The Black Mirror episode “Loch Henry” not only features one of the most shocking twists of season 6, it also has arguably one of the most beautiful and picturesque settings of the series thus far. Despite the haunting air that envelops the town near the titular loch, as Davis (Samuel Blenkin) shows Pia (Myha’la Herrold) around his former home, it’s easy to see why Loch Henry was once such a popular tourist hotspot.
Loch Henry and Davis’ hometown may be fictional, but according to actor Sam Blenkin during a press junket, the episode was shot at several real-life locations that he and the rest of the cast were “sort of blown away” by. Blenkin says “We shot about half an hour out of Glasgow, which I thought was amazing. So we were around Loch Lomond for a bit. And then we drove up the road to Arrochar and Inverarnan, which...

Warning: contains major spoilers for Black Mirror episode “Loch Henry”.
A brushed cymbal, a laidback fretless bassline, jazz drums and some sleazy horns. Oh yeah, you think, crime. Then wait a minute, what’s that sound? An accordion?! Where are we – the mean streets of 1970s Chicago or the chirpy colour of a French 1960s Jacques Demy picture?
I’ll tell you where we are: Jersey.
Part of the Channel Islands between the UK and France, Jersey enjoys judicial independence and self-government, just like its most famous export (after tax avoidance): 1980s maverick detective Jim Bergerac.
Played by John Nettles between 1981 and 1991 on BBC One, Jim Bergerac was a police detective turned Pi, and the sheriff ’round Jersey’s picturesque parts. Handsome, troubled, popular with the ladies, and the driver of a signature burgundy Triumph Roadster, Bergerac used to be Mr Sunday Night. For a decade, just after Songs of Praise,...

It was only a matter of time before “Black Mirror” came for the streaming industry, and Season 6 takes a couple of swings directly at Netflix right out of the gate. First with the star-studded, hyper-meta episode “Joan Is Awful,” which introduces the Netflix clone Streamberry (and an arsenal of Easter eggs and references therein). But Episode 2, “Loch Henry,” quiets things down to tackle a much more specific streaming ill — the soulless, exploitative true crime industrial complex and the constant stream of true crime docs digging up traumas from the past.
“Loch Henry” follows an aspiring filmmaker back to his Scottish hometown, where he intends to make a documentary about eggs, only to get sucked into making a film about the horrific crime case that transformed his hometown from a former tourist destination into a desolate ghost town. In “Black Mirror” tradition, the ensemble is a healthy mix of familiar faces,...

Episode 2 of the new season of Black Mirror plays out almost like a found-footage horror in combination with a true crime documentary. It’s a little slow-paced, especially in comparison to episode 1, but still worth it. Definitely plays out a lot like Get Out, and we can’t help but make comparisons; still it’s a decent enough episode on its own though. Loch Henry takes us to a quaint town in Scotland as we meet film students who are excited to make their first documentary.

What Happens In Episode 2?
Davis is bringing Pia, his girlfriend from film school, to his hometown in Scotland for the first time. His mother Janet is very intrusive, and Davis asks her to stop, but she continues to be that way. Pia doesn’t seem to mind though as it would be normal for any parent to behave that way. They’re...

Warning: contains spoilers for the Black Mirror episode “Loch Henry”
“Pretty wee thing you’ve captured.” So says Janet McArdle to her son about his new girlfriend on first meeting her. Janet, a walking cardigan with a tiny voice, turns out to know a thing or two about capture…
Played by Monica Dolan in her second Black Mirror role after season five’s “Smithereens”, Janet lives alone, surrounded by kitsch ornaments and home-recorded VHS tapes of 1980s cosy crime series Bergerac, in the remote Scottish town of Loch Henry. She’s been a widow since the death of her police officer husband Kenny years earlier. When her student filmmaker son Davis (Samuel Blenkin) and his partner Pia (Myha’la Herrold) visit from London, it’s clear how unexciting and provincial they find Janet and her lifestyle. If only they knew.

This article contains spoilers for all Black Mirror season 6 castings but does not reveal episode endings or other big twists.
Four years and a global pandemic later, and the sci-fi anthology Black Mirror is finally returning to Netflix. According to Netflix, season 6 is set to be the “most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet” of the series. As Black Mirror has taken off in popularity, the show has become almost as well-known for its A-list cast as it has for its satirical takes on our world. With stars like Miley Cyrus, Jesse Plemons, Daniel Kaluuya, Bryce Dallas Howard, and so many more appearing in the series over the years, its no surprise that season 6 is just as stacked as the rest.
While there’s still a lot we don’t know about some of the characters featured in this season’s five episodes, here’s what we’ve uncovered so far...
