- Kel was discovered as a teen by Hollywood icon Will Smith, The Brooklyn native signed to Overbrook Entertainment/ Interscope Records and was first featured on The Wild Wild West Soundtrack along side Tatyana Ali & Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora in 1999. He later went on to co-write hits with the likes of Wyclef Jean, Nick Cannon, Rodney (Darkchild) Jerkins, Mary J. Blige and Will Smith himself, including co-writing the 2005 Switch which won an American Music Award for Best Male Artist. In 2007, Kel gained international appeal with his 5 episode in-studio web series, What Had Happened Was, in which he wrote, produced, directed and starred.
Kel is one of the few artists to serve as a multi-platinum songwriter and producer prior to releasing his own album. Kel was also named as a 2008 "Best Lyricist" nominee at the Underground Music Awards, the 2008 "Best Cameo" award winner at the Unsigned N Indie Music Awards. In 2009, Kel landed a song as part of the score on associate, Jada Pinkett-Smith's Hawthorne Series on TNT and co-wrote lyrics for a Pepsi UK advertisement, which began airing in 2010. As an actor, Kel has recently taken on both Tasha Smith and Aaron Speiser as teachers and technique coaches and has garnered roles and writing/directing credits in several indie films, web-series, theatre productions, and has been carving a lane in the voice over arena.
Growing up in Brooklyn, under two New York City educators, Kel was groomed in academics, creativity, and athletics. Receiving All-Star honors as high school Quarterback, Kel went on to the Earl G. - Graduated as salutatorian of his elementary school (P.S. 183) in Brooklyn, while Omar Epps' mom (Bonnie Epps) was principal.
- He began College (Morgan State University) at 16 years old as a result of skipping the 8th grade and going from the 7th to 9th grade.
