The Universal Orlando Resort theme park has added a new banana-loving attraction: Minion Land. The destination off the animation-studio-themed Illumination Avenue officially opened Friday.
The “Minions”-themed section will include the theme park’s newest attraction, Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast. The shooter game lets guests of all ages take aim at some of the biggest villains from the “Despicable Me” franchise as they see if they have what it takes to become a supervillainous member of the Vicious 6 themselves.
The ride marks Universal Orlando’s first phone-connected gameplay attraction. Using the park’s app, guests can sync their blasters to their phones. That lets them track their scores, start special missions in the attraction, earn digital collectibles and unlock other perks, including special blasts for their blasters.
Minion Land also adds new dining options, including the Minion Cafe; the walk-up location Pop-a-Nana, which features banana-flavored popcorn; and the walk-up dessert shop Freeze Ray Pops.

One of the more striking details of Jeff Rowe's new animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" is that -- for the first time in the franchise's decades-long history -- the central turtles are actually played by teenage actors. Micah Abbey, who played Donatello, was only 15 at the time of recording. Brady Noon (Raphael) was only 16, while Nicolas Cantu (Leonard) and Shamon Brown, Jr. (Michelangelo) were only 17 or 18. The filmmakers also insisted that the four lead actors all be allowed to record their lines together, capturing a certain kind of sloppy spontaneity that only real teenagers possess.
In animation, younger characters -- especially those on long-running TV shows -- are typically played by adults, usually adult women. Bart Simpson, as we all might know, has been 10 years old for 35 years, and is played by actor Nancy Cartwright. Bobby Hill from "King of the Hill" was played by Pamela Adlon.

The first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming animated adventure The Magician’s Elephant teases an enchanting adaptation of Newbery-winning author Kate Dicamillo’s 2009 novel.
In a nearly two-minute first look at the animated feature premiering globally on March 17 and helmed by first-time director and animation and vfx veteran Wendy Rogers (Puss in Boots, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian), the streamer promises an emotionally heartfelt and visually stunning coming-of-age fable about the desire to connect and belong, embracing possibility and the power of hope and compassion.
“The first time I watched the movie, I was struck by the sheer beauty of it — it is a gorgeous film visually,” Dicamillo says of the Rogers-helmed adaptation. “But also, there is a real, genuine heart to the film. It is deeply moving. That is the true magic of it.”
Coming more than a decade after an adaptation was first announced with producer Julia Pistor...

Elon Musk’s assertion that comedy would be “legal” on Twitter now that he’s forked over 44 billion for the company was always rather dubious, especially since true posters know the good bits have always been plentiful. A classic one even got going yesterday when the #RIPJimmyFallon hashtag started trending despite The Tonight Show host definitively not being dead.
The exact origins of the bit are unclear, though obviously, that’s part of the fun. Either way, it spread like wildfire, especially as users accompanied the hashtag with photos of people who weren’t Fallon.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “Crank Dat Killer,” Season 4, Episode 6 of “Atlanta.”
In 2006 and 2007, Atlanta was experiencing a renaissance.
A renaissance of snap music, to be specific. The city was already producing hits like Dem Franchise Boyz’s “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It” and D4L’s “Laffy Taffy.” Then, Soulja Boy released his debut single Crank That (Soulja Boy)” just as the concept of YouTube virality was coming into existence, prompting thousands of Atlantans to create their own versions — from “Crank Dat Yank” to “Crank Dat Roosevelt” to a “Super Mario” version — while the rest of the country watched.
In Season 4, Episode 6 of “Atlanta,” headlines are warning Atlantans about the Crank Dat Killer, a serial killer targeting anyone and everyone who made a “Crank Dat” video back in the day. Alfred aka Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) realizes his old “Crank Dat Jimmy Neutron...
