening on Sunday, April 7. The limited engagement will run through Sunday, Sept. 1.
“What an incredible moment to be producing on Broadway, in the middle of this wonderfully eclectic season spurred by an audience that is hungry for bold, daring work,” Price said. “Daniel Fish’s timeless and timely revival of this classic speaks so vividly to the place we as Americans are living in today.”

Winners of the 63rd annual Drama Desk Awards were revealed on June 3 during a ceremony at the Town Hall in midtown Manhattan that was hosted once again by Michael Urie. As with the Outer Critics Circle Awards, these kudos also consider both Broadway and off-Broadway fare. To that end, the Broadway production of “The Band’s Visit” was ineligible, save for its sound design which was deemed to be new and won with these voters.
