Additionally, Jacke ordered Holder Jr. to serve 10 more years in prison for the two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter in connection with the two bystanders who were hit by gunfire in Hussle's strip-mall shooting.

Lauren London continues to be Nipsey Hussle's number one supporter. On Aug. 15, the actor spoke at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's Walk of Fame ceremony in Los Angeles after the late rapper was posthumously honored with his own star on what would've been his 37th birthday. It was also officially declared by Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson as Nipsey Hussle Day, Complex reported. Thanks to the prestigious landmark, Hussle's name is forever cemented in his hometown.
London's heartfelt speech at the Los Angeles ceremony started with her saying, "Happy birthday, Hussle," before she expressed gratitude to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. "Thank you for acknowledging a visionary. I think I speak for the entire city of LA when I say that we've always known Hussle was destined for greatness," she said in a video shared by The Shade Room. "This moment only amplifies that for us."

Jerry Harris, star of the Netflix docuseries “Cheer” was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for soliciting sex from minors on Wednesday.
His sentencing comes months after Harris pleaded guilty in his child pornography and sexual exploitation case in February 2022. Harris pleaded guilty to two counts, including receipt of child pornography and traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
After Harris is released from imprisonment, he will be on a “supervised release” for eight years, according to sentencing handed down in a Chicago courtroom by U.S. District Court Judge Manish S. Shah. Harris was also ordered to pay cumulative fines and restitution amounting to over 45,000.

Eric R. Holder Jr. has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2019 killing of rapper Nipsey Hussle.
A Los Angeles County jury today also convicted the 32-year-old Holder on two counts each of attempted voluntary manslaughter and assault with a firearm involving two other people who were injured in the March 31, 2019, shooting. Holder also was found guilty on one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Holder had admitted gunning down Hussle in front of the musician’s South Los Angeles clothing store but maintains the killing was an impulsive act committed in the “heat of passion,” as his attorney Aaron Jansen argued during the trial.
Deputy District Attorney John McKinney countered that the killing was “cold- blooded” and “calculated.”
“He’s not consumed by rage,” the prosecutor said, calling the defense’s argument “nonsense.”

Ava DuVernay will headline a fundraiser for Cory Booker’s Senate reelection campaign on Wednesday.
Booker’s re-election is widely predicted, as he faces Rik Mehta, a biotech entrepreneur. But the New Jersey incumbent has long ties to the entertainment industry that extend to his days as the mayor of Newark. Booker and DuVernay both have become champions of criminal justice reform.
The event’s ticket price starts at $50 per person and rises to $5,000 for those who want to be listed as co-chairs.
Among those on the host committee for the virtual event are Emily Deschanel, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Michael and Lydia Kives, Bari Mattes, Erik Moore and Chuck Ortner.
According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Booker has raised almost $700,000 from entertainment industry sources for his campaign, placing him in the top 10 among all Democrats.
The event is among several fundraisers planned in the last week before the election that include showbiz figures.

“The ReidOut,” Joy Reid’s new 7 p.m. MSNBC program, topped the time slot in total viewers with its Monday debut. Unfortunately, the new show still settled for a fairly distant third place among adults 25-54, which is the key demographic for companies advertising on news programming.
Erin Burnett on CNN won the demo in the hour, when 384,000 of her 1.332 million total viewers were between the ages of 25 to 54, according to Nielsen estimates.
Reid drew 2.627 million total viewers last night, with 285,000 of those coming from the key demo. That key-demo tally would technically not be last place on cable news if you counted Hln, but this is generally considered a three-horse race.

Last night I was sitting in my living room and a convoy of trucks drove by my home filled with law enforcement and National Guard troops.
I am a 59-year old African-American man and this brought back vivid childhood memories. On April 4, 1968, 18 days before my 7th birthday, I was in the middle of the street in my hometown, Detroit, Michigan playing urban baseball with my friends, using a hubcap as home plate, and neighbors’ cars as first, second, and third base.
That evening I heard my mother and grandmother scream: “They killed him! They killed him! They killed Martin Luther King, Jr.! They killed my Martin!”
I had never witnessed my mother and grandmother in such emotional pain before. Moments later, I turned my head and immediately noticed National Guard troops coming towards me with rifles and bayonets, and before I knew it, I was looking down the barrel of a tank.

“It is very important for us to take the momentum that has been created, as a society, as a country and say let’s use this to finally have an impact,” said Barack Obama today on the protests that have taken to the streets across the nation in response to the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis cops on Memorial Day.
“You look at those protests, and that was a far more representative cross-section of America out on the streets peacefully protesting who felt moved to do something because of the injustices that they had seen,” the former President added to a nation reeling from the coronavirus, widespread economic hardship and racist brutal police violence. “That didn’t exist back in the 1960s, that kind of broad coalition,” Obama emphasized for the moment in this year of election, telling those out in the streets and elsewhere to “make people in power uncomfortable.

For years now there has been a pervasive feeling among the American people that our political system is just not working the way it should. Time and again, we have seen politicians fail to take action on policies with broad popular support. Deep polarization has paralyzed Washington and torn apart any sense of common purpose in our elected officials. If you are wondering why our politics are so deeply broken, Slay the Dragon provides both an answer and a path forward.

Netflix is in talks with Nipsey Hussle’s production company, Marathon Films, for Ava DuVernay to co-produce and possibly direct a documentary about the late rapper.
Although DuVernay has attached herself to direct, it’s unclear if she has the room in her schedule, given her commitment to helm DC Comics’ “New Gods” for Warner Bros. According to a source at Netflix, the project is in preliminary stages and could manifest as a series.
Marathon Films announced in an Instagram post that in addition to DuVernay and her company Array, the untitled project will be executive produced by Roc Nation and Hussle’s children, Emani and Kross Asghedom.
“No final deal has been inked,” the post reads. “The documentary is very important to the family and will not be fast tracked by monetary gain and/or commercial interest.”
Hussle was killed on March 31, 2019, at the age of 33, outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles.

Donald Trump marched out his same cast of sycophants last week to make the case that black voters — particularly the men — have a friend in the president with the white-nationalist policies. It’s a tired routine, but it remains fascinating that Trump and his party expend so much energy not merely insulting the intelligence of black voters but also by blocking their access to the ballot. Through their fear and sinister behavior, it appears Republicans understand the value of black and Hispanic electorates better than do the Democrats.

It’s likely that “American Son,” based on the Broadway play by Christopher Demos-Brown, was written earnestly, although it seems content to revel in its seeming relevance over telling a rigorously workshopped story. It’s hoping that audiences will be so overwhelmed by the gravity of its subject matter – the unjustified killings of black men at the hands of often white police officers who are typically held unaccountable – that they won’t notice the flatness of the characters and how superficial and agonizingly manipulative their ostensibly strained debates are on the intersectionality of racism, class, police violence, and injustice. It’s made for audiences who have nothing more than a rudimentary understanding of these issues, but in 2019, it feels like a work out of time.
