Just last month, Ender's Game and True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld had joined Universal's adaptation of Term Life starring Vince Vaughn. The crime drama is based on a graphic novel by A.J. Lieberman and Nick Thornborrow. and had Peter Billingsley attached to direct the film. However, Deadline reports Universal Pictures has pulled the plug on the film early. It seems like this might have something to do with the exit of Adam Fogelson and Donna Langley taking over at the studio (not to mention the shake up at Focus Features), but supposedly the film just didn't come together as they hoped, despite the new casting. ›››

He must survive for 21 days before a million-dollar life insurance policy comes into effect for the benefit of his estranged daughter.
According to Deadline, sources have denied that the cancellation was due to the recent executive shake-up at the studio.

Apparently if you need a young actress for a teenage role in a movie that involves killers, hitmen, or Government assassins, just check to see if “True Grit’s” Hailee Steinfeld is available. The little lass, who will go into outer space in “Ender’s Game” later this year, has signed on for yet another movie involving men with guns — this time the action-comedy “Term Life” with Vince Vaughn. And yes, we know it’s an action-comedy because, well, it’s got Vince Vaughn as its lead. Based on the Image comic book by A.J. Lieberman and Nick Thornborrow, “Term Life” would find Vaughn (who is also producing) playing “a low-life whom everybody — including mob bosses, contract killers and dirty cops — wants dead. In a rare act of selflessness (and desperation), the man takes out a million-dollar term life insurance policy to benefit his estranged daughter, but soon after, he...

The terms “Vince Vaughn” and “action thriller” don’t exactly gel, but expect that to change in the near future. The Wrap reports that the Vaughn-starring action thriller Term Life (nope, still doesn’t sound right) has just added another name to its cast- Hailee Steinfeld. Term Life is based off a graphic novel of the same name by A.J. Lieberman (who’s also written the screenplay) and Nick Thornborrow. It follows Nick Barrow (Vaughn), a heist mastermind who’s marked for death by all manner of criminals- mobsters, crooked cops and hit men- and takes out a life insurance policy on himself to benefit his daughter (Steinfeld). But the policy doesn’t go into effect for 21 days, meaning Nick’s got to stay alive just long enough for the insurance to kick in. Having already starred in True Grit, Steinfeld has proved more than capable of playing a young woman forced to shepherd an unreliable, occasionally-incompetent...
