“The Crown” has returned, and with it renewed interest in what the prestige Netflix series got right and wrong about history. “The Crown” Season 6 is split into two parts, with the first four episodes focusing predominantly on the final weeks of Princess Diana’s life and the immediate aftermath of her death. And within those first four hours, a number of questions arise as to what’s portrayed and what actually happened.
Before the final six episodes debut in December, here’s your quick “The Crown” Season 6 fact-check.
Did Dodi Fayed really propose to Princess Diana the night they died?
One of the season’s most shocking moments shows Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) proposing to Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) the night they died, mere hours before the fatal car crash. But there is no hard evidence that this proposal ever took place. Its depiction likely stems from tabloid rumors at...

You can smell what’s happening in “Starve Acre” before you puzzle the rest of it out. The grassy, peaty dampness of its rural Yorkshire setting seems to hit the olfactory glands without any scratch-and-sniff assistance, only intensifying as the film unearths its literally deep-buried secrets. Daniel Kokotajlo’s impressive second feature unfolds in a vein of British folk horror that has been popular of late — with films from Ben Wheatley’s “A Field in England” to Mark Jenkins’s “Enys Men” all tapping into that retro “Wicker Man” eeriness — but rarely with such rattling sensory specificity or formal refinement. Starring Morfydd Clark and Matt Smith as former townies unprepared for the full burden of lore they inherit with their desolate farmhouse, it’s a tale of quite outlandish fantastical leaps, grounded by the chills it also finds in common weather and wildlife.

Batman's origin story is a tale as old as comic book time.
A dark and depressing alley. The gunshots. The falling pearls from a broken necklace. A need to take down criminals and a fascination with bats.
Bruce Wayne's journey to become Gotham City's protector has been everywhere, from film to gaming to TV. But it was the series on Fox that has a special place in our hearts: Gotham.
Gotham ran for five seasons from 2014 to 2019. The show, which you can watch online via TV Fanatic, followed many iconic characters in Batman lore years before Bruce put on the mask.
You got the seriousness of The Dark Knight mixed in with some fun comic book campiness. It was a best of both worlds that left passionate Batman fans divided over which tone they wanted.
The great thing about Gotham is that it fully embraced the antics of Gotham City.

"Are you hiding something?" Trinity Creative has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled That Good Night, which originally premiered in 2017 at the Edinburgh and Shanghai Film Festivals. The film stars John Hurt (who passed away in early 2017 before this premiered at the festivals) as Ralph, a once-famous screenwriter, who is now in his seventies and terminally ill. But he still has two final missions: to be reconciled to his son, Michael, and, secretly, to ensure he is not a burden to his wife, Anna, as he goes "into that good night". The film's cast includes Sofia Helin, Max Brown, Erin Richards, Charles Dance, and Noah Jupe. I'm not so confident about this considering it has taken three years to finally get a release, but it does look quite interesting. I enjoy Hurt's hat the most. As for the rest, it might be a heartfelt watch. Here's the...

ABC is making some big decisions about the future of some of its pilots.
The network has passed on the Revenge reboot, Thirtysomething sequel, The Brides, and Valley Trash.
Ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic forcing production to halt on all scripted series in the U.S., the Thirtysomething(else) was considered a shoo-in on the network's 2020-21 schedule.
The potential series first entered development earlier this year, with ABC later ordering a pilot presentation.
Here's the official logline:
Apparently, raising children -- even grown children -- never ends, but who could have known how hard it would be for them to raise their parents?
Reboot of the 1987-91 series 'Thirtysomething,' with emphasis on the original cast's children -- the new generation of thirtysomethings.
Returning original cast members include Ken Olin (Michael Steadman), Mel Harris (Hope Murdoch), Timothy Busfield (Elliot Weston), and Patty Wettig (Nancy Weston).

Erin Richards has been cast in the final of the three lead roles in the ABC drama pilot “The Brides,” Variety has learned.
Richards will now star as one of the titular brides alongside Gina Torres and Katherine Reis, with Sophia Tatum, Chris Mason, and Goran Visnjic also set to star in the pilot. It is described as a contemporary reimagining of “Dracula” with a trio of female leads. The show would follow these immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy, and their nontraditional family.
Richards will play Renée Pélagie. One of the three Brides of Dracula, Renée is the head of a top modeling agency in New York City, known for her torrid affairs with her beautiful female models. In her former life, she was the wife of the Marquis de Sade when she invited Dracula into her “house of pain” and asked to be “turned” by him.

Gotham alumna Erin Richards has landed the remaining title role opposite Gina Torres and Katherine Reis in The Brides, ABC’s Brides of Dracula drama pilot from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television.
Written by Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Maggie Kiley, The Brides, a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula, is a family drama with a trio of powerful female leads at its heart — Cleo (Torres), Renée (Richards), and Lily (Reis). With strong horror elements, The Brides is a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their nontraditional family.

The Bachelor kicked off a two-part finale on Monday night with Peter still deciding between Hannah Ann and Madison… and his mom clearly has a favorite.
Fresh off dumping Victoria F. last week — poor girl got dumped during the “Women Tell All” reunion! — Peter still can’t make up his mind between his final two ladies (of course), so he zips off to the Australian outback and checks in with his family. He actually shares the whole Madison “intimacy” drama with them — yikes, overshare — and they’re concerned that such a huge issue came up at the very end. (Yeah,...

When Gotham screened its pilot episode at conventions, I watched with fascination, because it showed such promise as a moody, atmospheric take on the pervasive corruption that created the antibody of The Batman. Sure, it wasn’t entirely based on eighty years of canon, but nothing could do that, so I was prepared.
I stopped watching with regularity halfway through the second season because it stopped being what was promised and became something else entirely. It was a ham-fisted, over-the-top camp take on a modern-day comic, more beholden to the ABC Batman series than the comics.
With each successive season, the twists came faster, the characters stopped making sense, and internal logic was found only in the dictionary. This was a manic Gotham City, where the line between good and evil, moral and corrupt, quality and crap was blurred with every scene.
While earlier a ratings darling, it crashed under...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Gotham” Season 5, Episode 12, “The Beginning…”]
Like the dutiful detective-turned-commissioner leading the cast, “Gotham” did exactly what it needed to do — in the series finale and final season overall. Charged with setting up the era of Batman (without ever saying his name), Fox’s crime drama took a bit of glee going through the motions, and even if the wild minds behind it couldn’t go full-tilt crazy in its waning hours, they did ensure a respectable legacy for an overtly beautiful and sneakily ambitious broadcast drama.
“The Beginnings…” — an apt finale title for a series always steaming toward its Bat-predecessors’ timelines — checked off box after box: The 10-year time jump sets up a return for Gotham’s favorite son, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), who’s been overseas becoming the hero the city needs. Before his new Wayne Tower can open, a devious plot to blow it up emerges courtesy of a mysterious new villain.
