HBO has acquired exclusive Us television and streaming rights to Asif Kapadia’s documentary Diego Maradona ahead of its out-of-competition slot in Cannes later this month, and will plan an awards-qualifying run later this year.
The film will also be available on HBO on Demand, HBO Now, HBO Go and partners’ streaming platforms.

In the second major acquisition ahead of the Cannes Film Festival (May 14-25), HBO has picked up the anticipated sports documentary “Diego Maradona,” from Oscar and BAFTA-winner Asif Kapadia, who launched music biodoc “Amy” (A24) at Cannes 2015 before winning the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. HBO has acquired exclusive rights to Amy and Senna director Asif Kapadia’s feature-length documentary Diego Maradona, which will debut at Cannes later this month. Drawing on more than 500 hours of rare footage from the Argentine icon’s personal archives, the documentary charts the trials and triumphs of the legendary footballer during his years at Italian club Napoli.
The film will have its world premiere as an Official Selection (Out Of Competition) at Cannes. The documentary, which will have its world premiere at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, documents the trials and triumphs of the legendary soccer player. HBO plans to release the documentary, which was executive produced and directed by Asif Kapadia, on Sept. 24.

Having it's world premier at Rotterdam is Pat Holden's (Awaydays) poltergeist thriller which is supposedly based on a true story. Described as having some incredible 1970's art direction, the story revolves around a family who moves into their dream home only to find an unwelcome 'presence' who soon makes friends with their 12 year old daughter. The film is produced by Bil Bungay who worked on Duncan Jones Moon and I have it on good authority from one critic that it's a great film, but that doesn't mean anything until we at Quiet Earth get to judge for ourselves. We've been eagerly awaiting a trailer and have been in touch with the folks behind the film, so as soon as we get it, you'll see it!
