In mainstream media nowadays, there is a serious scarcity of inspiring, interesting superheroes, as cynicism and edginess have taken over the minds of fans and creators alike. The moral simplicity, high ideals, empathy, and compassion that defined the superheroes of yesteryear and the golden age have been replaced with the amoral, apathetic, grim self-projections of makers—created in such a way in a vain effort to make the characters ‘relatable’ to the audience. Even in such dreary, tedious situations, works like My Adventures with Superman exemplify the best potential of the genre by holding on to so-called old-timey ideals. The animated series has redefined the age-old saga of the Man of Steel for a new generation in such a way that it not only counters the prevalent bitterness of the genre as a whole but also acts as a blueprint for updated adaptations of iconic stories.

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Films may currently be in production on the first of the studio’s rebooted and reimagined superhero franchise pictures, but that doesn’t mean executives can’t make announcements about the second one.
“Supergirl: World of Tomorrow” will hit theaters (and IMAX) on June 26, 2026, as per reports. Milly Alcock, the 24-year-old Australian actress, will play Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, also known as Kara Danvers, the cousin of Kal-El, the Last Son of Krypton, also known as Kal-El, also known as Clark Kent, also known as Superman. Kara Zor-El, by the way, should not be confused with Kara Zor-l, also known as Karen Starr, also known as Power Girl, who is also Superman’s cousin, but, like, from a different universe. It’s complicated. Alcock is best known for the part of Young Rhaenyra Targaryen in “House of the Dragon.”

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox stands tall as the greatest animated Dcau film. The movie features a dynamic storyline with three-dimensional characters and outstanding voice actors. Besides the rich narrative and well-written characters, the voice cast of the film has done a fantastic job. At the same time, there is quite an interesting story behind the casting of the role of Superman.
A still from Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
In the animated series, Clark Kent was voiced by Tim Daly, the actor always the right choice to voice the character. His voice radiated warmth, determination, and passion, which is necessary to play the iconic DC superhero. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, he could not voice the superhero for this movie. Instead, his son did the work, and surprisingly, very few fans noticed the difference.

In a new interview with GQ, celebrity trainer Paolo Mascitti is revealing the tips and tricks he used to turn the lean David Corenswet into a jacked, powerhouse ahead of filming on the Dcu's Superman.
Said Mascitti, "This is a James Gunn film, and he has a specific vision of the entire project. David had been working out intensively before I met him, but he’s naturally a very lean guy. He’s 6’6” but we wanted to put more bulk on him. He probably went from 200lbs to 240lbs, but some of that mass will be shed as he continues to tone up.”
He revealed that he and Corenswet had very intense training sessions for about 5 months before filming started on Superman. However, even though the cameras are now rolling, they're still training.

Earlier this week, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet suited up as Superman's Man of Steel. It likely hasn't received the reaction Gunn wanted, generating memes and an overall mixed response.
Zack Snyder hasn't shared his take on the reveal, but one of his longtime collaborators has.
Clay Staub served as an aerial second unit director on both versions of Justice League, was an additional second unit director on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and also collaborated with Snyder on 300 and Dawn of the Dead.
"Who thought this was the best option for a First Look?" he asked on X. "Really, I’m not joking, speaking solely from the layout perspective, the pose (pulling his boot on) making the suit chest and arms look bulky and rubbery. Btw are those Trunks we’re returning to, I’m asking for a friend?"

After first teasing the costume at the end of February, yesterday saw us finally get a proper look at David Corenswet's Man of Steel in DC Studios and James Gunn's Superman. Unfortunately, the response has been mixed.
That's typically the case with any suit reveal, but the image makes some noteworthy missteps in its presentation that have left some fans concerned with the creative direction of the Dcu.
In this feature, we take a look at those and what the image itself reveals about Superman. From a possible villain tease to the suit's finer, possibly McU-inspired finer details, we're breaking it down for you in as much detail as possible.

Henry Cavill pretty much had and maintained that muscular physique right from the start, which must be one of the major reasons behind his casting and fitting perfectly as Superman in the Dceu. But things unfolded differently for David Corenswet, who will play the next Clark Kent in James Gunn’s reboot of the Dcu: All because he didn’t possess that superhero physique from the start.
David Corenswet in Hollywood.
Needless to say, this one factor affected fans’ approval of him in the role as well. However, being the absolute jaw-dropper that he is, Corenswet has surpassed everyone’s expectations through his recent revelation of how much he has beefed up to play this respective character. And unsurprisingly enough, this revelation should be enough to put his comparisons to Cavill to rest with ease.

James Gunn and Peter Safran have been pretty busy bringing a new era of Dcu to live action. And their first-ever film will be Superman, releasing next year. Starring David Corenswet as the titular superhero, fans are needless to say excited and eagerly awaiting.
Hollywood star David Corenswet is James Gunn’s Superman
Gunn, who is usually sharing updates of the film on his social media, recently tweeted a picture of Corenswet in the iconic red and blue suit. While he looked as good as ever, one fan in particular went on to edit it a bit, and the fan edit looks infinitely better and more in line with Gunn’s vision for the character.

Predictably, the first look at David Corenswet's Superman suit from the James Gunn-directed reboot is going viral on search engines and social media.
However, while most comic book fans are focusing on the nature and potential origin of the costume (whether it's something Kryptonian or a Ma Kent original) it's worth noting that there seems to be a gigantic planet/ship/alien attacking Metropolis in the background.
Given that James Gunn has asserted that the main (and potentially only) villain in Superman is Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, it's something of a headscratcher to see the giant object attacking the city.
Below, we'll examine some possible identities for the floating object but we'll also caution that this could be an original creation for the film.

Earlier today, Warner Bros. and James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet fully suited up as the Dcu's Superman. Fans have had plenty to say about the costume and we're optimistic that a better shot will eventually follow.
After all, Kal-El hunched over in a chair with visible creases and loose-fitting parts of the suit surely aren't representative of what we'll see in theaters when Superman is released next summer. Well, here's hoping it's not, anyway.
Costume aside, when Corenswet - a relative unknown - was cast, many fans argued that he was too skinny to play the Man of Tomorrow.
If you still have any doubts, then we'd imagine the photo below will rid you of them. Corenswet's trainer has taken to Instagram to share a shot of the actor mid-workout and this guy is seriously jacked. He's got massive to play Superman and may even be...

Nicolas Cage is all about his family. The actor puts his kids above everything else, even turning down massive roles in movies like The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix because they would have meant being away from home for too long. For Cage, that wasn’t worth it. He chose to stay close to his kids, preferring bedtime stories over Hollywood blockbusters.

Christopher Reeve was initially unsure about landing the role of Superman when he heard that Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman were going to appear in the movie. Since he was not as famous as these actors, he doubted his chances of getting the role. Working with Brando was a big deal at the time. However, in an interview, Reeve revealed that he did not enjoy working with him.

He did not appear in a Hollywood movie until 1978 when he starred in Gray Lady Down. He once told David Letterman the reason behind the hostility between him and Brando after working in Superman.

The debate over “Who is the better Superman?” is one that has been raging for as long as one can remember. Ever since David Corenswet was officially announced as the replacement for Henry Cavill in the iconic role in James Gunn’s version of the DC Universe, fans have been conflicted about who the better one is.
(L-r): Henry Cavill and David Corenswet

And this time, most fans seem to have the final answer.

Superman’s future looks considerably brighter as James Gunn prepares the new version of the DC Universe. Further, even Jack Quaid’s 2023 animated TV series My Adventures With Superman, featured the superhero as a heartfelt and charming one. To be specific, ever since the end of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel era, the fan-favorite character has witnessed bright and positive days.
Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell in The Boys
The grim and gritty Superman is now considered a thing of the past. With James Gunn promising to bring a more hopeful Kryptonian, Henry Cavill’s gritty version is now history. However, despite starring as the Last Son of Krypton in the PG-rated 2023 animated TV series, Jack Quaid offered his rare support to Cavill’s grim version of Kal-El. Although he preferred starring as the positive and proactive version, he has nothing against the darker versions of Superman.

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy has been officially renamed to Superman. Gunn made the announcement during the first day of filming on February 29. Interestingly, the Kryptonian’s birthday falls on the same day, according to DC Comics. While the change came as a surprise to many fans, they also noticed a few details on the logo that accompanied the announcement.

The logo appears to have some snow effect on it, which prompted many fans to believe that Superman’s Arctic fortress, The Fortress of Solitude, has greater significance in the film. James Gunn’s Superman will hit the theaters on July 11, 2025.

The iconic superhero of DC Comics, Superman has graced the silver screen in various incarnations, captivating audiences with each portrayal by actors like Christopher Reeve, George Reeves, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill, among others. Actors like Reeve and Cavill have garnered widespread acclaim for donning the red cape in classics like Superman and the redefined interpretation in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
Christopher Reeve as Superman
However, fans have now come to the realization that Reeve was able to do one thing that could have been missing from the other depictions of the superhero, which is his transformation from Kal-El to Clark Kent.
Christopher Reeve’s Seamless Transition From Kal-El to Clark Kent
Starting from the 1978 film, Christopher Reeve continued to portray Superman throughout the Superman film series. And the actor’s meticulous portrayal tackled the enduring question of how a mere pair of spectacles could effectively conceal Clark Kent’s identity as Superman.

In 2022, after a decade of trying to keep up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and largely failing, Warner Bros. and DC decided a drastic course correction was required. The first step was to wind down the so-called DC Extended Universe or Dceu, and bid its chief architect, Zack Snyder, adieu. But even the shuttering of this ill-fated cinematic project proved to be a bit of a mess.
At the start of 2023, Warner Bros. found itself in the unenviable position of having announced the end of the Dceu with four movies tied to that on-screen universe still to release. Meanwhile, James Gunn and producer Peter Safran took over as co-heads of the newly-dubbed DC Studios and announced the DC Universe — a totally different project to the Dceu that may or may not have a few of the old characters popping up from time to time.

What’s faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? That would be Superman, of course, but you might not know it from the drawings. But it might be worth a look, as storyboards from 1978’s Superman are up for auction this weekend.
Through Peter Harrington Rare Books, 18 storyboards from Richard Donner’s classic Superman will be up for auction at the California International Antiquarian Book Fair. But you’ll need some major coin, as the collection is valued at a little more than $31,500.
Here are some details on the Superman storyboards, as per the Peter Harrington website (where you can also check out the artwork): “Together 18 leaves (approx. 202 x 300 mm), hole-punched left. 17 pencil sketches on transparency (14 with opaque backing paper) and 1 leaf with “Final Shooting Sequence” written in manuscript fibre-tip. When it came to casting the new Supergirl, DC Studios exec James Gunn went above and beyond before honing in on Milly Alcock to star in the upcoming film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.”
Sources say Gunn and co-ceo Peter Safran flew multiple actors, including Meg Donnelly, to Atlanta for old-fashioned, onscreen auditions on the “Superman: Legacy” set. The actors also donned the Supergirl suit and boots, which is an atypical move in the superhero audition process (though Jamie Dornan once wore a makeshift Superman costume to his ill-fated audition for 2013’s “Man of Steel”).
Gunn first sparked to Alcock when he saw her playing Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s “House of the Dragon.” But Donnelly made it a close contest and had the advantage of having voiced the role of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in several Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s animated films, including last year’s “Legion of Super-Heroes.”

Brad Silberling's 1998 romance "City of Angels," a remake of Wim Wenders' indispensable 1987 film "Wings of Desire," stars Nicolas Cage as an immortal angel named Seth who gently breezes around Los Angeles, unseen by the people who live there. He appears to people only when they die, accompanying them to the afterworld. Observing humans as if they are an ineffable alien species, Seth becomes particularly enamored of an ambitious and compassionate young doctor named Maggie Rice. Seth finds that he might be experiencing love for the first time, and becomes visible to Dr. Rice, courting her and asking her deep questions about what it means to be human. Seth eventually chooses to transform into a human, sacrificing his immortality in order to be with his beloved.
What both Wenders and Silberling communicate with aplomb is how inhuman angels are. They live among humans but only interact when the humans die.

Ho ho ho! Santa Claus came to town last night and when he stopped over at the Warner Bros. lot, he seemed to leave two sparkling new presents in shiny wrapping paper… and a lump of coal they call Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Indeed, the strangest thing about this year’s four-day Christmas weekend frame at the box office is that technically Warner Bros. is overall having a pretty happy Christmas. The studio’s all-ages and holiday appropriate release from last weekend, Wonka, is projected as having a respectable 52 percent drop over the three-day weekend, but that doesn’t account for the fact that the fourth day is Christmas, which means it should make $26 million over the holiday (or really a drop of only 33 percent). Meanwhile The Color Purple is expected to join Wonka in the top three when it opens today. But what of the number one film of the season?...

As the casting of Superman: Legacy moves forward, there’s one important role that fans are awaiting: that of Jor-El, the father of Kal-El aka Superman aka Clark Kent. So who will fill that role? Right now, Kurt Russell has been rumored to be attached to Jor-El – but both Russell and DC Studios co-head James Gunn have debunked that any talk has taken place.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Kurt Russell said there is zero truth (yet?) to playing Jor-El in Superman: Legacy. “You know what: we don’t know a lot about Jor-El. Maybe there’s a version… I never heard this, so I don’t know. James Gunn was a blast to work with, though, so you never know.” For his part, Gunn addressed the rumor on Threads with, “I love working with and directing Kurt. Hilarious and fun and talented guy. But no this was never discussed.” The relationship...

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says there are only a few "universal characters" in fiction, such as Pinocchio, Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, and Tarzan. Far be it from me to compare my wisdom to Gdt's, but I would add Superman to that roster. The first and most mythic American superhero, there's something about Clark Kent everyone responds to.
With the original 1978 "Superman" film, director Richard Donner and screenwriter Mario Puzo spun co-creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's original Moses myth into a Christ allegory. Zack Snyder, director of "Man of Steel," echoed that but with a darker focus on the burdens of being mankind's savior, "Last Temptation of Christ" style.
John Byrne, who relaunched Superman comics in 1986, focused on the immigrant parable of Superman as the Last Son of Krypton living on Earth. Byrne is the one who redefined Superman as Clark Kent first, Kal-El second.

From internet memes to a slew of movies, this is the Age of Cage, but Nicolas Cage himself revealed that as he approaches his 60th birthday he is taking stock. He told a sold-out audience at the Red Sea Film Festival that he was winding down his film career after 45 years and over 100 films: “I want to do television; maybe Broadway.” His decision – inspired in part by his son showing him “Breaking Bad” — won’t be final, as he has several film projects in the pipeline, including “Sympathy for the Devil,” co-starring festival jury member Joel Kinnaman and a sequel to 2005’s “Lord of War” — “My character’s son grows up and becomes a rival. It’s very Arthurian,” he said.

Nicolas Cage has shared his thoughts on the use of AI in films, as well as his feelings about the final cut of his cameo as Superman in Warner Bros.’ “The Flash.”
In a recent interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Cage expressed his personal distaste for the technology, saying, “AI is a nightmare to me. It’s inhumane. You can’t get more inhumane than artificial intelligence.”
While AI did not play a part in Cage’s surprise cameo as Superman in “The Flash,” the final scene was different from what he shot for the 2023 superhero movie, according to the actor.

Warner Bros' DC Comics franchise is in dire need of an industrial-grade fumigation. When Christopher Nolan peaced out with the wildly uneven "The Dark Knight Rises" in 2012, the studio asked Zack Snyder to quarterback its DC Extended Universe answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Avengers" initiative. Unfortunately, Snyder's "Man of Steel" not only fell short of commercial expectations, it cheesed off a sizable portion of the hero's fanbase (who were furious over Superman's out-of-character killing of General Zod). Rather than play the long game and focus on nailing the other main characters, DC panicked and greenlit "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," a cart-before-the-horse debacle that dampened reasonable people's expectations for a stirringly epic superhero saga.
Despite solo successes with 2017's "Wonder Woman" and 2018's "Aquaman," the stink clung to Snyder's "Justice League." A family tragedy forced him to leave the calling-all-superheroes production, and his replacement, Joss Whedon, could not...

Of all the movies to emerge from the Snyderverse (aka the Dceu), "Man of Steel" might be the most palatable. It's true that Henry Cavill was a great Superman who never got a great Superman movie, but 2013's "Man of Steel" did at least represent Snyder's efforts to try something new with the titular hero. While it was slightly muddled in its attempts to meld more fantastical elements with the gritty realism of a Christopher Nolan Batman movie — the esteemed director served as producer on "Man of Steel" — the film that kicked off the Dceu was arguably the strongest entry in the entire ill-fated enterprise.
Unfortunately, a muddled tone and somewhat forgettable story weren't the film's only issues. Many fans of Supes took issue with the end of "Man of Steel," in which Cavill's Kal-El kills the film's villain, Michael Shannon's General Zod — recently resurrected for the box office disaster that was "The Flash.

DC Studios is closing in on its turning point when DC Extended Universe will finally conclude this year with ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ which will open the way for James Gunn and Peter Safran to kick off a new cinematic universe, officially called Dcu, from the ground up. DC Extended Universe is having a really hard time with its last few movies, and it’s really hard to predict that the last two movies left to be released will achieve some decent commercial result.
Apart from two independent and anticipated DC projects, ‘Joker’ and ‘The Batman — Part II,’ all DC fans’ eyes are looking forward to July 2025, when ‘Superman: Legacy,’ the first official Dcu movie, will hit theaters. James Gunn is writing and directing this upcoming Superman reboot, and David Corenswet is set to debut as the live-action Man of Tomorrow, along with Rachel Brosnahan, who will play Lois Lane.

It all began with such hope. As Superman tells Lois Lane in Man Of Steel, that’s what the big ‘S’ on his chest actually stands for – and when the DCEU_ seemingly wraps up the Dceu for good, it caps off a fraught and fascinating franchise emblematic of a fluctuating Hollywood landscape – one that never quite soared as high as it promised to.
In some ways, it’s fitting that The Flash is the film to close the loop on the Dceu – especially since it blasts back to the beginning, sending Barry Allen into an alternate universe to face the wrath of Michael Shannon’s General Zod in a Man Of Steel redux. But really, the Dceu began in a very different place to where it ended up. The intent for Man Of Steel seemed clear: to, in a post-Dark Knight Trilogy world, give Superman the Batman Begins treatment, telling...

Krypton was a beautiful place. Sasha Calle says this briefly, but insistently, during a pivotal scene for her character in The Flash. Prior to this moment, all we’ve really learned about Calle’s Supergirl is that her life has been one of misery and hardship. When she is discovered by Batman (Michael Keaton) and two Barry Allens (both Ezra Miller), she has spent years as a prisoner of the Russian government—a prize to be experimented on and presumably tortured in a locked box hellhole buried somewhere beneath the frozen waste of Siberia.
This Supergirl has every reason to distrust or even disdain human civilization on Earth. And she certainly is open to the idea. After being freed from the Russians and taken (finally) into the morning sunlight above Wayne Manor, she is cold toward the Barrys’ attempts to persuade her to...

This Supergirl has every reason to distrust or even disdain human civilization on Earth. And she certainly is open to the idea. After being freed from the Russians and taken (finally) into the morning sunlight above Wayne Manor, she is cold toward the Barrys’ attempts to persuade her to...

The search for Kal-El, the last son of Krypton, commonly known in these parts as Superman, is On!
Deadline has reported that DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are clearing their calendars for screen tests for a little over a week from now. Among the rumored names in the mix for the role of The Big Blue Boy Scout are Nicholas Hoult, last seen in the horror-comedy “Renfield,” David Corenswet, best known for the indie horror pic “Pearl” and HBO series “We Own This City,” and Tom Brittney, a lead on the series “Grantchester.”
Hoult and Brittney are both British. Corenswet is the only one from the good ol’ U.S.A. (born in Philly.) In the old days, Superman stood for “truth, justice, and the American way.” Coren also sounds a lot like “corn,” and the Kents do live in Smallville.

Editor’s note: As one of the lucky few who has seen The Flash in its entirety, it’s disappointing that the cameos are starting to leak out with only three weeks to go before it gets released. While the cameo below has been spoiled elsewhere, if you’ve managed to avoid it, don’t read it now. It ruins one of the movie’s biggest and best surprises. You’ve been warned.
This is the point of no return. Proceed with caution!
Welp! The superpowered cat is out of the bag, folks! Roughly three weeks before The Flash races into theaters for general audiences, the film’s director, Andy Muschietti, revealed a massive spoiler for the Scarlet Speedster’s new movie. While speaking with Esquire Middle East, Muschietti confirmed that Nicolas Cage appears as Superman in the new film. Why would he share this with the world instead of...

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for The Flash, arriving in theaters on June 16th.]
Michael Keaton won’t be the only alternate version of a DC superhero appearing in The Flash. Director Andy Muschietti has confirmed Nicolas Cage will finally make his debut as the Man of Steel 25 years after Superman Lives was canceled.
“Nic was absolutely wonderful. Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it,” Muschietti told Esquire Middle East. “I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon.”
Cage’s appearance as Superman in The Flash is made possible by its storyline, in which Ezra Miller’s titular character creates a ripple effect after using his powers to travel back in time to save his mother, Nora (played by Maribel Verdú). As a result, there are two versions of Batman (played by Keaton and Ben Affleck) and Michael Shannon’s General Zod returns from 2013’s Man of Steel.

Every handsome young star in Hollywood is secretly checking themselves out in the mirror with a red cape on their back.
James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery to bring order and unity to the studio’s most famous intellectual property, the superheroes of DC Comics. Their clean slate will begin, as it did with “Action Comics #1” in 1938, with the story of a Kryptonian immigrant named Kal-El, for whom the yellow sun of Earth bestows secret powers that transform him into Superman. (Cue the trumpets!)
“Superman: Legacy” will begin screen testing performers after Memorial Day, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and the big question now is figuring out who will get that call.
David Corenswet, last seen in the hit horror picture “Pearl,” is one of three definite contenders, according to THR’s sources. (The other two names remain a mystery.)
