Last year, Frasier Crane returned to TV screens in the "Frasier" revival series. While it struggled to capture the magic of the original series, "Frasier" 2023 certainly had some high points. The festive season finale was one of the better Christmas episodes, and the show handled the passing of Martin Crane actor John Mahoney beautifully. Then there were the guest stars, which included actress Peri Gilpin, who played Frasier's producer on the original sitcom, and Bebe Neuwirth, who played Lilith Sternin on both "Frasier" and "Cheers."
Lilith debuted in the 1986 "Cheers" episode "Second Time Around," becoming a series regular and eventually starting a relationship with Kelsey Grammer's Frasier before the pair got married. By the end of the series they had broken up, and when "Frasier" debuted in 1993 the titular doctor had moved to Seattle while Lilith stayed in Boston with her and her ex-husband's son, Freddy. 2023 saw the return of Frasier Crane in a "Frasier" revival series that was neither disappointing nor remarkable. But the good doctor must have done something right because Paramount has renewed the series for a second season. "Frasier" 2023 debuted in October last year with a full 10 episodes that saw Dr. Crane (Kelsey Grammer) return to Boston to reconnect with his son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott). Now, as Variety reports, CBS Studios, which produces this new iteration of"Frasier," will push ahead with a new slate of episodes, scheduled to once again shoot in front of a live audience at Paramount Studios. In response to the news, star Kelsey Grammer released a statement, saying:
"'Frasier' is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it. I'm delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can't wait...

The Frasier reboot was years in the making, and now its first season is in the books. While select cast members have returned to the series, not everyone decided to come back. David Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier’s brother, Niles, opted not to reprise his role. Jane Leeves, who took on the role of Daphne Moon, has not appeared either, and John Mahoney, who played Martin Crane, died before the reboot was even a consideration. Kelsey Grammer, the actor behind the iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane, recently revealed who he’d like to see come back for the reboot. The character wasn’t a huge part of Frasier, but she played a massive role in Cheers, the show that introduced Dr. Crane to the world. Grammer revealed he’d like to see Shelley Long reprise her role as Diane Chambers if Paramount+ greenlights a second season of the Frasier reboot.

When the Frasier reboot was originally announced, one of the things most fans wondered about centered around Martin Crane. John Mahoney portrayed Martin, Dr. Frasier Crane’s father, for the entirety of the original series.
While fans would have loved to see Mahoney back in the iconic role, the star died in 2018 from cancer. The reboot has done a great job of honoring his memory. But the loss is still felt, especially by Kelsey Grammer. Grammer, who plays the role of Frasier, choked back tears while discussing John Mahoney on a recent talk show appearance.

"Say Anything" marked America's transition into the 1990s by sealing off the heyday of feel-good high-school rom-coms and goth rock in the '80s. It was a major and much-needed send-off that is probably still an all-time favorite among many a Gen-x-er today.
The coming-of-age hit from 20th Century Fox featured breakout stars like John Cusack and Ione Skye. Even the supporting roles were played by soon-to-be major players like Pamela Adlon or the children of mega-famous stars like Jason Gould.
But not every actor featured in the 1989 romance movie survived into 2024. Unfortunately, John Mahoney, who played Diane's hypercritical (and hypocritical) father, James Court, passed away back in 2018. The late actor was the oldest major cast member by quite a few years and was in his late 70s when he passed. Before his death, Mahoney had an incredible career in film and television — his supporting role as Martin Crane in...

When Frasier Crane returned to screens in 2023, he did so without any of the supporting cast from his original series. "Frasier" ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004, propelled not only by its lovably pompous protagonist but by a cast who seemed as though they were born to play the various supporting characters. From David Hyde Pierce as Frasier's brother, Niles, to Jane Leeves as housekeeper Daphne, the series was boosted by one of the finest sitcom casts ever assembled.
In 2023, however, not a single cast member besides star Kelsey Grammer came back, prompting the actor and his new writers, Chris Harris and Joe Cristali, to dream up a whole new adventure for the titular doctor. In the "Frasier" revival, Dr. Crane returns to Boston, the city he inhabited when he first appeared as a character on "Cheers," and finds himself surrounded by a whole new group of friends and family. Kelsey Grammer has returned to television as the iconic Dr. Frasier Crane, roughly 30 years after the original NBC sitcom first premiered. The Paramount+ revival sees the titular character return to Boston for the next chapter of his life, with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.
In addition to Grammer, the show’s cast includes Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy, Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor Alan, Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department, Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s roommate Eve and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew David.
Co-showrunners Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris told TheWrap that, while there are multiple Easter Eggs and references sprinkled throughout the series, they didn’t want to rely on them as a crutch.

The Frasier reboot officially premiered on Paramount+ in October. The reboot was years in the making. While its premise is certainly interesting and aims to recapture the original magic of the series, it’s different from what the creators initially envisioned. When the Frasier reboot was first being discussed, the show was supposed to focus on Dr. Frasier Crane and Dr. Niles Crane. When David Hyde Pierce, the actor who played Niles, opted out of reprising his role, the team had to go in a new direction. So, what was the original premise?
The original ‘Frasier’ reboot would have focused on Frasier and Niles
The Fraiser reboot that fans are watching is not the reboot that the show’s creators originally intended. Long before the reboot made it to production, there was a storyline floated around that heavily relied on David Hyde Pierce.

The latest episode of Paramount+’s “Frasier,” entitled “Blind Date,” followed as Kelsey Grammer’s titular character competed with his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) for the affections of a woman named June (June Diane Raphael) in a 22-page-long scene.
Director Kelly Park told TheWrap that filming the sequence was “one of the highlights” of her career.
“It really allowed me to prove to myself that I am a technical director,” she said. “Kelsey Grammer was wonderful because he collaborated with me and was with me all the way. It was really divine… they just let me play, let me create, and allowed me to delve into what Frasier used to be and bring it back home.”
But directing a multi-camera comedy in front of a live studio audience is no easy feat.

The "Frasier" revival series might take place in an entirely different city than its predecessor and feature none of the original cast, but it hasn't forgotten its roots. In the very first episode of the new show, which recently launched on Paramount+, Frasier can be seen poking fun at "Cheers" — the show on which his character first debuted all the way back in 1984. That same episode also pays heartwarming tribute to John Mahoney, who played Frasier's father Martin Crane in the original sitcom that ran from 1993 to 2004. We'll also be seeing Roz actress Peri Gilpin return to the show at some point in the near future.
And that's not the end of the references to Frasier's past. In fact, the revival does an admirable job of linking itself to the previous incarnation despite only Kelsey Grammer returning from the original show. When Frasier first arrives in Boston, he's flanked by his nephew,...

Oh dear. The "Frasier" revival was going so well. Or at least it hadn't yet completely tarnished the legacy of one of the great sitcoms. This week, the third episode arrived, however, and things got a little too silly.
Since Kelsey Grammer's lovably pretentious psychiatrist returned to our screens, critics have been divided. The "Frasier" revival seemed doomed to fail after it was revealed that no one besides Grammer would be returning, and when the first episode dropped on Paramount+ on October 12, 2023, the response was mixed. /Film's Josh Spiegel had the correct opinion that the revival was neither disappointing nor remarkable, but many critics were just wrong, and frankly outright hostile to the series. USA Today's review remains the worst, referring to the "Frasier" revival as "unfunny, stilted and downright insipid."
In our nostalgia-obsessed monoculture, this kind of reaction makes sense. Did we need to revisit "Frasier" in 2023? David Hyde Pierce,...

Frasier Crane is back on our screens in a "Frasier" revival that's neither disappointing nor remarkable. The new show is in the unfortunate position of having to revive one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time without any of the supporting cast that made it such a hit during its original 1993-2004 run. The only cast member returning from the original sitcom is Kelsey Grammer himself — which, if you ask the "Frasier" star, isn't a bad thing as he is, after all, the key to the success of the show.
Sadly, that hasn't necessarily played out thus far, as the revival show manages to keep much of the humor and heart that defined the original but still somehow fails to capture its magic. After a heartwarming tribute to Martin Crane actor John Mahoney in the inaugural episode, "Frasier" 2023 sort of limps on while demonstrating flashes of the brilliance that...

Kelsey Grammer returned as the erudite Frasier Crane as the Paramount+ revival of Frasier debuted on Thursday, October 12. The show was, of course, missing the late, beloved John Mahoney, who portrayed Frasier’s retired police officer father, Martin Crane, in the original 1993 series. Mahoney, known for his work in Say Anything, Hot in Cleveland, and on the stage, passed away in 2018 at the age of 77. Here’s how the revival honored his legacy in the pilot episode: Frasier reveals to his friend and former mentor, Alan (Nicholas Lyndhurst), that his father recently passed away and his son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), didn’t attend the funeral. The episode culminates with a heartfelt conversation between Freddy and Frasier, addressing why the young man missed his own grandfather’s burial. “I was about to get on the plane, and I was thinking about grandpa,” Freddy says with tears. “I just couldn’t do it.

I'll admit, I had mixed feelings going into this Frasier reboot on Paramount+.
I was never the biggest fan of Cheers, but I loved the original Frasier and have watched it from pilot to series finale numerous times. The cast of that series possessed the unique mix of talent and chemistry that resulted in TV magic.
The odds were long that a reboot could recapture our love for Frasier and his family over those eleven seasons. Longer still, with most of the original cast missing. I was heartbroken to hear that David Hyde Pierce would not be returning as Niles.
So, upon viewing the new Frasier Season 1 Episode 1, I wasn't surprised that the show had its flaws, but it also has a lot of potential.
Frasier is starting over yet again, this time back in Boston, but expect only a scant aside to his days at that famous bar.

Spoilers for the "Frasier" revival follow.
'90s kids will be pleased to hear that Kelsey Grammer hasn't ruined "Frasier" for us all. When it was first announced, the revival show that just premiered on Paramount+ seemed likely to sully the memory of the beloved sitcom, which ran from 1993-2004 and racked up 37 Emmys across its 11 seasons. But in the age of streaming where the sitcom format seems beyond outdated and everyone's binge-watching high-production value premium dramas, reviving "Frasier" seemed like the perfect way to tarnish our cherished memories of the show.
Thankfully, the "Frasier" revival is actually quite charming, and while it doesn't seem entirely necessary, it at least makes for a return that's neither disappointing nor remarkable. Which, all in all, is a pretty good outcome for those with fond memories of Frasier Crane and his family's Seattle-based exploits.
It might seem a little excessive to worry so much about any of this.

Ask a few diehard “Frasier” fans to name the strangest moment from the show’s 11 season run and you’ll get a few different answers. Some will point to the infamous “Goth Freddie” scenes, in which Frasier’s bookish son shows up looking like a seat filler at a Nine Inch Nails concert. Others will single out the time Frasier stars in a TV commercial that sees his voice imposed on a talking version of Eddie in a nightmarish foreshadowing of TikTok A.I. And of course, someone will mention a stoned Martin Crane explaining that he put his trousers in the refrigerator because he had an idea for “Fridge Pants.” All three are perfectly defensible choices — and they all come from the same infamous episode.

Who knew that when Dr. Frasier Crane first appeared on the iconic 1980s sitcom Cheers, the character would have the staying power to last decades?
Perhaps Kelsey Grammar, who portrays the fastidious psychiatrist, did. Grammar took Frasier from pining over Shelly Long's, Diane, and drinking beers in Boston to telling radio fans, "I'm listening" in Seattle.
Where is Dr. Frasier Crane headed next? We'll take a look at everything you need to know about the new Frasier!
How Did the Original Frasier End?
When Cheers ended in 1993, Dr. Frasier Crane moved back to his hometown of Seattle, Washington. Frasier began a new phase of his career, hosting his own radio show and giving listeners advice.
He also reconnected with his family, which included his father, Martin, a retired police officer, and brother, Niles, who, to viewer's shock, was even more quirky and fastidious than Frasier!

The past few years have seen an influx of legendary multi-camera sitcoms returning to the airwaves, with everything from “Will and Grace” to “Night Court” receiving a reboot. So it was only a matter of time before Kelsey Grammer saw his longtime dream of playing Frasier Crane again come true. A “Frasier” revival is currently in production for Paramount+, with legendary sitcom director James Burrows helming the first two episodes.

After years of speculation and exploratory meetings, a sequel series to the acclaimed sitcom "Frasier" is finally in the works. The project, starring Kelsey Grammer in a reprisal of his Emmy-winning role, was officially given the green light by Paramount+ in fall 2022. At that time, it was revealed that Chris Harris of "How I Met Your Mother" and Joe Cristalli of "Life In Pieces" would be writing and executive producing the show, but there were no concrete details about the plot or the characters. Now, as production begins to ramp up, we finally know the first two cast members joining the esteemed psychiatrist on his new adventure.
According to Variety, Jack Cutmore-Scott will play Frederick Gaylord Crane, the son of Bebe Neuwirth's Dr. Lilith Sternin and Dr. Frasier Crane. Previously played by Christopher and Kevin Graves (and Rob Neukirch in a future sequence) on "Cheers," then Luke Tarsitano and Trevor Einhorn on "Frasier,...

Jack Cutmore-Scott has been tapped to star opposite Kelsey Grammer in Frasier, Paramount+’s sequel series to the classic NBC sitcom. Cutmore-Scott will play Frasier Crane’s son Freddy. Also cast in the followup as a series regular is British actor Nicholas Lyndhurst who will play Alan Cornwall, a university professor who is an old college friend of Frasier’s.
In the new Frasier series, Frasier (Grammer) is off to a different city with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.
Charming and handsome, Frasier’s son Freddy (Cutmore-Scott) is a nuanced combination of his father and grandfather. Years ago, Freddy rejected following in his father’s footsteps—dropping out of college to become a fireman—and he’s never looked back until now, when recent troubles have left him with no one to turn to in his life.

I say this without a shred of hyperbole: "Cheers" walked so every other sitcom after it could run. From the Greendale study room of "Community" to Ross and Rachel's never-ending "will they, won't they" relationship on "Friends," NBC's critical and commercial darling about a bar in Boston created the blueprint.
The quintessential ensemble comedy where everybody knows your name, "Cheers" is rich with biting dialogue and big personalities, which kept audiences gripped for 11 years. Sam and Diane's stormy, yet passionate, love affair remains one of TV's all-time great romances, "Norm!" continues on as a greeting for bar regulars, and the sequel series "Frasier" — arguably the most successful spin-off in television history — is set to find new life in the world of streaming. "Cheers" is a timeless show whose influence is still felt 30 years after Sam turned off the lights and locked the door for the last time.

Now that the Frasier continuation has officially been greenlit, fans of tossed salad and scrambled eggs aren’t just wondering about plot details, but who will return. One cast member who will not, of course, is the late John Mahoney, who played Martin Crane, Frasier’s father–but Kelsey Grammer is planning to honor the actor.
In a new interview, Kelsey Grammer said that John Mahoney, who died in 2018 at age 77, will be paid tribute to on the show in a very much gone but not forgotten manner. “His loss is and was devastating and must be given the proper attention in honor of the extraordinary man he was and the contribution he made to the show and to the acting profession…We will most certainly be honoring him according to his merit. A man of merit he remains to this day.”

Tossed salad and scrambled eggs all around: Frasier is returning to television.
Paramount+ has given a series order to the long-developing revival of the series, with Kelsey Grammer once again playing the title role. The series pickup comes some 19 months after the streamer announced it was developing a follow-up to the 1993-2004 NBC series.
Prior to that, Grammer and CBS Studios began fielding ideas for a revival back in 2018. The new series will find psychiatrist/radio host Frasier Crane (Grammer) beginning the next phase of his life in a new city. The surviving members of the original cast — David Hyde Pierce’s Niles, Jane Leeves’ Daphne and Peri Gilpin’s Roz — aren’t expected to be regulars, though they could make guest appearances (John Mahoney, who played Frasier and Niles’ father, Martin Crane, died in 2018). At this point it’s kind of a hope that Peri Gilpin’s prediction that a Frasier reunion could be in the works is just a rumor and not well-founded. As Makenzie Zatychies of Screenrant states the show was a commercial success and did have a massive fan base, but without John Maloney, who played Martin Crane, it kind of feels as though it might go the way of the Roseanne show, without needing to cut anyone to make it that different. Martin was actually one of the more enjoyable parts of the show and despite the fact that he was kind
