Michael A. Shea is the son of David Shea and Judy Shea, the second
oldest of their six children. He grew up in Branford, Connecticut and
graduated in 1978 from Notre Dame High School in West Haven. His father
was a long-time teacher, principal, and administrator in the West Haven
public schools. Shea earned a degree in economics from the College of
William & Mary in 1982 and a graduate degree in economics from the
London School of Economics in 1983. He has worked as a management
consultant, a Wall Street banker, and an activist in UAW Local 1981. He
studied filmmaking and video production at the University of the
Disrict of Columbia in the mid-1990s. Shea's first short film was "Dog"
and it was shown on Maryland Public Television's Independent Eye series
in 2001. His first short to be screened at a film festival, "Drive, He
Said," debuted in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2005. He has been a producer at
Arlington Independent Media since 2003. Michael Shea and Cathie
Sullivan were married on Halloween in 1992. They have one son, Matthew
Shea Sullivan.
