The Iceman
Directed by Ariel Vromen

USA, 2012
The Iceman exists in a strange kind of cinematic purgatory, in which reside those movies that are both too rushed and too slow. With actors like Michael Shannon, Chris Evans, and Winona Ryder among the key players, this period piece about a particularly sociopathic Mob enforcer’s rise to some level of infamy is, at best, decent. But the script fast-forwards through so much of its lead character’s life and allows seemingly mundane events play out in near-slow motion, making The Iceman a drawn-out experience.
Shannon is Richard Kuklinski, a hulking but quiet young man whose job working at a porno lab circa 1964 leads him to working as a cold-blooded hitman for mid-level mobster Roy DeMeo (Ray Liotta), taking out any number of people who’ve done Roy or his bosses wrong. Kuklinski balances his...

Do you know the real story of Richard Kuklinski, one of the most ruthless contract killers our country has ever seen? Being a Jersey boy living not even a thirty minute drive from New York City, I do, so to say all these events went down in my backyard is an understatement. Sure, he was behind bars before I was even born, but his legacy lived far past his free life. But if seeing these historic events recreated (albeit through Hollywood’s touch) wasn’t enough, none other than heavyweight actor Michael Shannon portrays Kuklinski – a match made in casting heaven. Thankfully, Ariel Vromen’s “based on a true story” film about Richard Kuklinski, The Iceman, was every bit as tantalizing of a crime drama I could ask for, representing one of my favorite movies of the year so far.

Boasting one of the best performances last year in the psychological drama "Take Shelter," Michael Shannon will take a bit of a different turn starring in Ariel Vromen's real-life hitman chronicle "The Iceman."
The project once had a few bigger names surrounding Shannon namely James Franco, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Benicio Del Toro but, as it struggled to get off the ground, it gained a decent cast that includes Ray Liotta, Chris Evans, David Schwimmer and Winona Ryder. The story follows the exploits of Richard Kulinski, one of the most notorious mob hitmen, claiming over 100 kills while keeping his true identity secret from his wife and kids. Schwimmer plays fellow hitman Josh Rosenthal with Liotta as his mob boss Roy Demoe, Ryder as Shannon's unsuspecting wife and Evans as his mentor.

On December 30, 2011 at Ufc 141, Brock Lesnar entered the octagon for the eighth time against Alistair Overeem (36-11). Two minutes, twenty six seconds, and a liver kick later, the fight and Lesnar’s career were over.
In the post-match interview with Rogan, Lesnar humbly declared his retirement after two tough years of illness, surgery, and successive losses. He was an Ncaa champion, a professional wrestler, a failed football player, and now a retired cage fighter.
Its now our job to figure out what Brock and his short, but enigmatic career actually meant.
The Fighter
Brock is a free style wrestler. Or perhaps I should say, “was” because the last time he wrestled competitively prior to joining the Ufc was way back in 2000 when he was an All-American and National Champion for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. And nothing says bad ass like a gopher. Especially the golden ones.

Another day, another casting change on "The Iceman." The film, which was originally set to star James Franco, Benicio Del Toro and Michael Shannon has dropped the first two actors on the way to filming, and has now lost one more esteemed thesp, with another random choice filling in to fill out this pretty bizarre cast. Deadline reports that Winona Ryder will now take over for Maggie Gyllenhaal in the mob killer pic. Co-written (with Morgan Land) and set to be directed by Ariel Vromen, the film follows the exploits of Richard Kulinski (Shannon), one of the most notorious mob hitmen, claiming over 100 kills while keeping his true identity secret from his wife and kids. David Schwimmer will play the killer, Josh Rosenthal, who worked under mobster Roy Demoe (Ray Liotta). Ryder will now play the part of Kulinski's unsuspecting wife with Ryan O'Nan as a "young hustler" who gets caught up in the story.

No, no, Evans isn’t set to play yet another Marvel superhero, this Iceman is slightly different…
Chris Evans is set to star in writer/director Ariel Vromen’s The Iceman, which is based on a true story, adapted from Anthony Bruno’s book, The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. Evan takes over the role following the departure of James Franco earlier this month.
Also cast in the film are David Schwimmer who will play Josh Rosenthal, a contract killer who works for mob boss Roy Demeo (Ray Liotta), Michael Shannon, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ryan O’Nan.

Chris Evans played the space radiated hot-head The Human Torch in The Fantastic Four, but it seems the actor will be playing a much cooler character, – one that lacks super powers. According to Deadline, Chris Evans will be playing a contract killer in The Iceman. In the report, Chris Evans will be playing as Robert Pronge, who was another hitman and Kuklinski’s mentor. Pronge drove an ice cream truck as his cover, taught Kuklinski the use of cyanide, and reportedly asked Kuklinski to kill Pronge’s wife and child.
Previously James Franco was attached to play as Robert Pronge, but he left the project due to scheduling. Now Chris Evans has taken the role and he joins David Schwimmer, who plays Josh Rosenthal, another hit man who works under Kuklinski’s boss Roy Demeo (Ray Liotta).
This is yet another dark role for Evans, who we’ve seen in lighter roles.

He's played the Human Torch, and now Chris Evans will be in The Iceman. This is a movie about a different Iceman, though -- one wholly unrelated to Marvel's mutant supporting character. There are two biopics brewing of Richard 'The Iceman' Kuklinski -- one called The Ice Man: Confessions Of A Mafia Contract Killer, starring Mickey Rourke as the Iceman. Then there is this one, which features Michael Shannon as the hit man, and now boasts Chris Evans in a role once earmarked for James Franco. The news that Franco might be in The Iceman came up around this time last year, when the film was announced at the American Film Market [1]. Earlier this year we heard that Franco was out of the film [2] for "key contractual issues," and that the fate of the film was in danger with him gone. But David Schwimmer was just added [3] to...

[1] Hot off two of the year's most buzzed-about performances in Albert Nobbs and Martha Marcy May Marlene, Glenn Close and Elizabeth Olsen have signed on to star in Thérèse Raquin. Charlie Stratton is writing and directing the erotic thriller, which is based on a 19th century novel and play by Émile Zola. Olsen will lead the cast as the titular young woman, who's pushed into an unhappy marriage by her overbearing aunt (Close). Thérèse eventually falls into a passionate affair with her husband's friend Laurent, with destructive consequences for all involved. Close has reportedly been attached to the film for years, though Olsen's involvement appears to be a recent development. Thérèse Raquin is scheduled to begin shooting this spring. [Entertainment Weekly [2]] After the jump, David Schwimmer gears up to kill people and Saoirse Ronan gets another love interest for The Host. This sounds like a film to look out for. We got a promo poster for The Iceman back in the summer, when Michael Shannon, James Franco, and Benicio del Toro were attached in the leads.
Unfortunately, Franco and del Toro have since had to exit the project, but word now comes via Variety that David Schwimmer is entering the foray in an unusually dark dramatic role for him.
The Iceman is based on a true story, adapted from Anthony Bruno’s book, The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. David Schwimmer might be best known as Ross on Friends, but the actor is looking to branch out dramatically – and his latest role could be the one that makes everyone view him in a new light. Variety says Schwimmer is negotiating to join the cast of The Iceman, Nu Image/Millennium Films’ mob tale chronicling the exploits of real-life hit man Richard Kuklinski. Michael Shannon is cast as Kuklinski – the subject of several HBO documentaries over the years – but Schwimmer would also be playing a Goodfella – fellow killer Josh Rosenthal. Imagining Schwimmer as a cold-blooded murderer is a bit of a stretch, but maybe he’ll surprise us. Should Schwimmer accept the offer to join the cast, he’ll be working alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal, who’s...

He made his name as the neurotic, beleaguered Ross on "Friends" and has been voicing children's cartoons, but David Schwimmer has a dark side, too. He directed the online predator film, "Trust," and now he may be going depraved once again.
According to Variety, Schwimmer is in talks to join the cast of "The Iceman," the indie film about Richard Kuklinski, a prolific east coast contract killer. Shannon will take on the part of Kuklinski, while Schwimmer would play Josh Rosenthal, a killer who works for and worships a mob boss played by Ray Liotta. Maggie Gyllenhaal will play Shannon's wife.
The film recently suffered a high profile loss, when the tireless James Franco actually dropped out of the project. There was speculation that his exit would end up sinking the film, but it looks like things are still moving as scheduled.

When we learned that James Franco wouldn’t take a major role in Ariel Vromen‘s The Iceman, the film quickly became an unsure prospect. Any project losing what’s arguably its biggest actor is always a considerable blow, especially on a smaller one such as this. I even began to worry that this film — which I found myself interested in more and more as time went on — wouldn’t ever go before cameras.
This isn’t a story about a replacement being found, but it’s a sign that things are still happening nonetheless. According to Variety, Friends actor David Schwimmer is in talks to sign on in the role of Josh Rosenthal, an employee for mobster Roy Demeo, played by Ray Liotta. Rosenthal sees Demeo as “a father figure and will do almost anything to impress him.” And by “do almost anything,” they probably mean “will kill almost anybody.
