Richard Lester's A Hard Day's Night is one of the most influential movies of all time, pioneering a genre out of Beatlemania and inventing the language that has proliferated in music videos over the last 50 years. However, most modern music acts don't go down the Hard Day's Night/Spice World route in their cinematic tie-ins and concert documentaries (in 3D!) are more common than narrative features.
If we had to bet on any modern music act reviving the band movie as the Beatles had it, it would be the comedy group The Lonely Island, who first came to prominence through Saturday Night Live's Digital Shorts and have released a catalogue of catchy numbers with hilarious music videos. But for Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, it would have been almost too easy to loosely string together a number of...

The Lonely Island crew send up the Biebers and 1Ds of this world with a sharp spoof popumentary
With this likable comedy, Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, Aka Saturday Night Live’s the Lonely Island, parody the stage-managed promotional popumentaries favoured by the likes of One Direction and Justin Bieber. And the result is as close as we are going to get to a This Is Spinal Tap for the YouTube generation. While it’s not as deliriously funny as Tap, and the story arc is rather more conventional, the music, composed by the Lonely Island trio, is spot on.
Samberg stars as Conner4Real, a preening pop phenomenon who grew bigger than the boyband that spawned him. Of his former group, the Style Boyz, Owen, aka Kid Contact (Taccone), has been relegated to DJing for Conner while wearing an illuminated robot head, and Lawrence, aka Kid Brain (Schaffer), has retired to a farm,...

He plays a zany waterpark manager in The Way, Way Back, but the actor isn't quite the joker his on-screen personas often suggest
• Interview with The Way, Way Back's writer-directors
• First look review: The Way, Way Back
As the best thing in the occasionally appealing, frequently cheesy summer schmaltzfest that is The Way Way Back, Sam Rockwell also delivers the movie's greatest moment. Faced with two kids stuck halfway down a waterslide, Rockwell, in gravelly mock-heroic mode as waterpark manager Owen, stands up to address to the waiting line of gormless boys. "I need a hero," he appeals to the crowd. Then, with impeccable timing, he adds, "I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night."
But Rockwell doesn't even need to borrow the words of Bonnie Tyler to be hilarious. As always, he crackles with comic energy, but with something wild and potentially dangerous flowing underneath.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards were held in the early hours of this morning, and though I unfortunately wasn’t able to watch it, the results are in, courtesy of the Emmys’ own site, with so much great talent being deservedly well recognised.
For those unable to watch the show, you can catch it on Five USA at 10 tonight, with your host for the evening being Jane Lynch, best known for her role as Sue Sylvester in Glee.
We took a look at the nominations last night, as well as some of the awards that had already been announced, with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul McCrane, and Futurama already receiving their awards in an earlier ceremony last weekend.
For now, we shall turn our attention to last night though, and the brilliant winners from the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards are being held in the early hours of tomorrow morning, and so in the run-up to the ceremony, we thought we’d give you a run-down of this year’s nominees.
For those able to watch the show (which is also being shown on Five USA tomorrow night at 10), you can look forward to your host for the evening being Jane Lynch, best known for her role as Sue Sylvester in Glee.
And for those unacquainted with the awards, you can pretty much think of them as the television equivalent to the Oscars, with the Primetime Emmy Awards recognising the best talent in primetime television.
A few of the awards were already presented to the winners at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend, so I’ll do a summary of those categories first, followed by the nominees for tonight’s awards ceremony. There are...

Since our first edition was so popular, AfterElton.com now brings you Part 2 of “Hot Men of Fall TV”, where we take a look at a whole new crop of sexy actors from the upcoming fall season. This bunch is particularly “gay-friendly”, featuring as it does several actors who in many cases made their names portraying gay characters.
It bears mentioning again, however, that the network’s upcoming programs are sadly lacking when it comes to representing actors of color. In a television climate that’s seeing such great strides in the depiction of Glbt characters, we can only hope network executives won’t lose sight of the fact that boosting the number of racial minorities on the small screen remains an important goal.
Michael Arden, The Good Wife (CBS)
Before turning to TV and movies, openly gay actor Michael Arden was a successful Broadway star with a string of well-received performances under his belt.

NBC and Fox have both unleashed their Fall 2011-2012 TV schedule, now ABC has released theirs. I’m excited to see Castle, Modern Family, and The Middle back in the mix. Most of the new shows they have line-up don’t really interest me, but there are a few that have caught my eye. PanAm is another 1960’s based TV show that will go against AMC’s Mad Men and NBC’s The Playboy Club. There’s a show called Revenge that sounds really interesting, but the new series I’m most excited about is is the fantasy series Once Upon A Time, a show where fairy tales collide with the modern day.
Here is ABC’s full schedule along with a description of all of their shows. Go through them below and let us know what TV series you’re most excited about seeing.

Actor Giovanni Ribisi gave U.S. TV audiences a musical treat on Tuesday night when he picked up a guitar to jam with his doppelganger - The Roots bassist Owen Biddle.
The Avatar actor admits he's often mistaken for the musician, who regularly performs with the hitmakers on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where they serve as the house band.
Fallon was quick to point out the facial similarities between Ribisi and Biddle - and he had a second bass ready for Ribisi to pick up and pluck.
Luckily for fans, the actor obliged and strapped on the instrument, playing chords he learned with the You Got Me hitmakers as the show went to commercial break.
