Bela Lugosi fan alert! This Monogram horror opus is yet another narrative-challenged fumble of unmotivated, incomprehensible characters… but Bela’s great in it, in a central role. He’s a sympathetic, non- maniac this time, if you don’t count his tendency to go into trances and smother random houseguests. Savant’s review has the lowdown on the interesting cast; Tom Weaver’s commentary has the authoritative lowdown on whole show.

All struggling young reporter Mike Ward (John McGuire) wants is a break. He needs money so he can move out of his crummy room in a three story boarding house, get his own place, and marry his girl, Jane (Margaret Tallichet). His break arrives when he becomes the star witness to the murder of Nick, the owner of Nick’s Coffee Pot, a neighborhood eatery right across the street from where he lives. The newspaper he works for gives him a raise and assigns him to cover the murder trial. At first he and Jane are elated about Mike’s turn of fortune, and they began planning their future. But soon Jane wonders if the young man Mike is going to testify against, a young cab driver named Briggs (Elisha Cook, Jr.), is really the killer. “He’s so young,” she says. Her attitude begins to...

No matter who is evicted from "Big Brother 17" this Thursday, August 27, he or she will have a chance to return to the house within the hour. The four jury members will compete on the next live show, and one of them will stay to compete in the next Head of Household competition and try to survive Week 10. Will professional poker player Vanessa Rousso be the houseguest who has that eviction/possible redemption story? Eh, maybe. But probably not. Johnny Mac may end up following his girl Becky out the door instead. #Jecky4Eva
How did it come to this?
Vanessa's onetime close ally, Austin Matelson, won the HoH competition that had just started on the August 20 live show. Last week, under his showmance Liz Nolan's HoH, there was a lot of discussion about possibly backdooring Vanessa. They decided to table the move until this week,...

The Screen Actors Guild Foundation broke ground on the final stage of its New York home Tuesday. The ceremony marked the beginning of work on a 4,000-foot space on the ground floor at 247 W. 54th St. that, when completed, will house screening, performance, and education facilities for the SAG Foundation Actors Center in New York. “Since 2010, the SAG Foundation has quadrupled its free, educational programming for SAG-aftra New York members,” SAG Foundation President Cyd Wilson said. “The rate at which New York performers are taking advantage of our professional programs and resources is astounding.
