It’s hard to keep track of all the ethical violations depicted in Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife, the new three-part Netflix docuseries whose title suggests a straight-to-cable Nineties TV movie. Some of the sins here on display are, literally, mortal: Paolo Macchiarini, an apparent sociopath, a definite conman, and, worst of all, a surgeon, left a trail of corpses in the wake of his fraudulent stem cell procedures, in which he inserted plastic tracheas into people before even testing them on animals. Others are more venal, if extremely aggravating to journalists.

Exclusive: Netflix is in production on a documentary series about Paolo Macchiarini, a disgraced surgeon convicted of gross assault for implanting artificial windpipes in patients who later died.
Nutopia, the UK production company behind Limitless with Chris Hemsworth and Queen Cleopatra, is producing the three-part series, working titled Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife.
The documentary will spotlight the work of Macchiarini, who set out to revolutionize regenerative medicine in 2011 by implanting plastic windpipes in patients desperate for a cure.
But Macchiarini lied about his research and three of those he treated died, while a fourth later had their artificial windpipe removed.
A Swedish appeals court convicted Macchiarini on Wednesday and sentenced him to two-and-a-half years in prison. He has denied any criminal wrongdoing.
According to Associated Press, the Svea Court of Appeal ruled that two of the three patients who died did not require emergency intervention, while the procedure...

Investigation Discovery (ID) has teamed up with Khloe Kardashian for a docuseries about “Twisted Love” and also greenlit a Jeffrey Epstein special as the first in its upcoming, tentatively titled “Who Killed…” series.
“Who Killed Jeffrey Epstein?” will feature exclusive interviews and in-depth investigations into new clues about their titular subjects. When it comes to Epstein, the project will explore his “seedy underworld, privileged life and controversial death.”
“This story has everything: famous names, wealth, sex, tragedy and suicide — or murder,” said Henry Schleiff, group president of Investigation Discovery, Travel Channel, American Heroes Channel and Destination America. “Indeed, when deaths as high profile as Epstein’s come to light, people have questionsand that is why ID will seek to provide viewers with additional new information — and, perhaps, answers.”
Epstein was first accused of trafficking young women to his Palm Beach estate in 2005 but escaped relatively unscathed from the law enforcement system.

Love & Hate Crime is an upcoming three-part documentary airing on Investigation Discovery. The series looks at hate crime and prejudice in the United States through murders.
Part One scrutinizes the case that eventually becomes the first-ever hate crime conviction arising from the murder of a transsexual woman in Mississippi.
Part Two will explore another Mississippi murder, this time of a gay black man seemingly for kicks, and the consequences to a white girl who was in the truck that mowed him down. Part Three studies the mind of a man who falls for his victim, discovers she's a married lesbian and sets out to end her life.
Each part of the series features film-like quality, and part of that can be attributed to director Ben Steele, known for his Emmy-nominated work on Hunted: The War Against Gays in Russia.
Nothing about the murders is easy to understand. That's especially true of the first two parts,...
