Imtiaz Ali’s recent outing, Amar Singh Chamkila, currently streaming on Netflix, is based on the life of a sensational Punjabi singer whose popularity soared beyond the land of five rivers and spread worldwide during the early 80s. It is a tale of courage and grit that stems from a life riled in poverty and obligation, how past experiences have formed an individual, and most importantly, how vulnerable and insecure we can be as a society. The titular protagonist of the film belonged to a low caste of Chamars, whose unshakeable confidence in his music cleared the path for both his success and his murder in broad daylight. Through the key events in the life of the controversial singer, the filmmaker creates a dramatic narration of reality in its clearest sense. Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s First Choice For Kabir Singh Wasn’t Shahid Kapoor Or Kiara Advani! ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Sandeep Reddy Vanga made his directorial debut in Bollywood with Kabir Singh. The film starred Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in lead roles and stirred controversy over its alleged misogynist content. And while we know Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra were approached earlier, scroll below for another pair that was in consideration, but we had no idea!
Kabir Singh was a major blockbuster at the Indian box office. It would be safe to say that the romantic drama grabbed a lot of eyeballs over its controversial content labeled as toxic masculinity, which pulled the audiences to the theatres. In addition, its jukebox, including songs like Bekhayali and Kaise Hua, made it to every playlist on the loop.

Any topic that can seize the attention of the audience is rare these days. We used to make aspirational stories where there were clearly defined roles for the hero and the villain. Then came the relatable phase of storytelling, where mundane stories were being told with such care that the audience could see their daily struggles in them. The new miniseries Hustlers wants to combine the two approaches to storytelling. It’s a story about an ordinary boy who hustles his way to the top, hence the name. It’s an aspirational story, as everyone connects to a ‘hero’ figure who fights his way through and succeeds in whatever endeavor he aspires to. But keeping in with the trends, Hustlers tries to keep it relatable, giving us characters that are so well known to the Indian middle class.

Biva, a young woman is sitting on the floor of a balcony in her two-storey house, next to a birdcage. She seems very sad, and as we watch the rest of the members of the family doing their daily chores, the reason becomes apparent.
