UK production company Randan, Scottish slang for ’raucous partying’, is launching in Cannes with a slate of productions and backing from the UK Global Screen Fund.
It has been formed by Scotland-based producers Reece Cargan, founder of Bombito, and James Heath, managing director of commrcials outfit Mtp, where he will remain as exec producer for commercials work.
Three projects are in post-production: Rada Leonora’s In The Morning Light, about the life of surrealist artist Leonard Carrington. Mtp had been co-producing the film alongside Lena Vurma’s Dragonfly Films, Meli Melo Cultura & Piano (Mx), Digital Cube (Ro), and Skye Film; Polly Findlay’s Midwinter Break,...

French outfit takes international rights to co-production.
French sales company Cat&Docs has picked up international distribution rights to the Lithuanian-Italian feature documentary I’ll Stand By You.
The film is directed by duo Virginija Vareikyte and Maximilien Dejoie, the pair previously collaborated on 2015 docu-drama When We Talk About Kgb, which screened at multiple festivals and was nominated for a Lithuanian Film Award.
Their new film is a co-production between Lithuania’s In Script and Italy’s M&N. It centres on two women, a psychologist and a police officer, who travel through the rural areas of their home town in Lithuania...

I've only just now caught wind of a one-time-only event that took place in the Port of Tallinn last Thursday, 60 Seconds of Solitude in Year Zero, via Alison Nastasi at Movies.com: "An international collective of directors… contributed their shorts to the single 35mm film anthology that was screened for an audience one time — as part of Estonia's 2011 European Capital of Culture celebration — and then burned to the ground (along with the screen itself). Why, exactly? The project's website describes it as 'flying in the face of the cynicism of marketing, production, business operators, and the moral majority … dedicated to preserving freedom of thought in cinema.'" The roster of participating directors and artists is pretty impressive:
Brian Yuzna (USA), Michael Glawogger (Austria), Aku Louhimies (Finland), Ken Jacobs (USA), Gustav Deutsch (Austria), Tom Tykwer (Germany), Mark Boswell (USA), Malcolm Le Grice (UK), Aki Kaurismäki (Finland), Bruce McClure (UK), Mika Taanila...

Documentary-style horror films are not the novelty they once were, now a common way to cover the deficiencies of filming on cheap digital. Add to this an overused zombie theme, and you.d be forgiven for wanting to give Gerber Syndrome a miss. But a thoughtful script, low key style and above all a heavy sense of dread make this a stand out addition to the genre.
Gerber Syndrome is shot from the point of view of two camera crews following two main characters . Doctor Ricardi, who examines patients and tests them for Gerber Syndrome, a virus that initially displays flu-like symptoms; and Luigi, an officer with the Cs (Central Security), a police force specially set up to locate and detain people with advanced Gerber Syndrome, which in the later stages makes...
