Mother’s Day means a lot of things — and for many, it means a chance to grab some wire hangers and rekindle a love for the 1981 camp extravaganza “Mommie Dearest.” Starring Oscar winner Faye Dunaway as Oscar winner Joan Crawford, the movie adaptation of a memory by Crawford’s adopted daughter, Christina, was intended to be a serious drama. An awards-bait biopic. Anne Bancroft was attached, initially!
But things went awry, as they always do in the making of a camp classic. And while we wait for Dunaway to address the movie anew in the upcoming “Faye” documentary about her life and career premiering at Cannes, we have A. Ashley Hoff’s making-of book “With Love, Mommie Dearest: The Making of an Unintentional Camp Classic” to tide us over.
One of the most remarkable things Hoff uncovered in his voluminous research is just how enthralled everyone was by Dunaway’s...

Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler has always said that he'd be more than happy to stay on board the franchise and return to helm a third film, and a new rumor is now claiming that he's signed on to do just that.
However, Marvel Studios might be eyeing the filmmaker for another upcoming MCU project!
According to MyTimeToShineHello, the studio wants Coogler to take the helm of the planned X-Men reboot. This follows a previous rumor that a Poc was being sought for the project, and we have heard that Mufasa: The Lion King director Barry Jenkins may also be on Marvel's radar.
Wakanda Forever served as a fitting tribute to T'Challa and the late Chadwick Boseman while establishing Shuri as the new Panther and introducing an entire aquatic civilization. The mid-credits scene also featured the debut of T'Challa's son, who will almost certainly...

Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther in 2018’s Black Panther
2018’s Black Panther changed the game as the film went on to break barriers and won several Oscars. Boseman became synonymous with the character and fans began to consider him one of the best casting choices for a superhero film. If Boseman hadn’t been cast as the character, two other acting veterans would have perfectly essayed the role with pure conviction.

Welcome to the latest instalment of a brand-new feature here on Nerdly, where one of our comic gurus, Ian Wells, delves into comics history and dissects Comics Interview, the long-running journal of interviews and criticism from David Anthony Kraft (Dak).
Up Front
This month rather than basking on the glory of the previous double-sized issue or of reaching the 10th issue milestone he turns the spotlight on Bill Chadwick. He was the first ‘Fan in The Street’ from #1 and since #5 he has been working for Comics Interview in an editorial role. Now I am trying to remember if I gave him a hard time or not?! Anyway, Dak makes a big deal of dedicating the Up Front space to Chadwick but really it just reads as three further questions from the ‘Fan in The Street’ interview. It would be a cool move if he was going to switch this space...

Last year, Alpha Rift director Dan Lantz’s horror film Hayride to Hell had a sold out premiere screening at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania – the same theatre that served as a memorable filming location for the 1958 classic The Blob. Now Hayride to Hell is set to receive a wider theatrical release on October 20th – and in anticipation of that release, a trailer has arrived online! You can check it out in the embed above.
Starring genre icons Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder (who played Jason Voorhees and Victor Crowley in four films each), Hayride to Hell shows what happens when Farmer Sam (Moseley) exacts his bloody revenge on unscrupulous local town-folk, including Sheriff Jubel (Hodder), who menace him and attempt to steal the farm that has been in his family for 200 years.
Moseley and Hodder’s co-stars include Graham Wolfe, Allyson Malandra, Jared Michael Delaney, Shelby Hightower, Melanie Martyn,...

Lupita Nyong’o and others took to social media on Monday to honor the late “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman on the third anniversary of his death.
The “12 Years a Slave” Oscar winner shared on her Instagram a personal black and white image of Boseman at an airport in South Korea from 2018, reflecting that she felt “a singular pain” at the news of his death three years ago and remembering that “the confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again.”
But the post wasn’t meant for Nyong’o to mourn; instead, she celebrated his life and the joys that they shared together.
“This is a photo I took on film at the airport as we arrived in South Korea in 2018. We had just learned to do the baby heart with our fingers. Here Chadwick was adding his suave flare,” she wrote. “We spent a glorious 72 hours there,...
