Exclusive: Michael MacMillan retired from the world of television 17 years ago. Except, he didn’t.
The Canadian film and TV producer and business exec had made his name as CEO and Chairman of Alliance Atlantis, the company that built the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation franchise into a worldwide phenomenon, before its broadcast unit was sold off in 2007 to Canwest Communications and Goldman Sachs — making a lot of cash and taking a well-earned early retirement.
However, just four years later, he was back to do it all again.
MacMillan launched Blue Ant Media in 2011, originally as a Canadian channel operator, much the same as Alliance Atlantis had operated. However, just like his previous company, network ownership was only a means to an end — owning content was always the real play.
In the 13 years that have followed, Blue Ant has transformed from a channel operator to a content company playing in the international rights ownership game,...

When Barbara Walters interviewed Monica Lewinsky for that special episode of 20/20 back in 1999, a total of 74 million Americans tuned in to ABC to watch.
Seventy four million. That was one quarter of the entire U.S. population at the time. The interview averaged a 48 share, meaning that nearly half of all TV sets in use at the time were watching Walters.
By now much has been written about Walters’ groundbreaking career at NBC and ABC, in the mornings on Today and in the evenings on the ABC Evening News. She changed how TV news anchors were paid (today’s 8-figure deals would not exist had Walters not paved the way) and transformed daytime TV with The View.
But the news anchor, who died Friday at the age of 93, also fundamentally changed a core piece of the TV journalism repertoire: The interview.

When Alexandra Dean signed on to direct “Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies” for Peacock, she had high hopes that the series would help people understand the Casey Anthony murder case, which Time magazine previously dubbed the social media trial of the century, in a new light.
Anthony, now 36, was found not guilty of murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee during a 2011 trial that captivated the country. Anthony was charged with her daughter’s murder in 2008.
“My biggest hope for the series is that it provokes really profound conversations around how people like Casey are portrayed by the media,” Dean told Variety. “I hope it makes people think more critically about where they’re getting their information. If it’s from an outlet that covers a court case from one side and doesn’t want to hear from anyone not on their side, then they don’t have the full story.

Whoopi Goldberg had some pointed words for Justice Samuel Alito during Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” questioning why he’s still sitting on the Supreme Court, after making a quip in a recent case about a hypothetical scenario in which a Black man playing Santa Claus had to encounter a child wearing a Ku Klux Klan uniform.
The topic came as the women were discussing the case of a graphic designer in Colorado, who has revealed that she plans to refuse to work on same-sex weddings — no one has asked her to yet — because she feels it violates her religious and artistic freedom. The case is currently being tried before the Supreme Court, with arguments beginning on Monday.
For the most part, Whoopi disagreed with the woman’s stance, saying that she doesn’t have to believe in gay marriage personally, but she shouldn’t get the right to refuse others because of it.

Things got a bit tense on “The View” on Monday, as hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro exchanged a few barbed comments about their work environments.
The conversation came late in Hot Topics, as the women discussed if the idea of “toxic femininity” is real, and something they’ve experienced in life. And for the most part, the hosts noted that they had, particularly in a work environment, but they all agreed that women should be supporting each other professionally.
“I think that women have made a ton of progress, but we can also be each other’s worst enemies. It’s still the case,” Alyssa Farah Griffin said. “And I hate to say it; some of the worst bosses I’ve had have been women, and sometimes colleagues in the workplace who were women. And I always think of the Madeline Albright quote….”

The hosts of “The View” were a bit confused by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex this week, after a trailer dropped for Harry and Meghan’s new documentary on Netflix. For the women at the table, the new project seems to fly in the face of the royals’ original request for privacy.
In discussing the documentary during their Hot Topics segment, the women of “The View” first questioned the timing of the trailer’s release, considering it happened while Prince William and Kate Middleton were visiting the U.S. on business. While the hosts agreed that Harry and Meghan likely didn’t have any direct say on when the trailer dropped, the women also argued that it was “smart marketing.”

The syndicated daytime talk show landscape has seen some big changes since the ending of shows from veterans Ellen DeGeneres and Wendy Williams earlier this year.
And among the new shows that have launched this fall, there’s a clear winner: Debmar-Mercury’s “Sherri” starring former “View” co-host Sherri Shepherd.
Shepherd’s syndicated talker, which took over most of the time slots occupied by “The Wendy Williams Show” (on which she was a frequent guest host last season) is sitting above the rookie pack with a 0.7 season-to-date household rating, representing about 1 million viewers a day, according to Nielsen Media. In the all-important demo of women aged 25-54, it’s notching a 0.4.

A new docuseries surrounding the case of Casey Anthony premiered on Peacock this week, and audiences aren’t too pleased that it was even greenlit. And it seems those audiences include the hosts of “The View.”
During Thursday’s show, the women touched on the new three-part docuseries, which premiered on Peacock on Nov. 29, questioning whether it was the right move to put Anthony back in the spotlight.
Host Ana Navarro noted that she had no plans to watch the docuseries, calling it “incredibly offensive” to give Anthony a new platform.
“I can’t stand this woman. I can’t stand to see her face, I can’t stand to hear her voice,” Navarro said. “You know, if people want to watch that, that’s up to them. If I’m gonna watch a documentary, it’ll be about whales, and lemmings, and iguanas in the Galapagos Islands. I think it’s incredibly offensive.

Former prosecutor and TV news host Nancy Grace, who extensively covered Casey Anthony’s trial in 2011, has responded to the latest claims made in Peacock‘s new three-part docuseries Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies. The documentary is told from Anthony’s perspective as she talks through the infamous 2008 investigation, which saw her accused of killing her two-year-old daughter Caylee, whose remains were found near the family home in December 2008. Anthony, who originally claimed Caylee drowned in the pool, denied the murder charges and was found not guilty of first-degree murder in 2011. In the series, Anthony explains why she took 31 days to 911, claiming that she was following the directive of her father, George, who she alleges sexually abused her from ages 8 to 11. Her father has denied the abuse claims and has never been charged. Anthony also claims that George staged her daughter’s drowning to cover up his possible abuse of Caylee.

For eight weeks in the summer of 2011, the world was glued to the “social media trial of the century.” Facing the death penalty was Casey Anthony, then 25, accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, and dumping the body in a wooded area near her parents’ home in Orlando, Florida.
The circumstantial evidence against her was compelling — including a 911 call made by her mother in which she described the smell of a decomposing body in Anthony’s car — but Anthony was found not guilty of murdering her daughter.
She was sentenced to four years, one year for each lie she told police; with three years time served, she had only 10 days left in custody before walking free.

Casey Anthony is telling her side of the story for the first time. In the documentary "Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies," which premieres on Peacock on Nov. 29, Anthony revisits the infamous case surrounding the death of her daughter Caylee and reveals new details about what she alleges happened.
On July 15, 2008, Caylee's grandmother called 911 and reported that she hadn't seen her granddaughter for 31 days. Anthony initially lied to detectives during the subsequent investigation and claimed Caylee had been kidnapped by a nanny. She was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder, though she was eventually found not guilty on that charge.

Casey Anthony is telling her side of the story in a new documentary, Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies, that will air on Peacock November 29.
This will be the first time since the 2008 disappearance of her daughter, Caylee Anthony, that Casey will sit down for an interview. She did not even testify during the 2011 trial where she was found not guilty of first-degree murder after six weeks of proceedings.
Casey was found guilty, however, of four misdemeanor counts for providing false information to investigators and ultimately served prison time.
“I lied,” Casey said in the documentary’s official trailer. “But no one asked why.”
Casey is rumored to place the blame for Caylee’s death on her father, saying he staged her drowning and covered up the death because he might have been abusing the 2-year-old girl.
In 2017, the judge who presided over Casey’s trial told Hln Casey probably killed her daughter by accident.

Since she was accused of murdering her daughter in 2011, Casey Anthony has remained a tabloid-cover staple for more than a decade. Now she's speaking out and telling her side of the story in a Peacock documentary titled "Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies." On Nov. 15, the official trailer was released, and in it, Anthony speaks her first on-camera sentence: "Why did I wait 31 days to call 911?"
Anthony's 2-year-old daughter Caylee was reported missing by her grandmother on July 15, 2008, and was later found dead in the woods near their family home, per The New York Times. Photos of her partying in the weeks following Caylee's death emerged, and she was soon charged with murder, manslaughter, and child abuse. However, her defense team later argued that Caylee had drowned in a pool and Casey had failed to report her death for fear of a murder charge, and Anthony was found not guilty.

It was the trial watched around the world. Few televised trials have had as much press and interest from the world as this one. We think of O.J. Simpson, Kyle Rittenhouse, and Casey Anthony off the cuff, and now we get to add the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial to the list. Unlike the three former trials mentioned, the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial was almost comical. The famed actor kept the world laughing with his responses and facial expressions, and it was sheer entertainment for many. Throughout the trial, of course, we learned some unflattering things about Depp and Heard but

Harvey Weinstein wants his money back.
The imprisoned producer — who is awaiting extradition to Los Angeles — filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against Jose Baez, one of several lawyers who briefly represented him in his New York rape case.
He is seeking the return of $1 million in legal fees, arguing that Baez failed to substantiate the charges.
Baez — the Florida attorney best known for winning the Casey Anthony case — was Weinstein’s lawyer for about five months in 2019. Baez charged a non-refundable retainer of $200,000 per month. Under their original agreement, Baez anticipated charging a total of $2 million over 10 months.
According to the complaint, Weinstein became dissatisfied with Baez’s representation. The suit alleges that Baez was “regularly preoccupied with other matters, regularly unavailable to communicate to Weinstein, and not directly involved with the compilation, investigation, research, and drafting of various high priority substantive legal work.”
Much of that work was delegated to Baez’s co-counsel,...

Nancy Grace is joining Fox Nation, the network’s streaming service, with a crime show airing in January 2020.
The series will be similar to Grace’s eponymous show on Hln, which aired from 2005 to 2016, and follow Grace as she creates her podcast and SiriusXM radio show, “Crime Stories With Nancy Grace,” five days a week.
“We spotlight breaking crime and justice news, help find missing people, especially children, solve unsolved homicides and analyze clues left behind,” Grace told the Associated Press.
Grace is a former prosecutor who has since made her name on television as a political commentator. In 2005, she hosted the “Nancy Grace” primetime show on Hln (formerly CNN Headline News), where she covered high-profile criminal cases like the Casey Anthony and Amanda Knox trials. Caitlyn Jenner became the first trans person ever to take the stage at a Comedy Central Roast, when she showed up to razz Alec Baldwin Saturday night. Despite the milestone, roasters like “Will and Grace” star Sean Hayes didn’t hold back at ribbing Jenner for her transition and a whole lot more.
“You’ve got some balls, girl,” Hayes joked in the opening moments of taping at the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles.
Jenner told the audience she knew what she was getting into just being at the roast, but explained that her decision to join was to inspire “future generations of transgender people.”
“I’m a person trying to figure out my life, just like everyone else,” Jenner said. “All I want is for future generations of transgender people to know that if I can find the courage to be ridiculed, you can handle anything… except Adam Carolla’s podcast.

Alec Baldwin was burned by comedians, athletes, Robert De Niro and even his own daughter at his Comedy Central Roast, which was taped on Saturday night at the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles. But another person on the dais served as a lightning rod for just as many of the barbs.
Caitlyn Jenner, who turned up to help roast the man of the hour, was the subject of some of the most savage jabs, mostly revolving around her transition, politics and famous family. A brief sampling of the night’s best zingers:
Nikki Glaser: “Stevie Wonder sees his sons more than you do. I know being a new mom is hard, but even Casey Anthony knows the current location of her daughter.”
Chris Redd: “You’re against gay marriage, you voted for Trump. You’re like the Auntie Tom of the trans community.”
De Niro: “There’s something different about you,...
