Former X Factor judge Cheryl has explained why she doesn’t think the talent series should return.
The singer, 39, first appeared on the judging panel of the ITV talent show in 2008, before stepping down in 2011.
She returned in 2017 to assist former fellow judge and series producer Simon Cowell in the judges’ houses part of the competition. The show ran for one more series, and was officially cancelled by ITV in 2021.
Despite this, Cowell claimed in November 2022 that a future reboot is “more likely than not”.
When asked about this in a new interview with The Independent, Cheryl suggested Cowell would “struggle to admit” the talent contest had run its course, because it’s his “baby”.
“I don’t know if the public want it anymore,” she said.
“We had Pop Idol before that, then Popstars, then us,” the singer continued, referring to Popstars: The Rivals, the series that launched her...

The race to be top of the British singles chart at Christmas has been an annual event every December since 1952.
On Friday 23, LadBaby broke a record they were previously tied for with The Beatles, achieving their fifth consecutive Christmas No 1.
The Beatles had been top of the tree since 1967 with a record four Christmas number ones, although that was equalled last year when LadBaby claimed their fourth win in four years with an offering called “Sausage Rolls for Everyone”.
LadBaby have now vaulted to the top with their fifth No 1, “Food Aid”.
The Spice Girls also notched an impressive three consecutive victories in the mid-Nineties, while Sir Cliff Richard also has a hat-trick to his name.
LadBaby, Aka Mark and Roxanne Hoyle, are actually having another crack at it in 2022, with the help of ever popular money-saving guru Martin Lewis, who, rather suprisingly, is joining them for a chairty cover...

Olly Murs has compared his time on The X Factor to the dystopian film and book series The Hunger Games.
The “Heart Skips A Beat” singer appeared on the ITV singing competition in 2009, when he came in second place to Joe McElderry. Stacey Solomon was their fellow finalist.
Appearing on Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast on Wednesday (14 December), Murs spoke about his experience on the show and explained that he hasn’t been in much contact with his fellow contestants.
“It was really hard,” the 38-year-old said. “I don’t know why we don’t keep in contact. And it’s a good question. I don’t know why. We just all went off on our own little paths and did our own thing.

Joe McElderry has spoken out about the possibility of The X Factor returning to screens and noted ways he hopes a new run will be different for the contestants.
McElderry won the sixth season of the singing competition show in 2009 before scoring a number one single with his cover of Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb”.
In the years since, the show has been accused of being “cruel” and “manipulative”. The X Factor was officially cancelled in 2021.
When asked about rumours of the programme’s possible return, McElderry offered a suggestion for a new season to improve on those in the past.
“I hope if it does come back, they do make some more changes to make it a bit more of a safe space for artists in terms of the way the contracts are formed and the aftercare of the artists and things like that,” he told the hosts on...

Joe McElderry would ''love'' to do 'Strictly Come Dancing.' The 'X Factor' alumni - who won the 2009 series of the ITV talent show - is keen to snag a gig on the BBC celebrity Ballroom and Latin show in the near future because, in his mind, he thinks he can move like Beyoncé. He explained: ''I'd love to do 'Strictly'. I'm a creative dancer, so I'd love to do that. That would be an amazing one to be a part of. I mean I'm not a brilliant dancer, but in my head I think I am Beyoncé.'' Elsewhere, the 24-year-old singer...

Now, thanks to Reddit, everyone in the world will hear you belting out the chorus of Queen's "Somebody to Love" all alone at a concert put on by X-Factor winner Joe McElderry. You sound so, so alone. It also sounds like you realized halfway through that no one else was singing but couldn't stop yourself? You belong to the ages now, anonymous audience member. We will tell your stooooooryyyyy.

The X Factor has been honoured with the Media Recognition Award at this year's Attitude Awards.
The accolade was given to the ITV series for "proudly showcas[ing] many talented Lgbt singers" during its 10-year run.
"The likes of Joe McElderry, Lucy Spraggan, Rylan Clark, Jaymi Hensley and, erm, Diva Fever have all been welcomed into viewers' hearts during The X Factor's 10-year run, and the show's contribution to Lgbt visibility shouldn't be underestimated," Attitude said.
"As well as new judge Nick Grimshaw, the current series has already thrown up a handful of varied Lgbt talent including the very unique Seann Miley Moore, who auditioned in a leather skirt and admitted, 'Music has allowed me to be me. If it makes you feel happy and right, then do it'. Amen!"

Ever get a feeling of déjà vu while you're watching The X Factor? That's because after 11 series and hundreds of contestants, the live shows have seen a whopping 728 tracks performed so far. But like a wedding DJ reaching for his failsafe party anthems CD, the top five most popular songs have been dusted off and rolled out over 33 times between them.
Our geeky rules state that we're counting all live show performances and group songs, but not repeat performances from the same act in the same series.
=5. 'Feeling Good': 6 performances
Performed by: Beverley Trotman, Rachel Hylton, Stacey Solomon, James Arthur, Rebecca Ferguson, Andrea Faustini
Made famous by Nina Simone, this classic usually pops up in the traditional 'Big Band Week', and is a good excuse for an act to show off their sultry side. Stacey had a go with Michael Bublé in 2009, while Andrea tried out a more powerhouse version last year.

The X Factor isn't only about the wide-eyed hopefuls with ambition/potential/comedy value. Ready to cheerily steal their thunder are a revolving door of well-established musical guests who give a special performance during the live shows.
Only the best of the best are ever offered this prime opp, though, so after more deliberation than Cheryl picking who to save (including a cry of "ah cannae choose between 'em!"), we present the seven who most definitely made the cut.
1. Rihanna – Diamonds
Ri-Ri's such a regular fixture she almost has her own fridge shelf at the X Factor Wembley studios. Her performances are generally quite strange – involving everything from hanging out on hairdryers to surreal food fights – but we were totally transfixed when she premiered 'Diamonds'. The voice! The rain! The high drama! We need a sit-down after that.
2. Bruno Mars – Locked Out Of Heaven

Joe McElderry has said that The X Factor should have a "fresh" host following Dermot O'Leary's departure.
The 23-year-old, who won the ITV show in 2009, was asked by Digital Spy whether he thought rumoured new presenter Olly Murs would be a good choice.
"I think it would be really good for them to get somebody fresh that's never been associated with the show before," said McElderry, who tipped Davina McCall as a fitting new host.
"I think that would bring a whole new dynamic. But then again, I think Sarah-Jane Crawford - who presented The Xtra Factor - I think she's really good and really fun."
The singer, who is currently touring the UK with his Evolution tour, added: "It would be nice to see a woman present the show, and I absolutely love Davina McCall.

Two Overs in The X Factor Grand Finale. Who'd-a-thunk it?
Fleur East and Ben Haenow have beaten off Jack Walton, Stereo Kicks and Stevi Ritchie (oh, behave!) to make it to Wembley tonight.
And although we won't be seeing Andi Peters at the CD printing press (more for shame), we can expect more Louis Walsh, celebratory sausages and One Direction.
Crack out the eggnog and join Digital Spy as we await the news of whether Fleur or Ben will follow the illustrious steps of Shayne Ward, Steve Brookstein and Leon Jackson to take The X Factor crown.
Even more exciting than that, we're also hoping for an update on whether Labrinth ever had his wisdom teeth out...

We're down to our final three on The X Factor - Andrea, Ben, and Fleur, in case you've somehow missed the news - and the final is just days away. Days. But of course the one thing we all want to know is what the winner's single will be - is it going to be a surprise triumph or a horrific failure?

10. 'Hallelujah' - Alexandra Burke
One thing we discovered when we began this ranking is that the quality of the winner's single is no reflection of the quality of the artist. Take this monstrosity. Alexandra is obviously hugely talented and could have had an amazing first record.

Jake Quickenden has been confirmed to be entering the jungle in ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
Just four weeks ago, Jake was singing as a finalist in The X Factor before being the fifth act to be eliminated from the competition.
This got us thinking. This must be the quick(enden)est time that an X Factor finalist has found themselves on a different reality TV show so far - but which other acts traded series after attempting to secure a contract with Syco? Here they all are in order of time taken to do so.
1. Jake Quickenden (4 weeks)
Series: 2014
Finished: 12th
After reaching the Judges' Houses in 2012, Quickenden made it to the final 16 this year. He tried desperately to prove that he wasn't just a pretty face with a ripped physique, but it hasn't taken him long to get his kit off for his pre-I'm a Celebrity photoshoot.

Fame Academy may only have lasted two series, but boy, did it burn bright. And even though it was over ten years ago that it was on our screens, we're still belting out David Sneddon's utter tune 'Stop Living The Lie' at our DS karaoke sessions.

Bruce Forsyth has spoken about quitting Strictly Come Dancing, admitting that another series would leave him "mentally and physically" shattered.
The 86-year-old, who will be replaced by Claudia Winkleman, has hosted the show since it began in 2004.
Speaking to The Sun, Forsyth said: "You do start to feel a bit stale, like a bit of fruit you've put in a bowl. You look at it one day and think, 'Oh - that's going off'.
"There are many reasons why I packed it in, but one was that I didn't want to do this series and suddenly in the middle of the show say, 'I can't do it any more'. I would have hated that."
Claiming to work as hard as the dancers, Forsyth said that he knew the previous series would be his last when it came to an end.

The Jump has been praised by Channel 4's chief creative officer Jay Hunt.
Speaking to The Guardian, Hunt explained that she is keen to renew the celebrity winter sports show for a second series.
The show, hosted by Davina McCall and Alex Brooker, saw a number of famous faces taking part in games such as bobsleigh, skating and skiing, with Joe McElderry named the eventual winner.
The series - filmed in Austria - was plagued with injuries, as stars including Sir Steve Redgrave, Marcus Brigstocke, Melinda Messenger and Henry Conway were forced to pull out of the competition.
However, Hunt has now explained that she believes the show was "the first time [Channel 4 has] had a big pre-watershed hit for quite a long time".
"It's hard to think what is our pre-watershed tone of voice," she said. "There is a gravitational pull at [Channel] 4 towards the edgy, the difficult and the rude.

Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote flirts with Joe Swash, admitting that she "likes a ginge", in an exclusive clip from the new episode of Fake Reaction.
The Katy Armstrong actress catches the eye of team captain Swash after he jokingly suggests a threesome with fellow guest Jeff Brazier.
Though she declines to commit to the proposal, Foote later reassures Swash that she would rather date him than Brazier, stating: "I do like a ginge."

It's alright - we can all breathe a sigh of relief. The Jump is over, though sadly we cannot say that no celebrities were harmed in the making of this show. Because lots were. Lots and lots and lots.
When Digital Spy visited the set of Channel 4's luminary-lashing reality series just before Christmas - as the stars were in their first days of ski jump training - we made a joke on the plane about the broadcaster needing to have a lot of insurance. Looking back, that was either prescient or just in really bad taste.
Let's look at the numbers. Tara Palmer-Tomkinson pulled out before the show began, apparently because it "wasn't for her". That may have been one of the best decisions Tpt has ever made, ever, because shortly afterwards, and before one second had even aired on television, Sam Jones (Flash Gordon!) was forced to withdraw after injuring his shoulder.

The X Factor winner - who came in as a replacement for injured Henry Conway - jumped his way to victory (and a giant cowbell) last night, beating Donal MacIntyre and picking up his third reality show victory.
Joe - who revealed that he spent the night celebrating by singing Oliver! and The Sound of Music with the other contestants - got on the phone to reporters this morning admitting he was "feeling a little bit hungover". But he told us all about his journey, getting roped into the show while on holiday, what he's going to do with his cowbell and why he feared for his life on the series. Read on to find out about that and much more...

The former 'X Factor' star - who replaced Henry Conway in Channel 4's winter sports competition - was delighted that he managed to pull off a 17.5m jump from a 40m ski ramp, beating Donal MacIntyre who only managed 13.5m. Following his win he gushed: ''I have had an absolute blast. We've had so much fun.'' Finalists Sir Steve Redgrave and Marcus Brigstocke pulled out of the competition following injuries. Joe McElderry has won The Jump.
The singer beat Donal MacIntyre in the final jump of the series to be declared the winner of the Channel 4 winter sports show.
Both competitors - who joined the competition late as stand-ins for Henry Conway and Melinda Messenger - took on the medium-sized K24 jump.
However, McElderry opted to jump the K40 in the final round, while MacIntyre remained on the K24. McElderry recorded the greatest distance at 17.5 metres.
Earlier today, Sir Steve Redgrave and Marcus Brigstocke were forced to pull out of the competition due to injuries sustained in the ski cross event.
Redgrave decided to opt out of the final after an old injury caused him pain in today's training session.
Brigstocke "wiped out and injured his knee" after taking on the course's final jump, meaning he was unable to jump on tonight's show.

Sir Steve Redgrave broke down in tears after being forced to pull out of The Jump today.
The Olympian was injured a few days ago but was cleared to compete in today's ski cross event. However, after a fall during his first practice run he decided not to continue - hours before tonight's live finale.
Speaking after making his decision, Redgrave admitted that he was "absolutely gutted" before breaking down.
He later went on: "I love my skiing. I love the show. I want to give my all. Unfortunately, I gave it a little bit too much three days ago. That was it."
Marcus Brigstocke was also forced to pull out of the competition today after injuring his knee during the ski cross event.

The Jump's Sir Steve Redgrave and Marcus Brigstocke have been forced to pull out of the show just hours before tonight's finale.
The duo both came a cropper after taking part in today's event, the dangerous ski cross, which sees competitors skiing down a course full of ramps and jumps.
Redgrave had already been injured earlier in the competition but a Channel 4 spokesperson explained that he was "cleared to take part in the event".
However, during his first practice run he fell while avoiding the final jump and - although he started to make his way back up for a second go - he decided it was "too much" and withdrew from the competition, giving an emotional exit interview.
Meanwhile, in the first heat, Brigstocke "wiped out and injured his knee" after taking on the course's final jump - which he had avoided in training. He will now be...

Anthea Turner and Ritchie Neville have been eliminated from 'The Jump'. The pair narrowly missed out on a spot in the final of the celebrity winter sports competition on Sunday night (02.02.14), after losing out to Donal McIntyre in the ski jump challenge, following their poor scores in the slalom, which along with speed-skiing, was one of the key events. Upon exiting the contest, Ritchie told show host Davina McCall: ''I've had an amazing time. I said I'm going to come here and give it 100%, and that's exactly what I did.'' The event saw winners Joe McElderry, Sir Steve Redgrave and Marcus...
