We are still approximately six weeks away from learning the nominees for the 77th Tony Awards, but across the pond the finalists for the 2024 Olivier Awards were just announced. A radical new remounting of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard” directed by Jamie Lloyd and starring Nicole Scherzinger is the most nominated show of the year with 11 citations. Another musical revival is nipping at its heels: the immersive “Guys and Dolls” scored 10, as did new play “Dear England,” which centers on England’s national men’s football team and stars Joseph Fiennes as Gareth Southgate. Scroll down to see a complete list of 2024 Olivier Awards nominations.

Last month, it was announced that Patrick Wilson, who has starred in the likes of three Conjuring movies and three Insidious movies (one of which he directed), is producing a stage musical adaptation of Joel Schumacher’s 1987 vampire classic The Lost Boys (watch it Here). Now that project is taking a big step forward, as Deadline has learned that there’s going to be an industry presentation of the show next month, with Frozen‘s Caissie Levy, Dear Evan Hansen‘s Nathan Levy, and & Juliet‘s Lorna Courtney having been cast in major roles. This private presentation is scheduled to be held on February 23rd – and even though only industry insiders will get to watch it, that’s enough to inspire the people behind the show to release a teaser trailer for what they’re calling The Lost Boys: A New Musical. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

The Lost Boys, the previously announced, in-development stage musical adaptation of 1987 horror classic, has set an invitation-only industry presentation for next month, with Frozen‘s Caissie Levy, Dear Evan Hansen‘s Nathan Levy and & Juliet‘s Lorna Courtney in pivotal roles.
The private presentation in New York City will take place on February 23. A high-concept teaser trailer was released today, which includes a snippet of a haunting song with the repeated lyrics “when the secret comes out…” Watch it above.
The new musical, announced in December, will feature a book by David Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia writer/EP) & Chris Hoch, music & lyrics by pop-rock band The Rescues. Tony winner Michael Arden (Parade), will direct.
Caissie Levy will play Lucy Emerson, the recently divorced mom who unwittingly moves herself and two sons to a vampire-infested California beach town. The younger son is Sam, to be played by Nathan Levy.

With 38 productions eligible for this year’s Tony Awards, there were plenty of names missing when nominations were announced on Tuesday morning. Among the most surprising 2023 Tony nominations snubs was “Life of Pi” for Best Play. The production earned nine Olivier Award nominations across the pond, winning Best New Play, Actor (Hiran Abeysekera), Featured Actor, Lighting Design and Set Design. But at the Tonys, it missed out on a Best Play bid and didn’t score a nomination for Abeysekera. The production did perform well in the design categories, though, earning five nominations including for director Max Webster.

Tom Stoppard’s haunting drama “Leopoldstadt” is the rare non-musical play to become a smash hit on Broadway. After critics fell in love with the gripping historical piece, the show broke the house record at the Longacre Theatre twice, over two consecutive weeks in October. Its highest weekly gross soared to 1,158,051. If this critical and commercial success translates into a Tony Award win for Best Play next spring, playwright Tom Stoppard will best his own record in that top race.
“Leopoldstadt” begins in 1899 Vienna and traces the history of a Jewish family as they move from a period of relative happiness and prosperity into the tumultuous 20th century and its eventual horrors. Patrick Marber directs the quiet epic, which focuses on how countless personal histories have been consumed by war and time. The sprawling cast of 32 includes David Krumholtz, Brandon Uranowitz, Faye Castelow, Arty Froushan, Caissie Levy, and Seth Numrich.

One of the world’s greatest living playwrights has returned to Broadway. Over a decade since his last effort, Tom Stoppard has come back with epic play “Leopoldstadt,” a sprawling family drama based in part on his own family’s history during the early-twentieth century. The drama opened at the Longacre Theatre on Oct. 2.
Unspooling over five decades, the play follows the Jewish Merz family and their many relations as the antisemitism of the Holocaust penetrates their bourgeois home in Vienna. Directed by two-time Tony nominee Patrick Marber, “Leopoldstadt” boasts a cast of nearly three dozen, led by David Krumholtz, Caissie Levy, and Brandon Uranowitz.
Stoppard’s latest received near-universal raves from critics. In his Critic’s Pick review, Jesse Green (New York Times) calls the play “harrowing” and says it features the dramatist’s “trademark bravura” and “kaleidoscopic technique.” Commending the entire ensemble, he writes, “The acting is excellent across the board,...

“Death of a Salesman”
In the fifth Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s 1949 drama, Willy Loman is a traveling salesman whose illusions of picture-perfect business and family life cave in on him. He and his family are caught up in the pressures and delusions of living the American dream.
The original production directed by Elia Kazan won six Tony Awards (including Best Play) and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This staging follows a successful run on London’s West End back in 2019, where it received five Laurence Olivier...

The copper-green Confederate Soldier statue that holds the stage before the cast of Broadway’s wondrous revival of Caroline, Or Change assembles looks as if it could rouse itself with the slightest provocation, perhaps through a spark of the same theatrical magic that will soon give life to a washing machine, a radio, a clothes dryer.
But this statue of this Southern “Defender” remains unmoving, a dead thing. And yet…
The malign power of “that ol’ copper Nightmare Man,” as one character has it, lingers over this powerful musical in so many varied ways, a soul crusher for one character, a call to rebellion for others and, for the audience, confirmation that this tour de force by Tony Kushner (book and lyrics) and Jeanine Tesori (music) has only grown in power and immediacy in the 17 years since its last Broadway production.

Broadway performances all over the New York theater district are starting back up again after a year and a half of Covid-19 pandemic closures. There are currently six musical productions set to open this fall. Could we see any of them contend at next year’s Tony Awards? This original musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss tells the stories of the six wives of King Henry VIII presented as a pop concert. Each ex-wife gets to sing and tell her story to determine who suffered the most from marrying Henry and should therefore become the group’s lead singer.

Most of the originally-planned cast of the upcoming Broadway musical revival Caroline, or Change will be in place when the Roundabout Theatre Company production begins performances on Oct. 8 at the Studio 54 theater – at least the adult actors.
The hiring of a new line-up of several child performers was necessitated when the previously announced kids outgrew their roles during the Covid pandemic shutdown. The musical originally was set to begin performances during spring of 2020.
Newcomers to the show include both Gabriel Amoroso and Adam Makké (sharing the role of Noah Gellman with the previously announced Jaden Myles Waldman). They’ll join the show’s previously announced star Sharon D Clarke, along with John Cariani, Joy Hermalyn, Arica Jackson, Tamika Lawrence, Caissie Levy, Kevin S. McAllister, Harper Miles, N’Kenge, Nya, Richard Alexander Phillips, Jayden Theophile, Nasia Thomas, Jaden Myles Waldman, Samantha Williams, Stuart Zagnit and Chip Zien.
The musical officially opens on Oct.

In the meantime, we fight and go forward. Keep us in your thoughts.”

The new musical “The Prom” won over industry folks with its big heart and bevy of Broadway insider jokes. But many wondered where each member of the ensemble cast would compete at this year’s Tony Awards. While the Tony Administration Committee decided Brooks Ashmanskas would be the sole Lead Actor contender, they went the opposite route with the women. Beth Leavel and Caitlin Kinnunen will each compete for Lead Actress in a Musical. So can they both land bids?
Leavel, a Tony winner for “The Drowsy Chaperone,” plays vain Broadway diva Dee Dee Allen. She and her fellow thespians head to a small town in Indiana to help Emma (Kinnunen) bring her girlfriend to the high school prom…and scoop up some much needed press in the process. It’s the type of over the top, scene-chewing role in which Leavel always excels. Two of her big numbers bring...

Broadway actress and three-time Tony nominee Marin Mazzie died this morning in New York. She was 57.
Her death was announced by her husband, actor Jason Danieley. Mazzie had been fighting ovarian cancer since her diagnosis three years ago.
Lauded for her unforgettable performances in Ragtime, Kiss Me, Kate and, perhaps most of all, Stephen Sondheim’s 1994 musical Passion, Mazzie was mourned today by Broadway. “This is absolutely devastating,” tweeted Patti Murin of Frozen. “What a bright, shining light she was…”
“The lights of Broadway all shine a little dimmer tonight,” wrote Daniel Dae Kim, her co-star in 2016’s The King and I. “My heart goes out to Jason and all who were lucky enough to call her family or friend.”
“Beautiful, brave and inspiring,” wrote Harvey Fierstein. “A glorious voice and an even better human being…”

Frozen fans got a special treat during the 2018 Tony Awards.
The cast of the Broadway musical, based on the hit animated Disney movie, performed not one — but two songs on Sunday’s show.
Patti Murin, who stars as Princess Anna in the Broadway musical, opened the medley with the number “For the First Time in Forever,” a track from the movie and musical that sees Anna getting ready for her sister Elsa’s coronation.
While she puts on her famous green dress, Anna realizes that she’ll finally get to spend time with people in the barren castle — and maybe ever meet “the one!

Exclusive: Mean Girls led the field by winning eight prizes, including Favorite New Musical, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child won Favorite New Play in the 18th annual Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards.
The winners were announced today ahead of a cocktail reception for winners set for May 24 in Manhattan. The list of winners (see full list below) overlaps to some degree with the Tony Award nominees. But because they were determined by nearly 21,000 fans voting in a Broadway.com survey, there are some notable departures, with The Parisian Woman winning twice and Lobby Hero‘s Chris Evans also getting on the board.
The 22 competitive categories include areas not covered by the Tonys, such as Favorite Long Running Show. This year that honor went to Dear Evan Hansen, last year’s winner for Favorite New Musical. Before Hamilton broke the streak last year, Favorite Long-Running Musical had gone to...

If you thought Idina Menzel's version of "Let It Go" in Frozen was spine-tingling, then you haven't heard anything yet. Broadway's musical adaptation of the hit Disney animated movie released a music video for the hit number on Thursday, and we can't stop playing it. Not only does the clip give you a glimpse of the show's magical set and dazzling costumes, but Caissie Levy (who plays Elsa) will give you chills with her incredible voice. Seriously, you'll want to book your ticket to NYC Asap. Grab a sweater and your best gloves, and get ready to be blown away by the showstopping number above.

You might have thought that Idina Menzel, high priestess of belting, achieved the high watermark of chilly, modulating empowerment ballads with the original recording of “Let It Go,” but somehow Broadway’s version of the song is yet more extreme. Onstage in Frozen the musical, Caissie Levy plays Elsa the ice queen, and as you can see in the video above, takes that option up in her big centerpiece song — you know, just for the drama of it all. The last verse includes a whole backing ensemble, too. Disney knows how to burn money.

To celebrate the debut of the Frozen Original Broadway Cast Recording, the show has just released a brand new, behind-the-scenes music video of its best known song and Act I closer, Let It Go. This is the first time that the Broadway version of the song, and Caissie Levy's Elsa thrilling vocal performance, have been heard outside of the St. James Theatre. The video takes the viewer into the recording studio with Levy and into the backstage and onstage worlds of the cast of the Broadway production of Frozen. Let It Go won the Academy Award in 2014 for Best Original Song.

There was plenty to cheer about when the 2018 Tony Awards nominations were announced on May 1. Deserving performers like Michael Cera (“Lobby Hero”), Deborah Findlay (“The Children”) and both Lachanze and Ariana DeBose from “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical” were recognized. However, a slew of talent was left off the list of nominees. Vote in our poll below to let us know which Tony Awards snub made you the angriest and sound off in the comments section.
Though Nathan Lane reaped a bid for playing Roy Cohn in “Angels in America,” he was the only performer from that revival mentioned in the Featured Actor category. That left out Lee Pace, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and James McArdle. McArdle was particularly shocking, as he had ranked within the top five contenders for the category from the day Gold Derby launched the predictions center.

I suspect we’ll be seeing more than one silly and misleading “frozen out” reference in coverage of this year’s Tony Awards nominations – starting with that one – but the absence of Frozen in the leading actress categories (Patti Murin and Caissie Levy), and director (Michael Grandage) from the 2018 nominations roster has gotta be a sting for Disney, even with major consolations like nods for Best musical, book and original score.
Though critical praise for Frozen was hardly unanimous, I’d have thought Levy’s performance of “Let It Go” would have provided safe passage. Same for Murin’s charming, barely-leaves-the-stage performance as the underdog Princess Anna, and I’d have nominated either over…But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Here’s a closer, first-reaction look at some of the categories. Just my opinions, of course, and I might very well be fine-tuning and re-thinking right up until...

Nominations for the 2018 Tony Awards were announced Tuesday morning — and they gave Broadway plenty to chatter about. With a roster of candidates that includes “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Mean Girls” and “Frozen,” these are the Tony nominations’ biggest snubs and surprises:
Surprise: Amy Schumer, “Meteor Shower”
The Steve Martin comedy “Meteor Shower” was one of the season’s giant hits, thanks to Schumer’s name on the marquee. But after the show earned very mixed reviews, no one expected Tony nominators to remember it particularly favorably, and even if they did, a nomination seemed most likely to have gone to Tony favorite Laura Benanti. Still, Schumer’s performance impressed nominators enough that now she’ll add an extra jolt of star power to the ceremony, where she’s up against acting royalty Glenda Jackson, among others, in the race for lead actress in a play.

Harry Potter, Tina Fey, Denzel Washington, Panic! at the Disco: They could all end up sitting in the same room in six weeks, because they’re all contenders for nominations for the 2018 Tony Awards. Who’ll stand tall, and who’ll be shut out? Here are the five biggest questions about this year’s nominations, with answers set to come when nominators name their choices Tuesday morning.
1. Can any show beat “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”?
In the race for best play? Probably not. In a season that was fairly light on new plays, the sweeping two-parter “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” — beloved by critics, massively popular with audiences, and poised to run as long as “Hamilton” — is this season’s clear juggernaut. It’ll easily score a nod for best play and is already tipped to win in a category that’ll likely include “Farinelli and the King,...

Every year, the featured acting races at the Tony Awards prove to be the most daunting to predict. Whereas the lead races rarely have more than a dozen possibilities, there is a true embarrassment of riches to sift through when it comes to the supporting players. Before you make your 2018 Tony predictions in advance of the May 1 announcement read our breakdown of these four tough categories based on our official Tony Awards odds.
Featured Actor in a Play
Nathan Lane should send the Tony Administration Committee gift bags for placing him in the Featured category. His towering portrayal of Roy Cohn is likely to win. Lane’s co-star James McArdle should also find a spot for his neurotic Louis. The other sure bet is Anthony Boyle’s heart-wrenching and Olivier winning performance in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

Frozen‘s Patti Murin missed a show last week. Not unheard of, certainly, but rare enough at the peak of this high-focus (and high-stress) Tony Awards season. And Murin stands a better-than-good chance of getting nominated – as does her co-star Caissie Levy, since both are eligible for lead actress honors. Murin, in a crowd-pleasing and well-reviewed turn as Anna, the iconic and beloved Disney heroine (the one who doesn’t sing “Let It Go”) knows well that she’s the stand-in for all the girls and boys who feel the loneliness of the youngest sibling, the self-doubt of, as Anna puts it, being spare to the heir.
But what was unusual – and remarkable – about the missed April 17 performance was Murin’s candid explanation, shared on social media. “I had a massive anxiety attack in the afternoon,” she posted, adding that “anxiety and depression are real diseases that affect so many of us.
