Skin Kligman director Ronni Thomas, executive producer Frank Szelwach, and star/screenwriter Matt ‘Ugly’ McGlade with Anne-Katrin Titze on screening in Nova Express at London’s Raindance Film Festival: “The program it’s in at Raindance is the perfect thing for it. If you’re doing a short film you should take chances.”
Ronni Thomas’s vital short, Skin Kligman, starring screenwriter Matt ‘Ugly’ McGlade with Jackie Martling as Kligman, executive produced by Frank Szelwach, is a wake-up call for awareness of what is and what is not “informed consent” and what is the real cost of your vanity. In a wide-ranging discussion we touched upon the puppets created by Geppetto Studios for the film; the experiments conducted behind the walls of the Holmesburg Prison; chiseling down the story, and the call for new voices by David Cronenberg’s longtime producer Jeremy Thomas. Strong opinions on Hollywood-type films such as...

Dekanalog announced today its acquisition of Sabrina Mertens‘ dark, methodical drama Time of Moulting, which wowed audiences at Rotterdam, Fantasia, and Nightstream 2020.
“It started off innocent enough for Stephanie, a vibrant kid stuck living with an aloof father and a mean, bedridden mother, neither of whom let their daughter do anything outside of their quaint 1970s Germany household.
“Over ten lonely, isolated years, Stephanie’s mind gradually veers towards darker thoughts — and inevitably, troubling habits and actions. Impressively made as a film school project, Sabrina Mertens’ patient and chilling debut explores the ways in which innocence can turn into something sinister.”
The film, which also stars Freya Kreutzkam, and Bernd Wolf, is set for a Spring 2023 release in the U.S.
The deal was negotiated by George Schmalz of Dekanalog and Cinthya Calderon of Media Luna.

A long-lost piece of film history has been uncovered. Walter Saxer, who produced such Werner Herzog classics as Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo, and Nosferatu, made his sole directorial effort with Sepa: Nuestro Señor de los Milagro (Sepa: Our Lord of Miracles), which observes the open-air penal colony of the same name, created in 1951 by the Peruvian government in the Amazonian jungle.
Completed in 1986 and having screened only once––on Swiss television in the late 1980s––Sepa then faded from cinema history, its sole print existing in a residential closet in Italy. After a chance encounter with Dekanalog’s George Schmalz and Lysa Le, who visited Saxer’s Peruvian bed and breakfast in 2017, a conversation was started about unearthing and restoring the film negative, allowing his picture the release it always deserved.
Dekanalog will now open Sepa in theaters on October 14 and we’re pleased to exclusively debut its first trailer.
