While Guy Ritchie’s brand new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare isn’t doing as well as everybody wished in the box office, a real lifesaver has already come to the director’s rescue.
Four years after its theatrical release, Ritchie’s action comedy hit The Gentlemen is finally available to stream on Netflix — and the timing for the movie’s arrival couldn’t be better.
Having a star-studded cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Hugh Grant, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong and many others, the film follows American cannabis wholesaler Michael ‘Mickey’ Pearson who seeks to sell his weed empire so that he and his wife Rosalind, portrayed by Michelle Dockery, could spend the rest of their life carelessly.

When Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy series The Gentlemen debuted on Netflix in March, it came in at #1 Global Top 10 for English-Language Series, garnering 1.2B minutes viewed in its first four days on the platform, according to Nielsen. That being said, will there be a Season 2?
“It wasn’t genuinely discussed,” star Theo James admitted today, in an appearance at Deadline’s Contenders TV. “I think it would be a wrangling process with all of us and Guy. But also, I think with a show like this, if you’re going to do more, you need to come up with a really interesting conceit for Season 2. Because as much as we enjoyed it and as fun as it was, it needs narrative drive.”
If an interesting idea is put forward, he said, then maybe another installment is in the cards. “But I think before that,” James added, “there needs to be discussions,...

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen was hailed as a return to form when it hit theaters in 2020, and now the gangster franchise is being expanded with an all-new series on Netflix. While it doesn’t feature the same ensemble cast, the show is very much in the same vein as the film, with Ritchie serving as executive producer and director on the first two episodes.
The entire season is now available on Netflix, and to celebrate the release, we sat down with a big chunk of the ensemble cast. First up were Theo James and Daniel Ings, who play the blue-blooded brothers at the show’s core. They play the sons of a late Duke who’s left them somewhat impoverished but land-rich. They discover their late dad was in cahoots with a major marijuana dealer. With the older brother, Ings’s Freddy, heavily in debt to the mob, the younger,...

Remember Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen"? They're back — in Netflix form. Ritchie has taken his 2019 crime comedy and turned it into a Netflix series, which is now streaming. But just how connected is the show to the movie? Is it the same story now turned into a TV show? Are the same characters back, played by new actors? Just what the heck is the deal here? Don't worry, it's not that complicated.
In Ritchie's "The Gentlemen" movie, which we called "stylish but empty" in our review, Matthew McConaughey plays Mickey Pearson, a wealthy American crook with a cannabis empire in the UK. Here's the official synopsis:
Mickey Pearson is an American expatriate who became rich by building a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he's looking to cash out of the business, it soon triggers an array of plots and schemes -- including bribery and...

The Gentlemen is the latest entry into Guy Ritchie‘s chaotic and hilarious world of crime. The Netflix series is created by Ritchie himself and it is set in the world of Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name. It follows the story of Eddie Horniman, who unexpectedly inherits the title of Duke and his father’s whole estate. Still, he is more surprised as what he doesn’t know is that his father was in cahoots with criminals, who were growing cannabis on their estate. Eddie decides that he wants to rid his family estate of all the weed plants and criminals, but before he can do that he might have to do some criminal things himself first. The Gentlemen stars Theo James in the lead roles with Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Vinnie Jones, Ruby Sear, Joely Richardson, Giancarlo Esposito, Alexis Rodney, and Harry Goodwins starring in supporting roles.

Guy Ritchie’s limited Netflix series adaptation of his movie of the same name shot at the Duke of Beaufort’s Badminton Estate in Gloucestershire, England. “The family was there looking very disapprovingly at us running around in chicken suits and saying ‘cunt’ a lot,” star Theo James told Variety at a special screening of the show at the Tudum Theatre in Hollywood. “They were not impressed. They thought it was going to be ‘Bridgerton.’”
James stars in the series as a British Army officer who inherits his father’s massiva estate, which he eventually finds out is being used by a drug kingpin and his daughter to run their marijuana empire.
Daniel Ings plays James’ older very drug-addicted alcoholic brother. “I think it was vitamins,” Ings said of the fake cocaine he had to snort for the show. “Boy, I went through a lot. It’s fun playing these...

In addition to starring in many British films, Vinnie Jones ventured into the superhero genre with Stephen Amell’s Arrow. The actor played Danny Brickwell in the show. However, it was not the only superhero project that the actor participated in. Before Arrow, Jones was in Brett’s Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

The actor played Juggernaut and had a pivotal role in the film. With the upcoming Deadpool movie bringing back many X-Men characters, some fans wondered whether he would also come back. While forgettable to anyone not tasked with remembering it, Guy Ritchie’s 2019 feature film “The Gentlemen” does embody the two distinct halves shaping the writer-director’s career to date. At the height of its binary world are the aristocrats: affluent Englishmen whose titles and estates grant them access to a refined class of lords and ladies. On the other end are the criminals: conniving Brits who do the dirty work necessary just to get by. What brings them together is Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), an American living in London who builds a massive marijuana business by hiding his farms under the sweeping landscapes of the rich and fortified. The aristocrats get a hefty kickback to support their lavish lifestyle, and the criminals get the relative safety only wealth can offer. Two classes colliding — which happens once someone inevitably screws up — is what gives “The Gentlemen” its juice. Or it’s supposed to,...

Move over, Boar on the Floor, there's a new game of humiliation in town — and this time, it's fatal.
Underneath the drugs and violence of it all, there are a few obvious parallels between Succession and The Gentlemen, a spin-off of Guy Ritchie's 2019 film of the same name. While Succession concludes with the death of media mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox), The Gentlemen begins there: When the Duke of Halstead dies, he defies centuries of tradition by bequeathing his title and extravagant estate to his second son, respected military man Eddie Horniman (Theo James), over entitled "eldest boy" Freddy (Daniel Ings), who's ruled by his cocaine addiction and hedonistic impulses.

In the trailer for Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, Giancarlo Esposito’s Stanley Johnston says, “People either survive in the jungle or exist in the zoo.”
Now, with the first 10 minutes of The Gentlemen’s series premiere above, you can see the inciting incident in a series of unfortunate events that will suck Eddie Horniman (Theo James) into said jungle. In the show’s opening scene, Eddie receives grim news that summons him to his father’s estate alongside his family, including his older brother, Freddy (Daniel Ings). Little does Eddie know, his life as a British Army captain is about to be superseded by a monumental set of responsibilities.
“We’re introduced to Eddie Horniman, and he’s a captain with the Queen’s Dragoons,” James tells Tudum. “At the time, he’s working for the Un and he’s on border patrol. He’s affable, friendly, liked by his troops — a contained man.

In aristocracies across the globe, rank and title are paramount. Set in the same world as his 2019 film of the same name, Guy Ritchie’s new Netflix series, “The Gentlemen,” is a brilliant show about legacy, family and the thrills of self-discovery. While the TV show boasts a brand new cast of characters, the series’ concept focuses on a similar criminal underworld that Ritchie depicted in his film — no prior knowledge of the movie is necessary.
The series opens in Turkey with Army Captain Eddie Halstead (a stoically charming Theo James) and his team conducting checks at the Syrian border. Level-headed and generally affable, Eddie remains calm and collected when he’s abruptly called home amid news of his father’s declining health. Arriving at his family’s palatial estate, he greets his lovely mother, Lady Sabrina (Joely Richardson), his younger sister Charly (Jasmine Blackborow) and his notoriously coked-out hot mess of an older brother,...

The Gentlemen isn’t your normal crime-drama and that’s made clear from the very first episode and the series is all the better for it. Guy Ritchie’s incredible style in storytelling is front and center and while it may stumble at some points, at the end the series gives the fans what it wants (excluding a cameo from Matthew McConaughey or Charlie Hunnam), and the characters in this series are either balls to walls crazy or so suave that they make criminality look sexy.
The Netflix series follows the story of Eddie Horniman, the second son of the Horniman family who surprisingly gets everything after his father’s death, but Eddie is even more surprised as he finds out that Daddy didn’t make all that money investing in stocks, but had some unsavory cohorts, who work on the other side of the law. Paramount+ has ordered Ray Donovan spin-off The Donovans, Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett will write the series with Guy Ritchie directing.
Over the past few years, Top Boy grew from a fairly niche Channel 4 shows into one of Britain’s biggest dramas, courtesy of a commission from Netflix after Channel 4 cancelled the show after its third series. The fifth ans final series aired last year.
Creator Ronan Bennett has now set his next project. The Donovans will expand on the world of Ray Donovan, the crime drama headlined by Liev Schreieber. It followed the titular character, a fixer who arranges bribes and payoffs for insalubrious individuals. The cast also included Jon Voight, Paula Malcomson, Dash Mihok and Eddie Marsan. It ran for 82 episodes over seven series from 2013 to 2020, which was followed by Ray Donovan: The Movie a television film broadcast in 2022.

When Eddie Horniman (Theo James) first gets into the weed business, it’s not because he wants to. It’s because he’s just inherited his father’s estate, along with the criminal pact that’s secretly funded it all these years, and because he sees no other choice to pay off the astronomical debt that his big brother (Daniel Ings) owes to bloodthirsty cocaine dealers. Thus Eddie dives into the illegal-drug industry out of a sense of obligation, rather than out of any real eagerness to break bad.
The show he’s in, Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, similarly feels like the dutiful product of a prior commitment. Like Eddie, the series tries to deliver what’s expected of it, and like Eddie, it more or less gets the job done. But where Eddie very quickly discovers he’s uniquely suited for the gig he never wanted, the action...

This post contains spoilers for The Marvels.
With the exception of maybe Avengers: Endgame, no MCU movie just ends. Borrowing from the comic book medium in which its characters were born, MCU films end with cliffhangers and portends, mid- and post-credit scenes that tease up the next movie or storyline.
That’s certainly the case with The Marvels, the latest MCU entry and latest indication that the superhero boom is now a whimper. The post-credit scene offers yet another nod to the X-Men, but that’s not the only question viewers have after watching The Marvels.
As David Crow put it in Den of Geek‘s review, the movie feels like “a post-production Frankenstein situation where a combination of ideas are thrown at the wall by reshoots and reedits.” As a result, The Marvels ended with many unanswered questions.
Some of them are little annoyances, like “Why didn’t...

Netflix’s The Gentlemen series doesn’t feature the same ensemble cast as Guy Ritchie’s 2020 film of the same name. However, Ritchie says his new series is set in the same sort of world as the film, and that’s confirmed in the show’s first official teaser trailer.
The R-rated feature film starred Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, and Michelle Dockery. The ensemble of the 2024 series that it inspired is led by Theo James (The White Lotus 2) and includes Ray Winstone (The Departed) and Kaya Scodelario (The Pale Horse). Daniel Ings (I Hate Suzie), Joely Richardson (Lady Chatterley’s Lover), Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), and Chanel Cresswell (This is England) also star.
The cast also includes Michael Vu, Max Beesley (Hijack), Jasmine Blackborow (Marie Antoinette), Harry Goodwins (In His Hands: The Emergence), Dar Salim (The Covenant), Pearce Quigley (Detectorists), Ruby Sear, and Peter Serafinowicz (The...

Just four years after the movie hit theaters, Netflix has turned Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen" into a TV show. The above teaser trailer for the series offers proof of that, introducing a drug empire, a cast of criminals, and some vintage Ritchie shenanigans.
The teaser admittedly doesn't dive too deeply into the story, but it does do a great job of capturing the vibe. It's all set to the tune of "Time of the Season" by The Zombies, with some welcome narration by Giancarlo Esposito, of "Breaking Bad" and "The Boys" fame. Esposito is just one part of a pretty well-stacked ensemble led by Theo James ("The White Lotus"). Blood, boxing, and quips, this has all of the hallmarks of a classic Guy Ritchie production. It certainly has a similar feeling to the 2020 movie, but it also feels designed to satisfy "Snatch" fans. The official synopsis for the show...
