Adam Lambert is putting his skills to the ultimate test on this week’s “That’s My Jam,” when a spin of the Wheel of Music challenges him to impersonate music legend, Cher.
In an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap ahead of Monday’s episode of the NBC series, Simu Liu and Halle Bailey battle it out against Chlӧe Bailey and Lambert on the NBC game show. Lambert’s pull of the mic to spin the wheel lands on the wheel of musical impressions.
If impersonating Cher wasn’t enough pressure, the “Whataya Want From Me” singer is tasked with singing “The Muffin Man” à la Cher — a prospect that sends both Lambert and host/executive producer Jimmy Fallon into laughter.
“Do you have a Cher in you?” Fallon asks Lambert, who gets into character with a classic Cher expression. “I got it,” Lambert exclaims as he heads to the stage.

After three seasons of being one of the best shows on TV, HBO Max has canceled "South Side." The comedy series centered on community college graduates Simon (Sultan Salahuddin) and Kareme (Kareme Young), two best friends with big dreams of becoming venture capitalists who are stuck working at a rent-to-own shop in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago until they can break into the biz. The cancelation is just the latest in a slew of cancellations from HBO Max, and incredibly frustrating considering the show was originally airing on Comedy Central before HBO Max came knocking. Fans anticipated a longer life for "South Side" with the backing of a giant like Warner Bros. Discovery, but alas, the show seems to be another casualty in the quest for David Zaslav to cut costs.

South Side is coming to an end on HBO Max.
The comedy series from co-creators Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle and Sultan Salahuddin is not getting a fourth season, a representative for the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed platform told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday.
“While HBO Max will not be moving forward with a fourth season of South Side, we are so proud of the rich world Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle and Sultan Salahuddin created,” the statement read. HBO Max went on to praise the team at MTV Entertainment Studios, which was behind the series, in addition to the “supremely talented” cast and crew.
“For three seasons, this beloved series balanced cutting, hyperlocal social commentary about life on the South Side of Chicago with silly, sometimes zany humor,” the message continued. “The result was a wholly unique, ambitious and fearless comedy that could speak to everyone living the American dream.”

Chicago – One the brightest comedies set in Chicago is “South Side,” created by Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle. The series began on Comedy Central and moved to HBO Max, and Season Three began streaming on December 8th, 2022, with the same free-wheeling and hilarious misadventures of Simon and Kareme.
The two lead characters (portrayed by Bashir’s brother Sultan Salahuddin and Kareme Young) are stuck in a dead end job with a rental company in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, and are constantly coming up with entrepreneurial “opportunities” to get their piece of the American dream. Both creators of the show also have roles, most prominently Bashir as Cpd Officer Goodnight, with Diallo Riddle portraying Chicago Alderman Allen Gayle.

Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin know that having their own show is an opportunity that neither of them can waste.
The latest proof of their longtime comedic partnership is Season 3 of “South Side,” the hilarious workplace-adjacent comedy that began its life on Comedy Central and now resides on HBO Max. The show follows Rto, an Englewood-area rent-to-own store, as their employees travel through the greater Chicago area, repossessing furniture and getting caught in the wildest, weirdest corners of the city. When Salahuddin’s Officer Goodnight isn’t somehow wrapped up in those same schemes and scuffles, he’s one of the many characters on the show who gets a full (and sometimes very confusing) life away from their job.
One way to juggle all these different people and ideas is to throw as much into the mix as possible. Over the course of a single conversation, Salahuddin and Riddle mentioned...

Photo: ‘South Side’ ‘South Side’ is a glorious anomaly within the usually predictable, and the larger landscape of half-hour TV comedies that exists today. Fans of the show rejoiced earlier this year when the news broke that the series was indeed being renewed for a third season. Originally airing on Comedy Central, but making the jump to HBO Max after its first season, the Chicago-based sitcom quickly developed a passionate and steadily growing cult following. The strength of the show’s writing and casting is simply undeniable. A truly homegrown product, ‘South Side’ was conceived by two brothers who are native to Englewood, a neighborhood on Chicago’s titular South Side. Bashir and Sultan Salahuddin, along with Bashir’s longtime writing partner Diallo Riddle, write, produce, and act in the series themselves. Marlon Wayans’ new comedy inspired by his life and career is on the move. Starz has taken in for development Book of Marlon, with Wayans set to star, co-write and executive produce. The project, which was previously in development at HBO Max, hails from Sherman’s Showcase and South Side creators Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin, Wayans’ longtime producing partner Rick Alvarez (Marlon), Michael Rotenberg and Warner Bros. TV.
Book of Marlon was originally set up at HBO Max in 2020. There was chatter that the project at some point had been unofficially greenlighted to pilot but it never went to production. I hear the comedy was eventually put on hold and ultimately into turnaround in early 2022 when the producers took it out and found a new home for it at Starz.

Marlon Wayans is moving his semi-autobiographical comedy series “Book of Marlon” to Starz.
The premium cabler has put the show into development after it was previously set up at HBO Max. It was originally set up at HBO Max in 2020 as part of an overall deal Wayans had signed there.
In the half-hour show, Wayans would play a fictionalized version of himself, exploring his professional life as a comedian and actor, as well as his personal life as he attempts to reconcile being a good person and loving father with being Marlon. Wayans will star in the series in addition to co-writing and executive producing. As with the original HBO Max iteration, Rick Alvarez will also co-writer and executive produce. Now, though, Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin have come onboard to co-write and serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Riddle previously worked with Wayans on the latter’s NBC series “Marlon,...

Marlon Wayans is getting the comedy treatment at Starz.
The network is developing “Book of Marlon,” inspired by the actor and comedian’s life, it was announced on Tuesday. Wayans will play a fictionalized version of himself in the series.
Wayans will star, co-write and executive produce the series. Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin are the showrunners as part of their overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. They’ll also executive produce as will Rick Alvarez and Michael Rotenberg.
“We believe Marlon is a once-in-a-generation talent and we’re thrilled to finally be working with him in this capacity on a show,” Riddle and Salahuddin said in a statement. “We can’t wait for people to get a glimpse of what his real life is like and we can’t thank Starz enough for allowing us to do so in an unflinchingly honest way.”

Black Reel Awards annually recognize the excellence of African Americans, as well as the cinematic achievements of the African diaspora, in the global film and television industry. This year there are a lot of nominees and a few new categories.
The comedy series Atlanta edges out all the competition with 11 nominations. Quinta Brunson and Abbott Elementary come in second with nine.
Walter Moseley garners four nominations for writing two episodes of the Apple TV+ series The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray and FX’s Snowfall. Donald Glover snags four nominations, for acting and writing one episode each and directing two episodes of the front-running Atlanta.
HBO (and HBO Max) dominates the competition this year by receiving a whopping 42 nominations. More than double the next nearest competitor, ABC with nineteen nominations. Netflix comes in third with 18 nominations. A grand total of seventeen different networks receive nominations this year, up four from last year.

Chicago – The big excitement for Memorial Day weekend 2022 at the movies is the delayed-for-two-year release of “Top Gun: Maverick,” the sequel to the 1986 classic, both starring Tom Cruise. Two of his supporting actors in the film, both from Chicago, are Bashir Salahuddin and Charles Parnell.
When we meet Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise) again, we find out that he has passed on promotions or training assignments to basically stay a Navy fighter pilot for 36 years. When a threat from an enemy creates an impossible bombing mission, Admiral Iceman (Val Kilmer) calls for Maverick to train an elite new class, which includes “Rooster” (Miles Teller), the son of his old wingman Goose, who died in the first Top Gun film. Supporting Maverick in this mission is Chief Warrant Office Bernie “Hondo’ Coleman (Salahuddin) and Rear Admiral Solomon “Warlock” Bates (Parnell). Can Maverick answer the call of his country, or will his ego...

Progress continues to be incremental in front of and behind television cameras in Hollywood. An October 2021 UCLA Television Diversity study examined 461 scripted television shows airing or streaming during the 2019-20 season. It revealed that only 32.1 percent of scripted broadcast network shows, 28.1 percent on cable TV, and 26.8 percent on streaming platforms, featured majority non-white casts. Each category saw an increase of roughly 2-3 percent over the previous season. In summary, despite popular claims of a “renaissance” for Bipoc creatives in Hollywood (especially for African Americans), there’s still much work to be done on the matter of inclusion in all job areas.
As their study states, the Bipoc group is not proportionately represented to their share of the U.S. population, even though audience interest in programming with talent that represents the nation’s diversity, continues to increase.
When Bipoc narratives are controlled by non-bipoc creatives, character story lines may lack authenticity,...

Chicago – One the brightest comedies set in Chicago is “South Side,” created by Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle. The pair moved the show from Comedy Central to HBO Max, and Season Two dropped for streaming on November 11th, 2021, with the same free-wheeling and hilarious misadventures of Simon and Kareme.
The duo (portrayed by Bashir’s brother Sultan Salahuddin and Kareme Young) are stuck in a dead end job with a rental company in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, and are constantly coming up with entrepreneurial “opportunities” to get their piece of the American dream. Both creators of the show also have roles, most prominently Bashir as Cpd Officer Goodnight.

‘South Side’ Review: Chicago-Set Comedy Returns for a Season 2 with Dreams Even Bigger than the City
The season finale of the first season of “South Side” closed with a few friends in a basement, floating away into deep space. It would have been a bittersweet ending for the then-Comedy Central show if it had stopped there, a parting reminder of how big this collection of mismatched employees could go. Fortunately, after a two year hiatus, “South Side” is back — this time as an HBO Max original — and it’s not afraid to keep going galactic whenever it decides to.
Most of “South Side” still revolves around the employees of “Rent-t-Own,” a store that loans out everything from end tables to TVs to household appliances. In their downtime at work, Simon (Sultan Salahuddin) and Kareme (Kareme Young) are usually deep into some plan that will be their ticket to a new job, better conditions at their current one, or (as is the case with the show...

An October 2020 UCLA Hollywood Diversity study — which focused on broadcast, cable and streaming programming for the previous two television seasons — reported that, when it comes to racial diversity in television industry jobs, while Black, indigenous, and other people of color (Bipoc) creatives continue to make incremental gains, positions at the highest ranks and behind the camera still elude them. The group is not represented proportionately to their share of the U.S. population overall, even though audiences continue to show interest in programming with talent that represents the nation’s diversity.
The analysis found that the greatest racial disparities are in behind-the-camera jobs such as a show’s creator, director, and writer: Among digital programs, just 10.3 percent of show creators were Bipoc; in broadcast, 10.7 percent; and for cable, 14.7 percent.

Development projects in the works at CBS this year include drama Antarctica from The Boys’ Paul Grellong, Josh Berman and Sony Pictures TV,...
