Lauri Burns grew up in Orange County foster care and ended up homeless, addicted to heroin and worked the streets as a prostitute for
almost five years. In 1987, Lauri's life was almost taken by gang members while working the streets. Abducted and taken into the woods, a man she calls her angel saved her life that night. In 1989, Lauri took in her first abused child and shortly after became a foster mom and was trained by a prior trick on computers, owning a computer consulting firm and working at Northrop Grumman as a consultant for 15 years.
Lauri's life story, Punished for Purpose, was published on Amazon in 2010 and has brought worldwide press. In 2007, after raising 26 foster kids Lauri launched The Teen Project nonprofit in her off hours to help kids that were leaving foster care and ending up addicted, homelessness and trafficked. Today, The Teen Project has 126 beds and eight sites throughout Southern California. The Teen Project provides free drug detox and treatment, as well as vocational schooling and transition to permanency to young women lacking resources, everything that Lauri received to turn her life around.
