For those who've long been anxious to see the Taraji P. Henson sports drama, "From the Rough," you'll be pleased to know that the film will be out on VOD and DVD on September 2. It was set to have a limited theatrical run in April, via a service deal with Freestyle Releasing, but I can't find any box office information on it. Some of you may have already seen it, but I'm sure most of you have not. So here's your chance, assuming it was on your to-see list. Recall that this is the film that was at the center of a battle for creative control between director Pierre Bagley and financier/producer Michael A. Critelli, which was very well documented on this...

The mission of the Mptd is to: initiate, implement and manage the operations and logistics of programs aimed at generating revenue and stimulating employment and business opportunities in the District through the production of film, television, video, photography and other multimedia projects. Bagley directed the Taraji P. Henson sports drama, From The Rough, which was released in theaters last...

For those who've been wondering what the status of the Taraji P. Henson sports drama, From The Rough, is, and whether you'll get the chance to see it eventually, you'll be pleased to know that the film now has an official theatrical release date. It'll open this Friday, April 25, via a service deal with Freestyle Releasing. No word yet on specific cities/states it'll run, but I'd suggest registering for updates on the film's website Here. I'd assume that it'll be a limited release to start. Recall that this is the film which was at the center of a battle for control between director Pierre Bagley and financier/producer Michael A. Continuing with the 3rd film in this series... The first two were Cynthia Mort's Nina Simone biopic, Nina, starring Zoe Saldana in the title role, and David Oyelowo, and Pierre Bagley's From The Rough, starring Taraji P. Henson. Film number 3 is Haitian (though France-based) filmmaker Djinn Carrénard's second feature, Faire l’amour (or Making Love). It's a film that I actually thought would debut last year, but didn't, and felt rather strongly that it was on its way to an international film festival premiere during the first half of this year - like the Cannes Film Festival, where his acclaimed feature film...

Garret Dillahunt (“Raising Hope”), Tom Felton (Harry Potter), and Jake Abel (The Host) are set to star in Ghosts Of The Pacific, the true story of three WWII Navy flyers cast adrift on the South Pacific in 1942. The feature will be produced by The American Film Company, which specializes in making movies based on true stories from America’s past.
Producer and American Film Co. president Brian Falk will be making his directorial debut recounting the incredible journey of pilot Harold Dixon (Dillahunt), bombardier Tony Pastula (Felton), and radioman Gene Aldrich (Abel) – virtual strangers assigned to a scouting mission on January 16, 1942. When they are forced to ditch their plane, the men are left with no food, water, or supplies; only a 4×8-foot yellow life raft to keep them afloat on a dangerous ocean.

While Michael Clarke Duncan can currently be seen on Fox.s Bones spin-off The Finder, the actor clearly isn.t through with feature work. His latest film credits include the Robert Townsend.s In the Hive, Pierre Bagley.s From the Rough, and now a boxing movie called The Challenger. It was announced today that Duncan is set to play a role in Kent Moran.s boxing drama film The Challenger. Well... I was scheduled to chat with the director of the film Pierre Bagley on Monday morning, but after listening to this, I suppose there isn't much need to now. In the clip below, speaking with Roland Martin on his radio show, Bagley explains what the hold up has been with the release of the Taraji P. Henson sports drama From The Rough, which was supposed to open on February 3rd 2012 (pushed from an initial October date), but, as I noted in a previous post, never did open as scheduled. I sent an email to Gyre Entertainment, the production company behind the film, inquiring about its release, and I did eventually receive a reply, and a phone conversation with Bagley was scheduled for Monday, during which he was to reveal details on the film's release. In listening to the interview below, clearly something's fishy about all this, but I'll let...

Tom Felton may be giving up his bleached-blond Draco Malfoy hair color, but he's not giving up his "Harry Potter" character's bad attitude just yet.
As "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" was breaking box-office records and opening to critical acclaim over the weekend, Felton was already looking forward to his first post-"Potter" film, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which hits theaters on August 5. And from what he's told MTV News about the movie's plot, his "Apes" character has a few things in common with Draco.

Finally, we have our first look at Taraji P. Henson, Henry Simmons, Michael Clarke Duncan, Tom Felton, Letoya Luckett, and others in the upcoming sports drama From the Rough – a project we alerted you to back in August last year.
Pierre Bagley produced and directed the project, which stars Taraji as Cassandra Turner, a fictional character based on the real-life Dr. Catana Starks, a former swim coach at Tennessee State University who became the first woman ever to coach a college men’s golf team. With drive, passion, and guts, she took an unruly group of mismatched kids from around the world and guided them to an all-time record at the PGA National Collegiate Minority Championship.
Simmons plays the college’s snooty athletic director who bumps heads with Turner.
Michael Clarke Duncan plays a maintenance man at the college who knows everything about everyone on campus.

Above and below, you’ll find a 3 new stills featuring Taraji P. Henson, LeToya Luckett, and other members of the cast of the upcoming sports drama From the Rough – a project we alerted you to back in August 2010.
Pierre Bagley is producing and directing the project, which stars Taraji as Cassandra Turner, a fictional character based on real-life character, Dr. Catana Starks, whose story is at the center of the film; she was the first female head coach of an Ncaa Division 1 golf team, who was presented with an opportunity to create a men’s golf team at an Hbcu, but was forced to recruit white and international players, when it became obvious to her that there weren’t many college-age black golfers.
Shooting took place on location in New Orleans, and is reportedly complete. The film should be out later this year.

Taraji P. Henson ("The Karate Kid," "Benjamin Button") has joined the sports drama "From the Rough" for Gyre Entertainment.
The story is inspired by Dr. Catana Starks, the first female head coach of an Ncaa Division 1 men's team. Henson would play a fictionalized version of Starks called Cassandra Turner.
In the film, Turner uses a successful stint as coach of the women's swim team at a historically black college to help her get support to build the men's golf team. With available black players scarce, Turner scours Europe, Australia and Asia to construct a uniquely multi-racial team.
Pierre Bagley directs and produces from a script by Michael A. Critelli. Shooting kicks off early October in New Orleans.

I posted this last week Monday, the 26th, and it’s just now officially hitting the industry papers, so I’m posting it again, with updates… first, at the time, the project was called “Coach Turner”; it’s now called “From The Rough”; second, a production start date has been pegged for October 4. Third, initially, it was believed that Taraji was to play a real-life character named with the name of Turner; Turner is actually a fictional character based on a real-life character, Dr. Catana Starks, whose story is at the center of the film, as described below. A picture of D. Starks is at the bottom of this post.
July 26th – I was just made privy to a feature-film project titled Coach Turner, which is to star Taraji P. Henson, although it’s not yet listed on her IMDb page.
