I’m not the biggest fan of documentaries, and with time, my dislike for them only grows. Glitch: The Rise And Fall Of HQ Trivia is one of the documentaries that I had no interest in because I had unfortunately never heard of the game, and the mouthful of a title alone makes me uninterested in what it has to say. Subjective thoughts aside, Glitch very clearly pushes a certain agenda with a singular point of view, making it hard to take seriously. It’s Quiz Daddy’s show from start to finish, and that’s possibly not what people are looking for going into the show. There’s really nothing positive to take away from the documentary, and that’s what makes it not so fun to watch, either. Tech companies and their growth are worth talking about and looking at, but this movie does so little about the...

Three months. That’s how long it took for HQ Trivia to go from unknown mobile game to household name with a record 2.38 million users at once. Now, six years later, a new documentary, Glitch: The Rise And Fall Of HQ Trivia, aims to tell the scandalous behind-the-scenes story of HQ Trivia’s journey from a zeitgeisty app to a corporate disaster. But days after the first trailer was posted, the documentary was embroiled in its own scandal online: a mishmash of accusations, callouts, and digs that director Salima Koroma...

It was 2017, and the world was Scott Rogowsky’s oyster.
He had spent several years toiling as a comic trying to make it in New York when he auditioned for a new app-based game show called HQ Trivia. Little could he have foreseen what was to come, as the startup — from Rus Yusupov and Colin Kroll, creators of Vine, who sold their company to Twitter for a rumored 30 million in 2012 only to see it shuttered in 2016 — snowballed into a global sensation.
Millions dutifully logged on via smartphones at 9 p.m. E.T. to play along as Rogowsky posed a series of multiple-choice questions, each round more difficult than the last. Any players still standing after the final question shared in a communal pot — usually somewhere between 750 and 2,000, but, as corporate sponsorship from the likes of Wendy’s and Nike joined the bandwagon, sometimes as high as 400,000.

HQ Trivia, the once-buzzy quiz show app, is struggling, according to a new report by Digiday, which alleges that the company recently turned down a new funding round from Lightspeed Venture Partners.
HQ Trivia allegedly rejected the round because it would have been a down round -- meaning that shares would’ve been priced lower than the company's most recent round in Feb. 2018, as would have been its ensuing valuation. The company last raised $15 million at a $100 million valuation; that round was led by Founders Fund, with participation from Lightspeed.
News of the proposed funding arrives after layoffs were conducted at HQ Trivia earlier this month, Digiday notes, whereupon the company cut staff by 20% to under 30 employees -- which in turn spawned additional (voluntary) departures. In April, flagship host Scott Rogowsky departed due to a disagreement about his time commitment to the startup.

Dazn, the rising sports streaming operation headed by former ESPN chief John Skipper, has added a key exec from Skipper’s former regime, bringing in Jamie Horowitz as Evp of content for North America.
Horowitz had been a consultant at Dazn since 2018. He was fired by Fox Sports in 2017 amid an investigation by the company of accusations of sexual harassment. Through his attorney, Horowitz asserted his innocence and the company never disclosed the reason for his dismissal. In 2014, he was ousted by NBC after a tumultous 10-week stint overseeing Today that came soon after the end of the morning show’s decade-plus advantage over rival Good Morning America in the ratings.
As Dazn pumps more money into filling out its programming lineup beyond live rights to soccer, boxing, Mma and other sports, it will look to Horowitz to replicate his successful development of shows like ESPN’s daily debate staple First Take.

Jamie Horowitz is joining Dazn, the sports subscription service primarily focused on boxing and Mma, as executive vice president of content in North America, according to a company memo shared on Friday morning.
Horowitz will report directly to chairman John Skipper. The two previously worked together at ESPN, where Horowitz crafted several shows, including “First Take,” while Skipper was president. Horowitz later moved on to Fox Sports, where he served as president of FS1 from 2015 to 2017 before being fired after the network opened an investigation into claims of sexual harassment. Horowitz, through his attorney, denied any misconduct.
In his memo to staff on Friday, Skipper said that Horowitz will oversee original programming, live production and social media as part of his role. Horowitz joins Dazn as it prepares to invest about $12 million into original content.

Following last year’s launch of Rize, a many-to-many, cryptocurrency-based livestreaming video platform, YouNow has launched its second crypto-centered mobile app.
The livestreaming game show, dubbed Wtf, is a pop culture-focused competition in which players can earn crypto prizes in real time. Wtf capitalizes on both YouNow’s previous efforts in the crypto space as well as the buzz surrounding live game show apps, including runaway hit (though recently-beleaguered) HQ Trivia. YouNow claims that Wtf, in which viewers can win cash prizes in the form of Ethereum, is the first “cryptocurrency-powered game show app in the world.”
Wtf games are hosted every weekday at 6:00 pm Et. And if HQ Trivia has viral celebrity host Scott Rogowsky, Wtf has enlisted its own rotating cast of three professional comics to headline daily competitions: Madelyn Murphy, Julia Johns, and Josh Rodriguez.

A strapping host by the name of Scott Rogowsky walks participants through a series of 12 multiple-choice questions on a range of topics. Get all 12 right and you win a share of the prize pot for that day. If you get one incorrectly, you're out of the daily competition. Lauren May recently decided to play the game one afternoon and ended up getting all questions right. As for what happened after she discovered she won $11.30, we'll let Avery Armour and Megan Kum's video tell the story. "Did I not get...

Android users will soon be able to get their hands on the live-streaming trivia phenomenon that has captivated its fans, 12 questions at a time. HQ, which continues to pull in audiences that exceed 500,000 players just two months after its release, has announced its plan to arrive in the Google Play store on New Year's Day.
HQ, founded by two of the guys who brought Vine into existence, has won fans thanks to its addictive format. Twice per day, at 3 Pm and 9 Pm Et, host Scott Rogowsky reads off a dozen multiple-choice questions. Anyone who answers all 12 correctly wins a portion of that game's prize.
The Android version of the game is currently in testing and is expected to roll out publicly on January 1. On the Google Play store, fans can pre-register if they want to receive updates about the app's status.

Since I don't keep up with current trends (I still own a flip-phone), I wasn't immediately aware of this new mobile app that's taking the world by storm (for now)! It's called HQ Live Trivia, and it's a live quiz show that can hold 100s of thousands of contestants at a time. What's unique is that it actually is a live show, and not just a simulation. It is a 15-minute game show hosted by comedian Scott Rogowsky, and... Read More...

For many, it has become a daily regimen: Twice a day, at 3 Pm Est and 9 Pm Est, they attempt to answer 12 trivia questions in a row and win real money. The name of the game is HQ Trivia, and it recently hosted its biggest audience yet. On Sunday, November 19, HQ offered up a $7,500 pool, and 120,000 concurrent players showed up to vie for their piece of that prize.
HQ, from Vine co-founders Rus Yusupov and Colin Kroll, launched a month ago and quickly drew users thanks to its addictive format. The sessions that draw the most attention happen on Sunday nights, when the app tends to give away its largest cash prizes each week. On November 19, news of the $7,500 pot brought a record number of fortune seekers, who responded to questions posed by host Scott Rogowsky.
After a few lay-ups, a devastating question about global pasta consumption eliminated thousands, including yours truly.

Two developers with six seconds of fame in the tech world are back in business with a new app. Rus Yusupov and Colin Kroll, best known as two of the co-founders of Vine, have launched HQ, which delivers trivia questions to users in a live streaming format.
As with many other trivia apps, HQ delivers multiple-choice questions to players and gives them only a few seconds to respond. What makes this offering unique the live format of its rounds. Two times a day, at 3 Pm and 9 Pm Est, host Scott Rogowsky (who we saw in a mobile-friendly talk show earlier this year) fires off a series of 12 questions to thousands of contestants. Anyone who makes it through that gauntlet is eligible to split a cash prize with all of the other winning players. As TechCrunch notes, a recent match resulted in a $150 reward, which was divvied up among the champions via PayPal.

Need to land a date? Looking for a job? Seeking a new singer for your brand? Scott Rogowsky can help you, albeit in a very public way. Rogowsky, a stand-up comedian, is the host of Start Talkin’ (stylized as Start T@lkin’), the latest Complex Networks original series to come to Verizon’s Go90 platform.
Each episode of Start Talkin’ features a guest who must solve a dilemma they would normally sort out through sites like Craigslist. Instead of using that avenue, they must come on Rogowsky’s show and let the comedian serve as a one-man wanted ad resolver. With the help of DJ Cipha Sounds (who has been known to land hosting gigs of his own), Rogowsky will make necessary matches for his guests through a combination of challenges, conversations, and “invasive questions,” according to a press release.

On the first episode of “Start Talkin’ With Scott Rogowsky,” a pop up talk show that surprises its guests with cameras and a live studio audience, stand-up comedian Scott Rogowsky bravely tries to set up a threesome for a cute and quirky gay couple. Introducing odd-couple Keith and Francois, Rogowsky says, “You guys have a great look together, it’s like Amish Jonah Hill and U-same-sex Bolt over here.”
It feels slightly over-written, but Rogowsky sells the joke and manages to put his guests at ease. It’s a testament to the up-and-coming comedian that he took the risk to open with such an unexpected premise.

With over 176,000 subscribers and more than 70 million views on its YouTube channel alone, My Damn Channel is one of the internet's more popular destinations for comedy. But now, the studio and network behind such web series innovations and hits as DailyGrace, My Damn Channel Live, You Suck at Photoshop, and Wainy Days hopes to dramatically up those statistics by bringing more quality programming into the fold. Founder/CEO Rob Barnett just announced the launch of the My Damn Channel Comedy Network, a multi-channel (McN) network that will expand Mdc's library to hundreds of comedy programs distributed across several YouTube channels and on MyDamnChannel.com. DailyGrace (aka Grace Helbig) and fellow Mdc personality Beth Hoyt put together a video in which the pair and their characteristically charming personalities help to explain the origins of the network and dish out some basic facts about joining. They also give a quick shout out...

Ridiculing bad/strange/over-the-top Twitter feeds can be a work of art; for evidence, simply look at the witty replies to any of the technologically-impaired tweets from Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. An independent web series has managed to turn the often goofy nature of celebrity Twitter accounts into a constant source of joy and tongue-in-cheek ridicule. The result is Conversations With A Twitter Feed, where comedians shoot the bull with an inanimate wall of text. Conversations With A Twitter Feed is the creation of Alex Mann, a New York-based comedian who has written for Someecards among other pursuits. Each episode features a different comedian, many of whom are regular performers at Upright Citizen's Brigade and The Pit or featured guests on Conan, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and other shows. Each comedian is paired with the Twitter musings of a notable celebrity, including a silly episode featuring talk show host...

David Cross and Amber Tamblyn have made it official and got married. According to Us Weekly, the couple tied the knot on Saturday, October 6.
Cross and Tamblyn got engaged in August 2011, according to People.
Filmmaker Lance Bangs took a photo of Cross and Tamblyn dancing at their wedding and posted it to Instagram.
"Yo La Tengo playing Superchunk, Mission of Burma, and Pixies covers at David and Amber's wedding," Bangs attached as a caption to his photo.
In May 2012, Cross and Tamblyn appeared on stage together for "Running Late With Scott Rogowsky," a live comedy talk show. The couple poked fun at their age difference -- Cross is 48, Tamblyn is 29 -- and discussed how they first met and how their courtship began.
"I was slow to make any moves because of our age difference, and also because she was a fan," Cross said in May.
Both Cross and Tamblyn are TV veterans.

You really can't script a better Super Bowl—two best-in-breed Pro Quarterbacks in Peyton Manning and Drew Brees marching their nearly-undefeated teams into the big game. Brees' Saints are the scrappy first-timers to the dance, carrying the hopes of a wounded city galvanized by the unlikely success of this band of brothers. Then there's the always calculating Manning, one of the only true player-coaches left in the game, himself a seasoned general on the field marching his Ring-sporting champs back into the stadium where they won it all in 2007. But the latest episode (above) out from 12 Angry Mascots of their popular web series NFL Writers Room, thrashes all notions that this game is actually determined on the field. Atom.com picked up the latest episode, and probably the last of the season of the Espn commissioned comedy, in a exclusive distribution deal for the Super Bowl edition. The New York...
