The Sacramentun was the Roman Oath used to swear soldiers into the Roman Army. An event seen upon the sands of the Ludas in Capua, concreting the ever elevating position of Glaber.
Glaber’s character has upped the stakes by the introduction of crucifixion as a punishment for any slave who dares utter the name of Spartacus. The Biblical connotations are natural, and the plainsong undertones seem appropriate despite the fact that the characters still honour Jupiter and the gods of Olympus. The brutality of the horrifying crucifixion of the innocent slave girl, as well as the bitter approval of the crowd, is just plain nasty; yet somewhat needed to allow our hatred of Glaber’s twisted political power mission to rise. The knowing look between Ashur and Gannicus, Ashur’s twisted pleasure at the screams if the slave girl and Gannicus’ disgust brings up old tensions,...
