Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith both had to make many compromises to make their marriage work. And although Smith was the man that Jada Pinkett wanted to marry, the visual image she had of her husband didn’t align with the reality.

Jada Pinkett already had some idea of what life would be like after marrying Smith. But the life she imagined was far from what it would actually become. Speaking to rapper Wale on her Red Table Talk (via Entertainment Tonight), Jada Pinkett talked about one of the hardest lessons she learned from marriage.
“Let me tell you, nobody talks about the sacrifice, the deteriorating and dissolving of fantasies,” she told the rapper. “You right now, have in your mind, your perfect woman. And when you find that woman,...

Every year, I get a kick out of interviewing the Oscar-nominated screenwriters at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. This year’s panel included two rookie film writer-directors (Cord Jefferson of “American Fiction” and Celine Song of “Past Lives”), two first-time feature screenwriters (Samy Burch of “May December” and David Hemingson of “The Holdovers”), two who studied law (Hemingson and Josh Singer of “Maestro”) and two co-writers with live-in partners (Burch and Arthur Harari of “Anatomy of a Fall”). And oddly, three have westerns in the works as their next projects.
Here’s a few highlights of what I gleaned from these brilliant writers.
1. David Hemingson leaned on his relatives for “The Holdovers.”
The television writer first wrote a pilot about an East Coast boarding school that his agent told him he could use as a writing sample. But the script got to Alexander Payne who liked it and cold-called...

A column chronicling conversations and events on the awards circuit.
It was a very big night for 12-time Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Thursday night.
That’s where the Maestro star received the Outstanding Performer Of The Year award from presenter Brad Pitt. But for two hours before that, he sat down with me for an in-depth look at his career with a wide variety of clips we chose to highlight his many talents, plus a killer sizzle reel to kick things off before I brought him up on stage to a massive standing ovation from the completely sold out crowd of 2,000 at the Arlington Theatre.
Cooper’s co-star in Maestro, Carey Mulligan, also appeared on stage to sing her co-star/director/writer/producer’s praises before we showed a scene from their film towards the end of the evening. It was a...

Bradley Cooper got his big break when he was cast as one of Sarah Jessica Parker’s love interests on Sex and the City. But the actor wasn’t exactly prepared for success. He was so used to being rejected after auditions that when he learned he’d gotten the part, fear took over.

Nick Cannon really had us there for a second. On March 7, the father of 12 announced plans to star in "the mother of all game shows," a shocking new series titled "Who's Having My Baby?" Hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, the show's premise was pitting single women against one another to choose the mother of Cannon's next child. In the accompanying promo video, Hart excitedly tells Cannon, "You're gonna get some contestants that wanna have your baby!" as several ladies walk on stage in front of a studio audience. The teaser claimed the series would release this spring on E!
If the concept sounds too absurd to possibly be real, that's because it is. We're relieved to report that "Who's Having My Baby?" is an elaborate troll, despite E!'s attempts to promise they're "def not kidding around" about it on Twitter. The hoax was executed...
