For the conclusion of Diamond Comic Distributors Retailer Summit and for the opening of Geppi’s Entertainment Museum’s new exhibit 75 Spirited Years: Will Eisner and The Spirit on Friday, September 25, 2015 – four top creators were asked to provide their interpretations of a concept sketch that had been created by Eisner but never before finished.
One of those creators was Mark Wheatley, the Inkpot, Mucker, Gem, Speakeasy, and Eisner award-winning writer-artist perhaps best known for his successful and often cutting-edge collaborations with fellow writer-artist Marc Hempel. Wheatley will see his piece based on Eisner’s sketch featured on the cover of a limited edition of Overstreet’s Comic Book Marketplace Yearbook 2015-2016. This version will be given to retailers who attend the closing party for the Retailer Summit, which is also the official kick-off of the Eisner exhibit.
“I’m thrilled to have been asked to posthumously collaborate with Will Eisner on this project.

Back at the beginning of July in the daily Briefs, I started the Official snicks Top 100 Lost Hits of The 80's, spotlighting the 100 greatest minor hits of that decade. The songs you don't hear on any 80's nostalgia show. Songs that missed the top ten, or top twenty ... or top forty, and over the last five months I hope some of these forgotten gems may have rung a long dormant bell, or for younger readers, provided a pop music history lesson.
Here is the complete list, including my favorite lost song of the decade. Thank you for taking this 80's road trip with me ... but it's not over yet! I'll be featuring a new Lost Hit once a week in the Wednesday Briefs, so the history lesson will continue!
Let the countdown commence, and remember ... keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars!

Birthday shoutouts go to Benedict Cumberbatch (above), who is 36, and Jared Padalecki (below) is 30.
Here's a list of Emmy snubs.Woo-hoo! The absolutely faboo Jennifer Jason Leigh will play Emily/Amanda's long lost mother in a recurring role on the new season of Revenge. Can't wait! Did Jesus Eat Chick-fil-a at the Last Supper? I missed this in my Emmy post because frankly, it didn't occur me to look at the category, but big congrats to Dan Savage! (h/t dougmc)
Finally, I've found my people, and I can now say loud and proud, "I am a Glob!"A Quilt For Charlie: Remembering My Brother Who Died Of AIDS. Dot Marie Jones received the only Emmy nom for Glee this year, and she talks about her shock at the news, and her feelings about the domestic abuse storyline that garnered her nomination. And below you can see the gang talk...

The singer-turned-actor talks about his parents' influence on his new album, his role in The Hunger Games – and his other passion: upholstery and interior design
Funny, I think, you compile a list of questions for a man known for his interracial heritage and for creating music that partakes equally of genres black and white, anticipating a conversation that will range back and forth across the racial faultlines of modern America – as indeed it does – and the first thing he mentions is your skin colour.
"You obviously didn't come here from the UK with that tan, now did you?" says Lenny Kravitz, shaking hands with a friendly smile. This being British press day in La, I guess that Kravitz has spent the morning talking to a succession of sun-starved and jet-lagged London journos, making my Hamiltonian mid-winter La hue more noticeable by contrast.
"Huh?" I say, wondering for a second if...

In Lone Justice, we presented the story of a superhero whose millionaire secret identity fell on hard times during what is politely termed an economic downturn. Well, according to this vacation rental listing on Trip Advisor, Lone Justice isn’t the only fellow having problems:
Situated in the grand expanse of the Thomas and Martha Wayne estate on the outskirts of Gotham City, Wayne Manor welcomes guests with centuries-old charm combined with the very latest technological amenities to ensure your stay is as memorable as the day your parents died.
Relax in the misty gray sunshine on the spacious greens for a damp stroll in the afternoon, or in the event of clear skies enjoy a cocktail at your choice of either Olympic-sized swimming pools. Welcome back, friends. After the hate-spew I delivered in the first few weeks, and the near love-in I had over the last two… I asked myself what was the obvious next step.
Self?
Yes, Marc?
What’s the obvious next step?
Hell if I know. I still hate Flashpoint. And about half of the DC reboot. And the X-Men. And walnuts.
Well, that’s no help.
Sorry. Why don’t you talk about Malibu?
Seems simple enough. Let me set the scene. It was 6th grade. 1993. I’d just met this crazy kid named Matt who drew better than me, and loved comics. I was insanely jealous of his talent, and unlike my other friends at the time, he wasn’t a brilliant mathematician well on his way to being our eventual class valedictorian. He invited me to a sleepover birthday party, which pretty much meant by the next week,...

There’s something about barbarian swordsmen that lends itself to parody that can often outstrip the original– think Cerebus, Groo, and Maureen Birnbaum, Barbarian Swordsperson. And now we have Skultar, a new comic from M. J. Butler (Munden’s Bar) and Eisner Award–winning artist Mark Wheatley (Ez Street, Lone Justice, Mars) appearing in Dark Horse Presents #7, on sale this December.
In an age before recorded history, in a brutal world ruled by myth, magic, and monsters, a hero rises to fight for the oppressed.
His name is Skultar.
Unfortunately, he dies shortly after our story begins . . .
In his place, another rises up to be mistaken for Skultar, to claim the riches and reputation his legend brings. Similar to Skultar in strength, and nothing else, he nevertheless must stumble his way through his adventures, aided by Skultar’s right-hand man. If Skultar’s enemies ever find out he’s an impostor,...

You may remember from back in November, 2009 an anthology series called As Darkness Falls created by John Alsedek. It has been picked up for distribution by publisher Speaking Volumes, but that's just the beginning. Now Alsedek is taking aim at the TV market with three different series currently being pitched, all of which would be filmed in high contrast black & white.
From the Press Release:
During the ‘Golden Age of Television’, fans of the horror, sci-fi & fantasy genres were treated to a cavalcade of programs that would go on to become legends. "The Twilight Zone", "The Outer Limits", and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", as well as lesser-known shows such as Boris Karloff’s "Thriller" (named by Stephen King as “the best horror series ever on TV”), left millions of viewers in utter awe on a weekly basis…and a great deal of the reason for that was because the programs were filmed in black & white.

Variety reports that Blood of the Innocent, based on the graphic novel series setting Dracula against Jack the Ripper written by Rickey Shanklin & Ez Street and Lone Justice co-creator Mark Wheatley, drawn by Munden’s Bar artist Marc Hempel & Mark Wheatley, and published by Warp in 1985, is being funded as a full length feature.
Inferno has acquired underlying rights to the series and is funding development and production of the feature, which is being co-produced with Circle of Confusion. Jim Siebel, Marc Butan and Bill Johnson are producing for Inferno; Circle of Confusion partner David Engel and VP Stephen Emery are also producing along with Ksana Golod.
“Blood” has been in development at the production/management banner since last year. Breck Eisner (“The Crazies”) is attached to direct and Bill Marsilii (“Deja Vu”) is writing.
Congrats to Rickey, Mark, and Marc. Save us aisle seats at the premiere.

What started out as a joke between editors of the Daily Cross Hatch blog, Brian Heater and Sarah Morean, has stormed across the land to become a for us nerds to celebrate in tandem. Read Comics in Public Day is exactly what it sounds like. Remember to the "norms", "muggles", and "non-nerds" comic books are but mere childish things. While they may have heard of "Graphic Novels", and probably have seen more than one film lately that was once based on some form of comic literature... they themselves wouldn't be caught dead perusing an issue of Action Comics or Ghost World whilst out and about. And while hipsters flick and pan on their iPhones, iPads and Kindles, and the spinsters cling to their romance novels whilst whisking themselves on planes, trains, and buses... They look down their noses at we who de-bag our copy of Ultimate Spider-Man, and revel in the mid-adventures of Peter Parker.
