Stuart McBratney’s Don’t Read This On a Plane, which had its world premiere and won the Audience Award at the just-wrapped Dances With Films, has been acquired by Gravitas Ventures. The dramatic comedy is getting a digital release in the U.S. beginning Tuesday.

‘Antebellum’ Leads Weekly Streaming Lists
Janelle Monae horror thriller “Antebellum” has topped the the lists of the week’s movies streaming on Fandango’s streaming services Vudu and FandangoNOW.
Lionsgate decided in early August to ditch a domestic theatrical release for “Antebellum” amid an uncertain outlook for launching movies at brick-and-mortar theaters due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The movie, directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, had originally been set for an April 24 release that was delayed several times amid the outbreak.
Monae portrays a successful modern-day author who finds herself trapped during the era of American slavery and must find a way to escape from the horrifying reality. The cast includes Eric Lange, Jena Malone, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons and Gabourey Sidibe.

A wise woman named Sheryl Crow once said, “a change will do you good.” For Irene, a pretty 23-year old-ish artistically inclined misfit, it’s as simple as a haircut.
A scathing critique of the modeling industry as a search for belonging and friendship turns into an absurd and at times cringe-inducing comedy, Chemical Cut is a fresh feature written, directed, edited and staring Marjorie Conrad, a former contestant on America’s Top Model. Parodying a world where artists and models are expected to work for free — often in uncomfortable, morally compromising positions for a “resume item” — the parody emerges into a disturbing psychological drama as Irene is pushed to the brink.
We meet Irene as she works full time in a Los Angeles boutique. She spends her evenings hanging out with her Gbf Arthur (Ian Coster), an aspiring novelist who ultimately decides to travel abroad for his Mfa. Growing...

Read More: Slamdance Film Festival Announces 2016 Competition Lineup The upcoming approach of the Sundance Film Festival also means the subsequent arrival of the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival, which will be taking place from January 22-28. Slamdance has devoted itself to showcasing the work of several first-time filmmakers, and "Chemical Cut" is no exception. The debut of director-writer-star Marjorie Conrad, a former "America's Next Top Model" contestant, "Chemical Cut" turns her vast experience in the modeling industry into a surreal dark comedy. Conrad plays Irene, a 23-year-old misfit who hopes that a newfound modeling career will save her from a dead-end life in retail. However, she is soon disillusioned by the absurdity, eccentricity and fragile egos of her profession. Irene's career and life continue to crumble around her until an encounter with an unknown performer (played by the late San Francisco drag icon Vicki Marlane) sparks her...

In our annual Visibility Awards, we formally recognize the people who have positively or negatively impacted lesbian and bi visibility in American entertainment during the year. (See previous years here: 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004).
From Best Movie to Worst Song to Lesbian/Bi Woman of the Year, these awards recognize the television shows, movies, music, books and people who entertained, inspired, or disappointed us in 2008.
In previous years, the winners have been editorially chosen by the AfterEllen.com staff (note: winners do not necessarily represent any individual staff member's preference). This year, we opened up some of the categories for nominations, posted the finalists, and thousands of you voted. We've designated those categories with this symbol:
We've also included more international people, shows and movies this year, a reflection of the increasing awareness of lesbian and bisexual visibility around the world made possible by the internet.

First off, allow me to apologize for the extreme tardiness of this review. Please know that I was not shirking my most sacred Antm watching-then-writing duties. On Wednesday night, my DVR chose to commit suicide rather than tape the new episode, leaving me twitching and shaking and searching the shadiest corners of the Internet (well, YouTube) looking for a hit of Baby Topanga, McWig, Samanthduh (Get it?), and twitchy, shaky Marjorie. Unfortunately, until last night all I could find were clips of some of the girls on Big Bang Theory. But today, someone finally posted the episode to YouTube, sparing me the humiliation of watching the re-broadcast tonight on the CW. (I win after all, Tyra.) So here we are. I promise it won't happen next week when either Baby Topanga (probably) or McWig (long-shot) wins. I'm doubly sorry because this week's episode was a...

Since the debut of America's Next Top Model in 2003, women of all sexualities have been included as part of the televised reality contest. Cycle 1's Ebony Haith had the pleasure of being the first out contestant, who dealt with some homophobia from her housemates when she wanted her girlfriend to visit. She was followed by Cycle 4's Michelle Deighton, who came out as a bisexual, open lesbian Kim Stolz on Cycle 5, and Cycle 7's Michelle Babin, who struggled with her sexuality while on the show.
By the time 18-year-old Elina Ivanova was cast as a competitor on the current cycle of Top Model, she had the pleasure of being known for her modeling ability instead of being known as "the lesbian." In fact, it seemed very much a non-issue in the editing of the cycle, which touched less on Elina's sexuality than on her crush on her fellow contestant,...

The six remaining models of "America's Next Top Model" will have a wonderful as well as astonishing journey to Europe. Once again, Analeigh Tipton, Elina Ivanova, Marjorie Conrad, Brittany "McKey" Sullivan, Samantha Potter, and Sheena Sakai will compete on the next episode entitled "Planes, Trains and Slow Automobiles".
The episode will show how the ladies pack their bags and head overseas to their European destination. Soon after they arrive in the foreign land, they must browse the city around to find the exact location of their temporary place to live during the rest of the competition.
Shortly after finding their new 'home', three models feel jet lag and decide to take a bath together in order to fight it. This episode challenges the ladies to model clothing in storefront windows in a famous section of the town. Then the judges finally decide who will be the next model to be sent home.

"America's Next Top Model" next week episode will be surprising. With the title "Now You See Me, Now You Don't", the ladies pull a disappearing act for this week's challenge. Based on the clip, it can be seen that there is a person who shows up with a full dress and covered by green fabric. This kind of stimulation has the function to show the models a wonderful breakthrough for making a different appearance on television. The green fabric will only make visible the dress but not the models.
Next week in "Top Model" tradition, seven remaining girls (Marjorie, Sheena, Elina, Samantha, Analeigh, Joslyn, and McKey) test their on-camera talents when they shoot their "CoverGirl" commercial with the help of cycle 10 winner, Whitney Thompson. During judging, Tyra Banks will reveal this cycle's overseas destination and one model will be sent home.

I love the title of this, the makeover episode, because it hints at Tyra's major motivations for these and all ANTM makeovers: Either she's being passive aggressive about the girls' beauty ("No, you look great...we're just gonna change your whole look."), or she wants them to become less beautiful. This cycle/season it was a bit of both, and anyone left over simply received a perfunctory weave. Falling into the first, passive-aggressive makeover category were Hannah Alaskah, Marjorie, Sheena, and Samantha. Hannah Alaskah's limp, mousey (or caribou-y?) locks were chopped into a nondescript bob with bangs which made her look like a 9-year-old, turn-of-the-century newsie. Just give her a cap, a few paps, and a time machine, and she'll be yelling "Extra! Extra!" with the best of them. Still, considering that her former look was just 9-year-old, this is a vast improvement. Speaking of street...
