Dwayne Johnson has been busy with his return to the WWE and seems to have taken a break from his acting career. While the actor will be next seen in this year’s Moana 2 in a voice role, Johnson has yet to announce a large-scale blockbuster as he has not seen a hit in the past few years.
Johnson’s last film role was in the Dceu film Black Adam, which turned out to be a box-office disaster. The film saw him finally enter the DC universe after years of speculation but the film ended up being a failure. However, the actor has now been rumored to have been offered a place in the MCU and if insider information is to be believed, he will be playing a popular X-Men villain.

After making his name in the wrestling industry, Dwayne Johnson finally decided to try his hand at acting and The Mummy Returns (2001) helped his dreams become a reality. Unfortunately, the role given to him was not what his fans would have imagined at all. Dwayne Johnson played the role of The Scorpion King, an unintentionally hilarious CGI demigod.
Dwayne Johnson in the prologue of The Mummy Returns
While the character was supposed to be intimidating, viewers couldn’t help but spare a laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. A giant scorpion with Dwayne Johnson’s face? There’s no way the audience was going to have nightmares about this. However, the horrible presentation of the character was not Dwayne Johnson’s fault.
Why Was Dwayne Johnson’s Scorpion King So Laughable? Dwayne Johnson’s CGI Scorpion King
The Mummy Returns marked Dwayne Johnson’s entry into the film industry and how.

If there's one thing I've learned from watching countless horror movies and episodes of "Scooby-Doo," it's that you don't mess with mummies. It's a superstition that's held so strong over the years that even when visiting museums, I tend to respectfully steer clear of the ancient Egypt exhibits. Myths about the latent powers of mummified royals have been around for ages, and many of them have been unfortunately influenced by stereotype-heavy depictions of Egypt and surrounding African and Middle Eastern cultures. Regardless of how much the world now knows about ancient Egyptian burial rituals, when most American moviegoers picture a mummy in their mind's eye these days, they're as likely to think about a Universal Pictures movie monster as they are the real thing.

While the names Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan have been suplexed by controversy lately, it’s impossible to ignore how popular they had made the WWE, then WWF, back in the ’80s and ’90s. In 1989, the maniacal McMahon had a genius idea to make Hogan, already a megastar and the longtime world champion, even bigger. Let’s make him the biggest Hollywood actor, too! Enter No Holds Barred, Hulk Hogan’s first starring movie role and the first movie/wrestling crossover event ever! Oh, and did I mention it featured Friday favorite Tom “Tiny” Lister as the mega heel? Damn right. Let’s go!

Finally! A movie coming to theaters that should unite us all and bring in some solid box office dollars. But enough about the George Clooney/ Julia Roberts Rom-Com Ticket To Paradise, there is also a big tent pole sized comic book film hitting screens this weekend by way of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.
Dwayne Johnson’s first stab at comic book immortality will easily grab the top spot this weekend, the only question is how high, or low, will it go. Right now tracking has this opening between 65 and 70 million. To play it safe, I can’t really argue with those numbers. This is the first major big screen action film to be released since Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train or if we are really being honest, since Thor: Love and Thunder dropped all the way back on July 8. That type of anticipation for a movie that demands the...

John Travolta and Bruce Willis reunite after their limited shared screen time in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. Both stars were prolific action icons in the 90s, and for some time now, both have had second careers with straight-to-video type movies with an occasional theatrical release. Their re-pairing comes in the new film Paradise City.
Scenic locations in Hawaii serve as the settings in Paradise City. So, there’s no doubt that the grass is green and the girls are pretty. People has reported on the release of the trailer, which proudly boasts that the film is “John Travolta vs. Bruce Willis.” Willis looks to be more of a presence in this more than his other recent credited films, although it looks as if a small ensemble will help him carry the load. He’s joined by Stephen Dorff, Blake Jenner, and Praya Lundberg.
The official synopsis reads,

Optimism is growing around Warner Bros./DC’s “Black Adam,” the first superhero film for lead star Dwayne Johnson. Rival distributors and analysts tell TheWrap that the first round of box office tracking has the blockbuster earning an opening weekend of over 70 million, which would be the highest opening weekend the industry has seen since Disney/Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder” three months ago.
Johnson has been seen for years as one of the few remaining movie stars that could drive box office numbers on his own, but “Black Adam” is new territory for him, placing him in the lead role of a film that’s part of one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises. If it does meet or exceed tracking, “Black Adam” would set a new career record for Johnson in a lead role.

Given the wonky marketplace, studios haven’t been really bullish about putting advance box office projections out there. No one wants to get over their skis. However, New Line’s DC Dwayne Johnson movie Black Adam is tracking to a 65M-70M opening according to industry sources.
Black Adam opens on Oct. 21, and it’s the first major tentpole we’ve had since Sony’s Bullet Train during the first weekend in August. That pic just crossed 100M.
The pic is very hot on tracking now, like a one-eyed giant in the land of the blind. Meaning there’s nothing else like it right now. The movie is strong with guys over and under 25, then women under 25, Latino and Hispanic moviegoers and families. If the pic exceeds 68.1M in its domestic start, it becomes Johnson’s best solo opening after 2001’s The Mummy Returns in which he had a cameo as The Scorpion King.

When he transitioned from the squared circle to the silver screen, Dwayne Johnson built his Hollywood pedigree playing good guys with a tough exterior and a just as solid moral code. Of course, one has to overlook his villainous early turn as The Scorpion King in “The Mummy Returns” for that narrative to work. Now, Johnson returns to ancient super-villainy, or at least anti-heroism, in DC Film‘s upcoming blockbuster “Black Adam,” and he cannot wait to don the mantle.

[Editor’s note: The following story contains spoilers for “Nope.”]
Filmmaker Jordan Peele may love putting his characters through hell, but he’s also just as delighted to bring them back through it, ending his thrillers and chillers with vaguely happy endings.
Such was the case with his breakout debut, “Get Out,” which sees stars Daniel Kaluuya and Lil Rel Howrey surviving a series of horrifying attacks, racist revelations, and enough nightmare material to basically make sure they (and probably the audience) never set foot in a stranger’s home ever again. But their survival was never assured, as Peele originally envisioned a very different ending for the pair.
For his third film, the UFO horror outing “Nope,” Peele again decided to make his primary characters not just survivors, but living, breathing, alien-butt-kicking heroes. The film ends after the trio not only manage to a) record the saucer-shaped alien wrecking havoc on their small desert community but b) bring the damn thing down,...
