Skye Pelletier (Prey) stars in Many Wounds as Mashka, a young teenager on the cusp of being swallowed up by a colonial system meant to further the goals of assimilation who becomes a warrior to protect his family.

Get ready to dive back into the punk rock sci-fi wasteland of 1984’s Repo Man — a sequel, titled Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer, has been announced, with the original writer and director, Alex Cox, set to return.
The story was first reported by Variety, who confirmed that Cox would be in the director’s chair, with Kiowa Gordon (Twilight) starring as the punk-turned-repo-man, Otto, portrayed by Emilio Estevez in the original. Plot-wise, the new film will pick up right where the original left off, following Otto after a brief trip “across the infinities of time and space,” which has only aged him “exactly 90 minutes.”
According to filmmakers, Repo Man 2 will “deliver an enthralling mix of punk energy, existential comedy, and unconventional storytelling, navigating the absurd and chaotic world of repo men into a new age of nuclear brinkmanship and driverless cars.”

“It’s a mystery… it’s a comedy… it’s a chase… it’s the forces of law against the representatives of discontented youth… against the finest minds in government… and they’re all in pursuit of a ’64 Chevy Malibu from… who knows where,” the original theatrical trailer for 1984’s Repo Man previewed. A fitting description for an oddball cult classic that’s… getting a sequel?!
40 years later, director Alex Cox is returning to the world of Repo Man with sequel Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer, and Indiewire broke the news of the project this week.
According to the site, the upcoming sequel Repo Man 2 will “take place in a world of self-driving cars and an even more pressing threat of global destruction.”
“The advent of incredible technology means, for the repo man, that everything has changed — and nothing has changed,” Cox explained to Indiewire in an email this week.

Alex Cox on Why He’s Directing a ‘Repo Man’ Sequel: ‘Everything Has Changed and Nothing Has Changed’
Alex Cox’s 1984 “Repo Man” was a Reagan-era satire about consumerism and the Atomic Age. Its punk rock soundtrack transformed it into a cult hit, but its funny and strange combination of sci-fi, workplace comedy, and the fear of nuclear annihilation made it an enduring classic.
Forty years later, Cox will revisit the repo man and the world of bland, generic grocery store clerks stocking and selling “Food” and “Beer” day in and day out. He has written and will direct a sequel, “Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer,” and he told IndieWire why this film will embody “the repo world of 2024.”
Cox said “The Wages of Beer” will take place in a world of self-driving cars and an even more pressing threat of global destruction. “The advent of incredible technology means, for the repo man, that everything has changed — and nothing has changed,” he said via email.

Alex Cox is finally getting Repo Man 2 off the ground, and it’s set to be called Repo Man 2: The Wages Of Beer – more here.
It’s been seven years since British director Alex Cox’s last feature – Tombstone Rashomon – was released. But in a surprise piece of news, he’s heading back behind the camera again, for a project he previously tried to get going in the 1990s.
It’s a sequel to his 1984 cult favourite Repo Man, a film that starred Harry Dean Stanton and Emilio Estevez. It’s a satirical science fiction thriller, set in 1960s America, that never set the box office alight, but has earned its audience over time.
Now comes the news that Alex Cox has written the script for Repo Man 2: The Wages Of Beer, that he’s raising funds for at the European Film Market over the next week or so.

Per Variety, Alex Cox is ready to return to the bizarre world of car repossession and extraterrestrials. The outlet reports that the director is set to helm Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer, a long-belated sequel to the 1984 cult classic.
The original movie starred Emilio Estevez as Otto, a young punk who is recruited by a car repossession agency and finds himself in pursuit of a Chevrolet Malibu that is wanted for a $20,000 bounty – and has something otherworldly stashed in its trunk. The sequel will pick up “after Otto has boarded his trusty 1967 Chevy Malibu to journey across the infinities of time and space. In that time, he has aged exactly 90 minutes.” As Estevez is naturally a little too old to reprise the role, Kiowa Gordon has stepped in to play Otto in the sequel.

Alex Cox is getting back behind the wheel.
The “Repo Man” director is revisiting the off-kilter world of extraterrestrials and car repossession that he mined so memorably in the 1984 cult classic in a new sequel that is being introduced to buyers at the Berlin Film Festival and European Film Market. Entitled “Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer,” the film is being backed by Buffalo 8 Productions, a film and media company best known for the critically acclaimed work on Netflix series “The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes.” Cox wrote the script along with directing the film.

Dark Winds is an enjoyable if fairly standard cop drama based on the novels of Tony Hillerman. The chalk and cheese partners Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and FBI agent Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) investigate a series of apparently unrelated crimes. What sets it apart from the crowd is the setting and period: the Navajo Nation of the 1970s.
The action kicks off with a violent bank raid. The thieves make off in a chopper and are flying in the direction of the Navajo Nation when it disappears. FBI agent Leland Whitover (Noah Emmerich) charges Leaphorn with investigating. He also arranges to have Chee seconded into the police force in order to keep an eye on things.
Despite the somewhat formulaic plot - the twist and turns are what you would expect and where you would expect them - the pacing of the narrative makes Dark Winds very watchable.

Dark Winds will have another case to solve at AMC and AMC+.
The hit drama series has been renewed for Dark Winds Season 3.
A renewal was a no-brainer, with the cabler and its streaming sibling previously touting the show's continued success.
Dark Winds Season 2 averaged 1.7 million viewers during its first three days on the linear cable service.
Numbers for AMC+ have not been made available, but the network indicated that it had a strong footprint on the streaming service as the series aired.
Episodes were made available before their debuts on the service, so there was an incentive for fans to watch it earlier.
"We started this journey with very high hopes for this series, given the remarkable source material and extraordinary creative team behind it, and it has delivered on every level," said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks.

AMC is heading into more Dark Winds.
The cable network has renewed the crime drama for a third season, coming a couple of weeks after season two finished its run.
The series is planned to premiere in early 2025, a noticeable shift from the summer premiere of its first two seasons, but understandable given the writers and actors strike.
It comes after Dark Winds made its debut on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max service as part of a two-month pop-up.
Dark Winds stars Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon and Jessica Matten.
The first season of the series, which is produced by AMC Studios, drew 2.2M viewers on AMC for its June 2022 launch in Live+3 ratings. The company said that the second season averaged 1.7M viewers each week in Live+3, per Nielsen and saw “significant” viewership and acquisition gains from season one on AMC+.

Leaphorn and Chee will remain on the case at AMC.
The cable channel and sibling streamer AMC+ have renewed Dark Winds for a third season. The pickup comes about three weeks after the conclusion of the drama’s second season, which ranks among the top 10 cable dramas for this season. AMC is aiming for an early 2025 premiere date for season three, with writing and production to resume after strikes by writers and actors come to an end.
Based on the Leaphorn & Chee novels by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds — which was an effort some 30 years in the making — stars Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon as Navajo detectives Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee and counts Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin among its executive producers.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Dark Winds, Season 2, Episode 6, “Hózhó náhásdlįį.”] Dark Winds‘ second season has come to a close but there are plenty of loose threads yet to be woven for Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and friends following the finale episode. Discovering that their two investigations overlap, Leaphorn and Chee (Kiowa Gordon) connect the dots, tying the mine explosion that killed Leaphorn’s son directly to B.J. Vines (John Diehl). Despite being arrested, B.J. is quickly released due to his wealth and standing in the community. As a result, Leaphorn shows up at the man’s home, and at gunpoint gets him into his truck where they drive out into the desert. Once there, Joe gets B.J. to step out into the cold and unforgiving landscape. Instead of shooting the man, he tells him to walk, noting its similarity to The Long Walk experienced by the Navajo. Ultimately, B.J. dies...

This article contains spoilers for Dark Winds season 2.
The acclaimed AMC+ neo-noir series Dark Winds, created by Graham Roland and based on the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman, has just wrapped its second season. Going deeper, darker, and more violent than its inaugural season, Dark Winds places protagonist Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) on a more personal and grueling gauntlet that leads him to journey through his own heart of darkness. This isn’t to say that the second season is an introspective story, the season kicks off with a literal bang, but it does strike particularly closer to home for Leaphorn.
Drawing elements from Hillerman’s 1980 novel People of Darkness, the second season starts out with its two leads investigating different cases before inevitably bringing them back together. Early in the new season of Dark Winds, a wealthy woman hires Jim Chee to help recover a lockbox that was stolen from her home. A skeptical Chee says that the job sounds simple, “Except nothing ever is.”
You definitely cannot call Dark Winds Season Two simple. It features a pair of mysteries that inevitably connect in complicated ways that can at times require intense concentration to follow. Just as importantly, the series is even more ambitious in its depiction of life, death, and policing on a Navajo reservation in the early Seventies.

Starz might just be the hottest ticket in town this summer. In the wake of “Minx’s” triumphant return last week comes the long-awaited second season of the professional wrestling drama “Heels,” which is quietly one of TV’s best shows.

Zahn McClarnon loves that you love Dark Winds, the 1970s-set crime/mystery drama that returns with Season 2 this Thursday (on AMC+) and Sunday at 9/8c (on AMC proper).
The warm reception that Dark Winds Season 1 received last summer from viewers and critics alike “was not necessarily a surprise to me, but I was very happy that people enjoyed watching the show,” McClarnon told TVLine during a late-June Zoom. “I mean, it’s difficult to put together a television show.
