Justin Timberlake could be returning to Apple’s TV screen. The streaming service has won an auction to develop a series based on former “Gong Show” host Chuck Barris’ memoir “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” with Timberlake attached to star as Barris, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Apple is looking to develop the project as a one-hour drama.
In Barris’ 1984 memoir, he claimed that his game show career — he also created “The Dating Game” and “The Newlywed Game” — was a cover for his real job as a CIA assassin. The book has already been adapted once before in a 2002 movie, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” that George Clooney directed with Sam Rockwell playing Barris.
Miramax, which produced the movie, will co-produce the series with Paramount Television Studios. David Hollander will executive produce and serve as showrunner, with Jon Worley writing the script.

Exclusive: Eager to bring Justin Timberlake back into the Apple TV + fold after the strong results of the Fisher Stevens-directed dramatic film Palmer in January, Apple won an auction and acquired the script to develop an hour-long drama series that will have Timberlake playing Gong Show host Chuck Barris. The untitled series will be based on Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, a 1984 memoir in which Barris made suspect claims that being the zany Gong Show host and creator of game shows like The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game was cover for his real job: CIA assassin who took out enemies of the state in the 1960s and 1970s. The book was turned into a film that George Clooney directed with Sam Rockwell playing Barris.
The show is a co-production between Miramax (which released the 2002 film) and Paramount Television Studios. Ray Donovan EP David Hollander will be Executive Producer and showrunner,...

Is Dude Bro Party Massacre III the first Oscar worthy film of the year? In short, yes.
Created as what seemed like a dare by the online comedy group, 5-Second Films, this retro 80′s slasher flick harkens back to a simpler, blood-splattered time, when sex and violence worked hand-in-hand and fraternity jocks in tight shorts would high-five each other and take showers together without a hint of erotic irony. The story is told as sort of a “lost film”. It goes like this; President Regan had the film banned and all copies destroyed. Only one public broadcast station played the movie late at night...

The rise of the internet has opened up another avenue for creative forces to distribute their output and gain fans, and comedy has been no exception. One of the groups that has successfully taken advantage of the new medium is the comedy troupe 5secondfilms. Built on the concept of making and releasing a comedic short that’s 5 seconds or less every weekday, the group has found themselves working with luminaries such as Andrew Wk, Weird Al Yankovic, Doug Benson, and Patton Oswalt, while finding wider success themselves, with troupe member Jon Worley now a writer for the critically acclaimed FX show Justified. While the group has, however, made some longer films, they have never moved past the short film format. With their next effort, however, the troupe is intent on breaking into the feature film world, expanding the popular mock trailer for Dude Bro Party Massacre 3 into a full length film.

Spoiler Alert! This week’s episode of Justified, written by Jon Worley and Benjamin Cavell and directed by Adam Arkin, had a happy ending for Dewey (Damon Herriman) and an emotional twist for Raylan (Timothy Olyphant). As we’ll be doing each week throughout the season, we asked exec producer Graham Yost to take us inside the writers room.
Entertainment Weekly: You let Dewey live!
Graham Yost: Yes, of course. That was your big concern last time we talked, wasn’t it?
It was. Was there ever any discussion of him not making it through this episode?
No. No.

Justified, Season 3, Episode 5: “Thick as Mud”
Written by Jon Worley and Benjamin Cavell
Directed by Adam Arkin
Airs Tuesdays at 10pm Et on AMC
As the episode’s title implies, Justified gets dense, tricky and seriously murky this week, in what’s probably the strongest outing yet of the new season. The show has gotten downright artful about blending episodic case-of-the-week plots and serialized elements, and that sense of balance was more evident in “Thick as Mud” than maybe any other episode; it’s easy to imagine a new viewer getting swept up in Dewey Crowe’s apparent ticking-clock scenario (which helps to make this episode feel like a miniature, self-contained crime feature) without feeling too lost, but the episode also advances quite a few narrative threads in significant ways, not to mention featuring a number of significant callbacks.
First things first: hats off to Damon Herriman, since this...
