Update, with video Comedian Bob Saget gave one of his final interviews to CBS News’ chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon Lapook last month, and the talk aired today on CBS Mornings.
Watch the interview above.
In the interview, which was taped Dec. 6, Saget speaks to Lapook about losing his sister in 1994 to scleroderma, a connective tissue disease. Saget explains how humor and performing helped him cope with the grief, saying, “It was a defense mechanism, and it truly helped me survive.”
Saget, who starred in television’s Full House and hosted American’s Funniest Home Videos, died Jan. 9 in his room at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Orlando, Florida (he had performed in nearby Ponte Vedra Beach the previous evening). Although a cause of death has not yet been determined, a Florida medical examiner has ruled out drugs or foul play.
Lapook’s interview with Saget aired Friday, Jan. 14, on CBS Mornings.

Broadway’s recent and ongoing surge in Covid cancellations is one of those shocking but not surprising things – New Yorkers knew instinctively since theaters reopened in September that disappointment was always just a cough away. Still, the spate of cancellations – with, it must be repeated, only one permanent closing to date – is disheartening to say the least.
So why now? And what now? Is there anything else Broadway should be doing to lessen the impact of the Omicron variant? The Broadway League has indicated that another industry-wide shutdown is not being considered, and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio stated bluntly this week, “No more shutdowns.”
At the moment, Broadway is battling Covid with various weapons – testing, vaccinations, masks, filtration – and while the approach is more rigorous than what can be found in other industries, the fight doesn’t always seem to reflect a unified front. While all theater workers and audiences must be double-vaxxed,...

With Seth Rudetsky resuming his Off Broadway solo show and also returning this Sunday to his acclaimed series of livestream special-guest concerts, one is tempted to begin an article like this by playing on the ubiquitous “Broadway’s Back!” slogan. But “Rudetsky’s Back!” doesn’t work. He never really went away.
During the entire Broadway shutdown, when it seemed just about everyone had gone into hibernation, Rudetsky and husband James Wesley kept the lights on through their very popular, very effective and very busy Stars in the House livestream series, raising well more than $1 million for The Actors Fund’s pandemic efforst by, among other things, reuniting Broadway casts from Annie and Dreamgirls to Jagged Little Pill and Beetlejuice.

On March 16, 2020, Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley launched “Stars In The House” in response to what they knew would be an immediate need for funds in light of the Broadway shutdown.
Now, one year and over 375 episodes later, “Stars In The House” has raised over $715,000 for The Actors Fund, and an additional $200,000 for other charity organizations who have needed support throughout the pandemic.
“We can’t believe it has been a year! We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of our viewers, who send in donations from all over the world,” said Rudetsky and Wesley. “We thought that after the first few weeks, contributions would dwindle and the show would be more about bringing some joy and positivity during these dark times. But the fact that we have been able to do both – deliver fun and financial support – is beyond our wildest dreams. We are so grateful to our team behind the scenes,...

A former sports doctor accused of molesting several girls while working for USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University pleaded guilty to seven charges of criminal sexual conduct on Wednesday.
Larry Nassar entered the plea during a hearing in Michigan's Ingham County on Wednesday. Nassar, 54, was charged with molesting seven girls, all but one of whom were gymnasts, mostly under the guise of treatment at his Lansing-area home and a campus clinic. He faces lawsuits filed by more than 125 women and girls.
Nassar asked to make a statement and said he was pleading guilty to help the community begin to heal.
"For all those involved, [I'm] so horribly sorry," Nassar said. "This was like a match that turned into a forest fire, out of control. And I pray the rosary everyday for forgiveness ... I want them to heal. I want this community to heal. I have no animosity toward anyone. I just want healing. It's time."
