- One of the few all-time great fast bowlers who was less than 6 feet tall.
- Was ranked #16 by ESPN in its 2000 countdown of Legends Of Cricket.
- When he died prematurely aged just 41, ESPN Cricinfo in its obituary wrote "In an era of great West Indian fast bowlers, he was the greatest. He bowled superbly on wickets the world over. Brutally fast and ruthlessly accurate, Marshall is unarguably one of the greatest cricketers of all-time".
- Dismissed two of the greatest batsmen of his generation, namely India's Sunil Gavaskar(ten times) and Australia's Allan Border(eleven times), a combined 21 times. However, he also regarded Border as the best batsman he witnessed.
- At a time when the West Indies Team dominated world cricket, courtesy of their longline of brilliant fast bowlers, Marshall was undisputedly the best of them all.
- In 2001, Wisden voted Marshall as the 7th greatest test bowler of all-time.
- Holds the West Indian record for most number of wickets taken in a single test series. He took 35 wickets in 5 tests during the 1988 tour of England.
- His final tally of 376 test wickets was the 4th highest in test history at the time of his retirement after New Zealand's Sir Richard Hadlee, India's Kapil Dev and England's Sir Ian Botham. It remained a West Indian record until surpassed by Courtney Walsh during the tour of South Africa in 1998-99.
- Was selected to make his test debut during the 1978-79 tour of India due to the defection of star pacers Michael Holding and Andy Roberts to World Series Cricket and on their return was out of the side for 2 years before making a comeback after strong performances for Hampshire in English County Cricket.
- Of all the 5 test playing nations he toured, Marshall's bowling average went over 25 and failed to pick a 5-wicket haul in only New Zealand. However, Marshall played only 3 of his 50 overseas tests in the country.
- The cumulative batting average of all his 376 test scalps amounts to 30.49 in sharp contrast to his own bowling average of 20.94, which meant that Marshall discounted batsmen by over 31% of their actual scoring capacities.
- His son Mali played him in the 2021 Bollywood sports film 83, dedicated to India's miraculous victory in the finals of the 1983 World Cup at Lord's over defending champions and undisputed number one ranked West Indies team of the time.
- On its 150th Anniversary, Marshall was selected as a specialist fast bowler in the Wisden Cricket Almanck's All-time Greatest XI in 2013.
- In the opening test of the 1983-84 tour of India at Kanpur, an ultra fast delivery from Marshall sprang premier batsman Sunil Gavaskar's bat out of his hands. Marshall ended up picking 4 wickets in each innings and was declared Man-of-the-Match as West Indies won the test by an innings margin. The news headline in Times Of India highlighting the event read "It's Marshall Law in Kanpur".
- Although he surpassed fellow pace legend Dennis Lillee on almost all parameters, particularly performances by country, Marshall regarded the Australian as his favorite fast bowler.
