She walks away with a smile on her face. Unfortunately for Winston, Richard (James T. Pickens) witnesses this flirty exchange. Richard, who just happens to be his ex Maggie’s (Kelly McCreary) father! “She seems nice,” Richard says to Winston. Even though Maggie left for Chicago last season,...

The series first premiered back in 2005 and follows the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, who are constantly faced with life-or death decisions. Over the years, we’ve seen fan favorite characters come and go, new ones join the ensemble, and many devastating character deaths. Grey’s Anatomy is headed into its 20th season, and that big milestone is front and center in the series’ official poster, which features cast members arranged around the number 20. Like last year’s official cast photo, this year’s poster includes the main cast, plus recurring guest stars Debbie Allen (who is also Grey’s executive producer/director) and Scott Speedman. (The only person missing from last year’s group is Kelly McCreary who exited the series last season.)
Naturally, the three remaining original cast members, Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr., are most prominent.(As Deadline reported in our Season 20 preview, Pompeo, who is an executive producer, will continue to get top billing. While technically no longer a series regular, she still does the voiceovers and recurs, with her character Meredith remaining the heart of the show.)

Grey’s Anatomy continues to rewrite the TV history books, extending its record as the longest-running primetime medical drama with the upcoming landmark 20th season, which premieres this Thursday, March 14.
This also marks the first season of Meg Marinis, an 18-year Grey’s Anatomy veteran, as the series’ showrunner. And she is not planning it as the drama’s final chapter.
“I’ve not been informed that this is the last season so I’m going to keep going and telling stories as long as they let me,” she told Deadline in an interview tied to the Season 20 premiere. “We still have stories to tell. We receive a tremendous amount of support from the studio and the network and from Shondaland. So I’m going to keep going until they tell me to put that pen down.”
Created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy comes from Rhimes’ Shondaland and ABC Signature, part of Disney Television Studios.

We'll be old and gray before Grey's Anatomy ends!
Grey's Anatomy continues to make records and hold its own as a cultural juggernaut in the television landscape as it comes off 19 seasons on the air.
And while there has been a revolving door cast over the past nearly two decades, including the titular main character, Meredith Grey herself, it shows no signs of slowing down.
One of the most exciting aspects of Grey's Anatomy Season 19 is how the series found a way to reinvent itself.
It served as a reboot within the series, and the show pulled it off remarkably well with a fresh batch of interns who have already made their mark and feel like the next generation of this series.
No one could've anticipated that a new version of Og "M.A.G.I.C" conveniently, also "M.A.G.Yk" could bring back the familiar vibes of Grey's Anatomy's heyday,...

With the conclusion of Grey's Anatomy Season 19, there's a big question about which cast members will return for Grey's Anatomy Season 20.
Thankfully, we have some answers.
Deadline revealed Thursday evening that James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson will be back as Richard and Bailey, respectively.
The move means they will become the longest-serving series regulars as they are the only two remaining cast members who have been with the medical drama since the start.
Kevin McKidd, who joined the cast during Grey's Anatomy Season 5, will return as Owen.
Kim Raver, who first appeared on Grey's Anatomy Season 6 and returned in Season 14 after a five-year break, will return as Teddy.
The Raver news being revealed months before production is set to get underway, given that Grey's Anatomy Season 19 Episode 20 concluded with Teddy's life on the line after collapsing.
It's rare for these cliffhangers to be spoiled in advance, but maybe ABC...

What. A. Finale!
Keeping with the theme of Grey's Anatomy Season 19 serving as both a soft reboot of the series and the desperate shot of adrenaline it needed to recapture the essence of what the series used to be, the supersized finale felt like something gifted from us from the early seasons.
With Grey's Anatomy Season 19 Episode 19, we had runaway brides and sexy hookups, and nerve-wracking travels. And Grey's Anatomy Season 19 Episode 20 had Mer and Maggie's returns, multiple cliffhangers, love confessions, and so much drama and action it's insane that they jammed so much in.

The two-hour Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 finale had it all: a wedding, a near-plane crash, a long-overdue award, kisses aplenty, and a doctor collapsing in the O.R. Oh, and Ellen Pompeo and Kelly McCreary come back to the show for guest appearances… [Warning: The below contains major spoilers for the two-part Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 finale, Episodes 19 and 20, “Wedding Bell Blues” and “Happily Ever After?”] As the episode starts, Griffith (Alexis Floyd) is getting ready for her wedding. Yes, despite Lucas’ best efforts to “speak now” last episode — you know, else he forever hold his peace — Griffith still intends on marrying Trey (William Martinez). “I can’t deny that we have a connection,” she tells Adams (Niko Terho) in this episode. “But Trey does love me. And I think what he and I built together deserves this chance. And I don’t want to hurt you, and I don’t want to lose you from my life. But I’...

[This story contains spoilers to the season 19 two-episode finale of Grey’s Anatomy, “Wedding Bell Blues/Happily Ever After.”]
The two-hour conclusion to Grey’s Anatomy’s 19th season welcomed back two of its recently departed doctors, and left another character’s fate up in the air.
After exiting the hit ABC medical drama as a series regular earlier in the season, Ellen Pompeo made her anticipated return during the May 18 two-part finale, “Wedding Bell Blues/Happily Ever After.” The episode split its time between the veteran cast and the younger batch of interns, with the main storyline centering around Simone’s (Alexis Floy) wedding day and the young doctor ultimately calling off her nuptials and choosing Lucas (Niko Terho). With the wedding as the backdrop, love was in the air for many of the characters — including Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Link (Chris Carmack), who finally vocalized their love for one another.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the two-part Season 19 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, “Wedding Bell Blues” and “Happily Ever After?”
Grey’s Anatomy wrapped its nineteenth season with a two-part finale packed with many hallmarks of the series: love confessions, hookups, heartache, a runaway bride and a cliffhanger ending with lives hanging in the balance. It also marked a return of the two longtime cast members who departed as series regulars earlier this season, Ellen Pompeo and Kelly McCreary, whose Meredith and Maggie, reunited with Nick and Winston, respectively, for much needed closure (and at least one happy ending.)
The finale also symbolized the passing of the baton from outgoing longtime Grey’s showrunner Krista Vernoff to new showrunner Meg Marinis, who will be taking the reins next season. The two co-wrote Part 1 of the finale, directed by series star Kevin McKidd, while Marinis penned solo Part 2, directed by Grey...

Exclusive: Because of Grey’s Anatomy‘s record, 19-year run to date and its large cast, the series’ renewal is always followed by negotiations with series regulars whose contracts are up. That sometimes stretches into the summer but this time, deals have wrapped relatively quickly, with all longtime fan favorites set to return as series regulars for Grey’s Anatomy‘s landmark 20th season.
That includes the last two remaining original cast members James Pickens Jr., who plays Richard and Chandra Wilson (Bailey) as well as Kevin McKidd (Owen), who has been on the show since Season 5, Kim Raver (Teddy), who started in Season 6 and then rejoined in Season 14 after a five-year break, Camilla Luddington (Jo), a cast member since Season 9, and Caterina Scorsone (Amelia), who joined in Season 10 after guest starring appearances. Turns out Ryan Seacrest‘s Live farewell… wasn’t actually live at all.
As Seacrest and Kelly Ripa entered the studio together one last time, a chyron informed viewers that his big sendoff was “previously recorded.” What followed was a rather scant host chat capped by Seacrest accidentally spilling his coffee everywhere. Then came an interview with Dr. Jill Biden, during which Seacrest probed the First Lady on such hot-button issues as… whether anyone watches Live With Kelly and Ryan at the White House.

Just one episode isn’t enough for Maggie’s (Kelly McCreary) farewell, so the Powers That Be at Grey’s Anatomy turned her swan song into a two-parter — Season 19, Episode 14, “Shadow of Your Love,” and Episode 15, “Mama Who Bore Me” — on April 13. Dr. Maggie Pierce treated her last patient at Grey Sloan Memorial Thursday, after nine seasons as a core member of the “Grey’s Anatomy” cast.
For Kelly McCreary, the actress behind the talented cardiothoracic surgeon and Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) half-sister, the ABC medical drama’s two-hour farewell gave her the perfect vehicle to honor Maggie’s journey, and to close a major chapter in her own life and career.
“It meant a lot to me,” McCreary told TheWrap about the episodes. “When I spoke to Krista [Vernoff, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ showrunner and executive producer], after she agreed to let Maggie go, I said it’d be very nice to be able to have scenes that feel like closure with all of the characters that have meant something to Maggie … my homies, my family that I’ve been doing this with for such a long time.”

[This story contains spoilers from the April 13 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “Shadow of Your Love/Mama Who Bore Me.”]
After nine seasons of playing Dr. Maggie Pierce, Kelly McCreary has said farewell to Grey’s Anatomy.
The April 13 episode — a double hour with “Shadow of Your Love/Mama Who Bore Me” — brought Maggie’s arc to a crossroad after weeks of marital tension with husband Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) as the brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon found herself in a professional crisis: Stay and work on her marriage or accept the once-in-a-lifetime offer at the Heart Center of Chicago?
To help Maggie make her decision, Grey’s Anatomy invoked Maggie’s lineage. The half-sister to Meredith Grey shares a birth mother with Ellen Pompeo’s titular character, Ellis Grey (Kate Burton). The late world-famous surgeon has always loomed large over both of her now also world-famous surgeon daughters, and McCreary says Ellis’ role in Maggie’s life has been the North Star...

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episodes 1914 and 1915 of Grey’s Anatomy, which aired April 13.
In a two-episode arc tonight, Grey’s Anatomy bid farewell to Maggie Pierce, as Kelly McCreary, who has played Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) half-sister and head of the hospital’s cardiothoracic surgery since the end of Season 10, is leaving the long-running medical drama.
The episodes chronicled Maggie’s last day at Grey Sloan and her departure for her new job in Chicago. Compared to Meredith, who got a big going-away party, Maggie’s sendoff was more subdued, but she had heartfelt goodbye scenes with several longtime surgeons, most notably her dad Richard who gave her a present: a business-card holder shaped like the bench they sat on when he found out she was his daughter.
Maggie and Winston pulled off one last medical miracle together, teaming to save a woman with a giant tumor near her heart.

After almost two decades of healing wounds, both physical and romantic, the staff of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital is still going strong.
Despite the onscreen departure of series star Ellen Pompeo, Grey’s Anatomy has already been picked up for its 20th season, meaning fans had plenty to celebrate at the show’s PaleyFest panel, held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday.
Krista Vernoff — who will depart as showrunner after the 19th season — was joined onstage by 15 members of the current ensemble cast, including Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Kevin McKidd, Caterina Scorsone, Camilla Luddington, Kelly McCreary, Kim Raver, Jake Borelli, Chris Carmack, Anthony Hill, Alexis Floyd, Harry Shum Jr. Adelaide Kane, Midori Francis and Niko Terho.

Maggie Pierce's time in Seattle is coming to a close.
That much we've known for two weeks now, but there has been no indication about how Kelly McCreary's beloved Grey's Anatomy character would depart.
Until now.
McCreary's final episode is slated to air Thursday, April 13, but next week's episode hints how Maggie's arc will end.
We hear in a new trailer for the episode that the Heart Center in Chicago is interested in Maggie.
Teddy tells Amelia the news.
"Why didn't you tell me about a job offer?" Amelia says to her sister.
We don't get any indication of whether Maggie accepts the job offer and, of course, whether Winston will accompany her.
"I already moved across the country for you once," He says in the clip.
If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you know Maggie and Winston's relationship has been in tatters lately.

Grey’s Anatomy is gearing up to say goodbye to another one of its central doctors in Season 19, and the promo for the April 6 episode might have revealed how the ABC medical drama will write out Kelly McCreary’s Dr. Maggie Pierce. In the episode entitled “Cowgirls Don’t Cry,” a bull rider is bucked off and stomped on by a 1000-lb bull, and she doesn’t want her parents to know because they freak out when stuff like this happens. Her injuries are severe enough that she needs surgery, during which Maggie takes control. The rest of the promo features Teddy (Kim Raver) telling Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) that the Heart Center in Chicago is interested in Maggie. “Why didn’t you tell me about a job offer?” Amelia then asks her sister. So is Maggie going to take that job? ...

Kevin McKidd has dispelled rumours that he will be leaving Grey’s Anatomy, even as he’s set to co-lead Itvx’s forthcoming crime drama Six Four.
The 49-year-old Scottish actor has starred as Dr Owen Hunt in the long-running medical drama since season five (2009).
Following Ellen Pompeo’s departure from her titular role as Dr Meredith Grey in the show’s current 19th season, questions about McKidd’s future on the series arose.
However, McKidd – who is now among the show’s few remaining veteran actors – has confirmed that he’s “not going anywhere any time soon”.
“I love playing my character on Grey’s. I love what it’s done for my life and it’s like a family. Truly,” he told RadioTimes.com in a new interview.
“We’ve been there so long, we’ve seen people have babies, get married, have sad things happen in their lives,...

Grey’s Anatomy is coming back for its 20th(!) season in the fall, and it does seem like it can go on forever, especially considering it’s able to find ways to refresh things with a new crop of doctors (as is the case with the interns this year). But not only has the ABC medical drama seen quite a few cast members leave over the years, there are at least a couple exits already in Season 19: Ellen Pompeo now has a reduced role (and left in the winter premiere but will be back) and Kelly McCreary is exiting soon as well.. So when we spoke with Kim Raver about her Grey’s directorial debut, we had to ask if she’s thinking about how long she might stay.. “I just am ...
