Longtime friend and “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” producer Mike Kaplan confirmed Hodges’ passing on December 20. Hodges died of heart failure December 17 at his home in Dorset, England. He is survived by his wife Carol Laws, two sons Ben and Jake Hodges, and five grandchildren.
Hodges helmed gangster thriller novel adaptation “Get Carter,” which starred Michael Caine as hitman Jack Carter who investigates a pornography ring involved in his brother’s murder. The 1971 neo-noir film was named one of the 100 best British films of all-time by Sight and Sound magazine in 1999.
Hodges and Caine formed production company Three Michaels along with “Get Carter” producer Michael Klinger. The trio returned for 1972’s “Pulp,” with Caine playing a bodice-ripper novelist hired by a former actor (Mickey Rooney) to ghostwrite his autobiography.

Melbourne, Nov 10 (Ians) Melbourne Renegades have completed their Big Bash League (Bbl) 10 roster with the signing of South African batsman Rilee Rossouw.
Rossouw will be available for the full Bbl season and joins fellow overseas signings Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad and Imran Tahir on the Renegades roster.
"The Big Bash has been a high-quality competition for a long time now, so I'm very excited to get the opportunity to play in such a competitive league," Rossouw said.
"I've enjoyed playing in Australian conditions before so I'm looking forward to heading over there and helping the Renegades have a successful season. Hopefully towards the back end of the tournament we can play in front of a home crowd in Melbourne because I've heard the Renegades have a very passionate supporter base and I'd love to experience that," he added.

A spoof? A black comedy? Michael Hodges and Michael Caine’s hardboiled ‘foreign intrigue’ comedy lays on the movie references and clever dialogue, going the distance in the arcane, hipster-noir subgenre. Caine is always good in that mode, and Mickey Rooney gets a supporting role that can only be called bizarre.
