A major cast member will be absent when Night Court returns with Season 2 on January 2. Kapil Talwalkar, who played court clerk Neil in Season 1, has exited as the comedy series has decided to take the show in a new creative direction, Deadline has confirmed.
In addition to his role in Judge Abby Stone’s (Melissa Rauch) court, Season 1 was setting up Neil to possibly have a romantic future with her as things with fiance Rand fizzled.

“She’s very much a country girl and a country mouse who is now trying to become a city mouse. That is not a comparison to my size, though accurate,” joked Rauch in an interview with Deadline ahead of the show’s series premiere in January.

It got off to a good start out of the pins with its opening throw scoring a 0.3 and 4.1M viewers, making it the 2021-22 season’s second most-watched comedy series premiere in fast affiliates, following Ghosts launch in October. But it since has been a so-so performer with lead-in retention in the ballpark of B Positive and United States of Al, both of which also were canceled.

Chicago – Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a unique dichotomy. Part independent and part mainstream film actor, he’s managed to succeed as both. And with this Friday’s release of “Don Jon,” add to that list a first-time writer and director. But none of it could have been without Christopher Nolan.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Nolan – who made his worldwide mark with “Memento,” “Batman Begins,” “The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight,” “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises” – is credited with making Joseph Gordon-Levitt mainstream.
Jgl – as I’ll hereafter refer to him because 20 characters is too many and it’s almost as cool as Neil Patrick Harris’ Nph – has been mentored heavily by Nolan. Jgl starred in Nolan’s “Inception” (his mainstream breakout role) and then “The Dark Knight Rises”.
Entirely of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, only 32 years old and from Los Angeles, this 5-foot-9 “Regular Joe” turned once again to Nolan when he decided to embark on his own project.

Winner of a 2012 Audience Award at Sundance, comedian Mike Birbiglia wrote, directed and stars in this sincere and hilarious film, based on his off-Broadway show and bestselling book. It’s also the first movie co-written by Ira Glass and co-produced by “This American Life.” The story: when an aspiring stand-up fails to express his true feelings about his girlfriend and his stalled career, his anxiety comes out in increasingly funny and dangerous sleepwalking incidents.
Sleepwalk With Me features Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”), Carol Kane (“Taxi”), James Rebhorn (“Meet the Parents”), Cristin Milioti (star of Broadway’s “Once”), plus comedians Marc Maron, Kristen Schaal, Wyatt Cenac, Jesse Klein, Henry Phillips and David Wain.
