A lawsuit filed by a Seal Team script coordinator and freelancer who claims he was denied a writing position because he’s a straight white guy has already struck a chord with fellow scribes.
Many took to X to express their frustration with freelance scribe Brian Beneker, who says in the complaint that he suffered by not being part of “the favored hiring groups; that is, they were nonwhite, LGBTQ, or female.” He also called out the “illegal policy” of diversity, equity and inclusion measures.
Beneker, who has worked on Seal Team since 2017 and before that was a script coordinator on Sons of Anarchy, claims in 2019 that he questioned current showrunner Spencer Hudnut over why previous showrunner John Glenn had hired a new male writer when Glenn claimed at the time that “there were already too many staff writers and there was no room for CBS to hire [Beneker].”

After announcing late Wednesday afternoon that “Real Time” will start producing new episodes without writers amid the ongoing strike, Bill Maher received harsh criticism not only from members of the the Writers Guild of America and their supporters, but also from the guild itself.
WGA West, which Maher belongs to, said in a statement that the decision to resume the show “while his guild is on strike” is “disappointing,” and urged him to “honor more than the ‘spirit of the strike,'” referencing a quote from Maher’s announcement earlier Wednesday.
Maher, the guild statement continued, “is obligated to follow the strike rules and not perform any writing service.” And confirming the guild intends to picket the show, WGA added “It is difficult to imagine how @RealTimers can go forward without a violation of WGA strike rules taking place.”

Southern Californians were jolted awake by a pair of earthquakes before dawn, with the largest measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale.
There have been no initial reports of damage or injuries stemming from the quakes, which hit between 4Am and 5Am local time.
Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones tweeted that the larger one, under Lennox, CA (near Inglewood) “would have been felt by most people awake in LA.” It was “very deep,” at about 20 kilometers below the earth’s surface, she added. A “foreshock” nearby hit 3.3 on the Richter scale.
The two main quakes were followed by several smaller ones in the area around Inglewood and Lennox, near Lax and about 10 miles southwest of downtown LA.
Last Thursday, a magnitude 3.2 temblor had shaken the city, with Huntington Park as its epicenter.
Those in the entertainment business had just closed the latest chapter in the run-up to the Oscars with the SAG Awards...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Rick and Morty” Season 4, Episode 3, “One Crew Over The Crewcoo’s Morty.”]
Let’s start with one unassailable fact: Rick Sanchez is wrong about “Ocean’s Twelve.”
Much like many other rants that fuel episodes of “Rick and Morty,” it’s rage that somehow morphs into an appreciation of the thing someone hates. The latest example comes in “One Crew Over The Crewcoo’s Morty,” an episode-length version of a space-set Soderberghian battle of wits between Rick and one of his creations.
It all starts when an act of attempted “cynical grave-robbing” leads Rick and Morty to discover that they’ve been outflanked by Miles Nightly, Rick’s archnemethief. Fueled by revenge, Rick constructs an opposing plan that ropes in all the attendees at HeistCon, a fan expo for heist gadgets, plans, and perpetrators that literally has its own Hall H.
It’s always been part of the “Rick and Morty” toolkit,...
