Formerly titled The Bride, the Dracula-inspired horror movie The Invitation was released in theaters by Sony’s Screen Gems on August 26, debuting in the #1 spot on the box office charts with 6,805,468 in 3,114 theaters in the US. Now in its second week of release, the vampire movie added another 6 million to its domestic total across the four-day Labor Day Weekend.
The film’s domestic total is now 15,045,000, with The Invitation finding itself in the #5 spot on the domestic charts. Worldwide, The Invitation has sunk its teeth into 18,545,000.
The Invitation has been compared by many fans to Ready or Not, a horror movie that opened with 8 million domestically back in 2019. That film ended up legging its way to 28.7 million in the United States and 57.6 million worldwide, numbers The Invitation isn’t likely to hit.

The Dracula-inspired horror film The Invitation (formerly known as The Bride) is now in theatres, and just opened at #1 at the domestic box office with a weekend haul of 7 million. Our own Chris Bumbray was surprised at how bloody the film was for something with a PG-13 rating, and he mentioned that to director Jessica M. Thompson (The Light of the Moon) during an interview – which you can watch in the video embed above. Thompson said they had to darken the blood to get by with a PG-13… but during an interview with our friends at Bloody Disgusting, she also said that there is an R-rated cut of The Invitation that’s going to get a streaming release!
Thompson said,
I’m someone who thinks you lose the tension as soon as you reveal your monster. I feel like the longer you can hold it off, the better. So there...

Sony’s Screen Gems released vampire movie The Invitation into theaters over the weekend, the PG-13 horror movie scaring up 7 million here in the United States thus far.
The film has largely been de-fanged for theatrical release, but director Jessica M. Thompson tells Bloody Disgusting that a rated “R” cut exists… and will be released.
“The PG 13 version is what’s going to be out in cinemas, but the R version is actually going to be online on the streamers. There’s more prosthetics in that one,” Thompson told Bloody Disgusting’s Meagan Navarro as part of an interview conducted ahead of the film’s release.
Thompson continued, “Yeah, a little bit more blood, a little bit more of that, but I’m someone who thinks you lose the tension as soon as you reveal your monster. I feel like the longer you can hold it off, the better. So...

It was a relatively quiet weekend at the box office, but the good news for the horror genre here is that The Invitation became the #1 movie in the country this weekend.
The Invitation scared up 7 million domestically in its opening weekend, with the film’s current worldwide total now sitting at 8,600,000 (via Box Office Mojo). The film was able to pass Bullet Train, now in its fourth week of release, and it also passed fellow new release Three Thousand Years of Longing, with George Miller’s latest only making 2.9 million.

‘The Invitation’ Film Review: Nathalie Emmanuel Can’t Save Cliched Take on Socially Conscious Horror
If the mostly by-the-numbers plot of “The Invitation,” and its eventual ridiculous twist, is tolerable at all, it’s due to the effortless effervescence that star Nathalie Emmanuel lends to this modern-day horror with gothic embellishments, as a mix-raced woman barely getting by in NYC who gets to live a British royal fantasy until it turns into a literal bloody mess.
Invoking “Twilight” and “Beauty and the Beast” with watered-down hints of “Crimson Peak,” the new feature from director Jessica M. Thompson (“The Light of the Moon”) opens with a suicide scene that insinuates the timelessness of its story. It’s here that its efforts to misdirect the audience about the type of supernatural entity we are dealing with begin.
In a more recognizable present, Evie (Emmanuel), a ceramics artist that stays afloat through catering jobs, takes a DNA test that connects her with a (white) cousin in England, Oliver...

Despite some ambitious efforts by director Jessica M. Thompson and screenwriter Blair Butler to revitalize hoary horror movie tropes with allegorical commentary on race, class and male privilege, “The Invitation” is too wearyingly hackneyed for too much of its running time, and too often laugh-out-loud funny as its plot relies on the age-old convention of a smart yet naive heroine who makes one bad decision after another. It would not be at all surprising if, at some screenings, exasperated members of the audience shout rude things at the screen each time the endangered protagonist fails to act in her own self-interest.
Evelyn (Nathalie Emmanuel of “Game of Thrones”) is a free-spirited twentysomething New Yorker who insists that everyone, even total strangers, call her Evie — and she insists quite frequently, just so we don’t miss the fact that she is indeed a free spirit — and scrapes by as wait staff...

The Invitation, now playing in theaters nationwide, draws from Bram Stoker’s Dracula for its modern gothic reimagining. More specifically, it spins a contemporary gothic tale inspired by the three vampire women referred to as the “sisters,” more commonly known as the Brides of Dracula. The Invitation wants to shroud its gothic romance in mystery but rooting the story in a classic text means its protagonist is the only one left in the dark.
Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel) struggles to make ends meet. The artist lives paycheck to paycheck through her catering gig, where she’s put upon by an unkindly boss and lecherous guests. Evie’s also still grieving over the loss of her mom, the sole family member she had left. Or so she thinks. Evie’s best friend gifts her with an ancestry test kit, which puts Evie in connection with relatives she never knew existed. They invite...

Formerly titled The Bride, the Dracula-inspired horror movie The Invitation is on the way from Sony’s Screen Gems, sinking its fangs into theaters on August 26, 2022.
Jessica M. Thompson directed the upcoming horror movie, rated “PG-13” for…
“Terror, violent content, some strong language, sexual content and partial nudity.”
Described as “a contemporary horror thriller,” The Invitation tells “the story of a young woman who is courted and swept off her feet, only to realize a gothic conspiracy is afoot.”
That “gothic conspiracy,” it turns out, involves blood-drinking, with Evie drawn into a world of vampires. This is very much a Dracula tale, only with a fresh new twist to it.

"As you all know, there has been someone missing from this table." Screen Gems has revealed the official trailer for a sneaky new British horror thriller titled The Invitation, from Australian filmmaker Jessica M. Thompson. Also known as The Bride, this takes place in England, but was filmed in Hungary crazy enough. Not to be confused with the other indie horror hit also titled The Invitation from 2015. A young woman discovers through a DNA test that she has a long lost, "very white" cousin, who invites her out to a lavish wedding in the English countryside. But she soon discovers that "a gothic conspiracy is afoot" involving her family's history. Nathalie Emmanuel stars as Evie, with Thomas Doherty, Stephanie Corneliussen, Alana Boden, Courtney Taylor, Hugh Skinner, and Sean Pertwee. Legion creator Noah Hawley treated these three deeply strange, often riveting, occasionally indecipherable seasons as his arena of infinite promise. Coherence — both...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of tonight’s Legion series finale on FX.
After three mind-bending and time-traveling seasons, Legion came to an end tonight by going full circle, including on the soundtrack with The Who’s “Happy Jack.”
A baby, a showdown with the parasitic Farouk (Navid Negahban), a new beginning and future X-Men boss Charles Xavier (Harry Lloyd) empathically telling his powerful telepathic son David Heller/Legion (Dan Stevens) that he was “trapped in a war you didn’t start.” Did Daddy make it all better in the end of the series finale co-directed and co-penned by Hawley? Could anyone make it all better for the perpetual battle zone that was David’s psyche?
Well, Legion being Legion, yes and no, as the self-described “twisted rainbow” and exquisitely crafted series co-starring Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza Jermaine Clement, Stephanie Corneliussen and Lauren Tsai made clear tonight...

After three seasons of being alluded to, though never named, on-screen, Professor X has finally appeared on Legion. As protagonist David Haller (Dan Stevens) is the son of the X-Men founder, fans have been wondering when Charles Xavier would make himself known on the series, and last night’s episode of the FX show’s final season belatedly introduced him.
Game of Thrones‘ Harry Lloyd played the iconic character for a flashback-filled bottled outing that explored how Charles fell in love with Gabrielle (Stephanie Corneliussen), David’s mother, and touched on his life as a soldier in World War II. Such a different take required a brand new interpretation of Xavier, but at an earlier stage, the production team considered approaching Patrick Stewart to make a comeback.

Legion Season 3 Episode 3
We were never supposed to get Charles Xavier on Legion. When the show was developed, FX and Fox made it quite clear that though a passing reference may be made to David’s famous mutant father, the character was unlikely to appear on screen. In Fox’s eyes, having Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy appear as Professor X on the FX series would only further muddle the already complicated X-Men timeline, and Noah Hawley’s wigged out vision for his series didn’t quite align with their prized X-Men franchise cash cow, so having another actor portray one of the principal leads of their series wouldn’t be preferable either.
With the Fox-Disney merger, all of those hang-ups and worries would disappear. Fox’s...

FX released the trailer for the third and final season of its X-Men series “Legion,” and by the looks of it, things are even stranger than its first two seasons.
David Haller (Dan Stevens) is now situated in a remote commune calling himself “The Magic Man,” while his former friends and Summerland, including the Shadow King (Navid Negahban), are plotting to kill him. There’s also a shot of Lenny (Aubrey Plaza) as the Mad Hatter.
For its final season, “Legion” is bringing in its most famous mutants in Charles Xavier, better known as Professor X, the leader of the X-Men. He also happens to be David’s father. Though the identity of Haller’s father was heavily teased as being Xavier (just like in the Marvel comic the series is based on), this will mark the first time it’s 100% confirmed. Stephanie Corneliussen is also coming aboard the final season as David’s mother,...

Legion‘s story is drawing to a close this year… but not before a much-anticipated family reunion.
The upcoming third season of FX’s mind-bending mutant drama will be its last, the network confirmed this week, and creator Noah Hawley says that was his plan all along. “I think endings are what give stories meaning,” he told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “I always thought about this as a complete story with a beginning, middle and end, and it felt like a three-act story, and so this just felt like the natural place to end it.

Yesterday it was reported that the FX’s Marvel series Legion would come to an end after Season 3. Today it has been confirmed that Professor X would appear in its final season.
The official Twitter page made the announcement and also revealed that former Game of Thrones actor Harry Lloyd will play Professor X, while Mr. Robot actress Stephanie Corneliussen will also appear as David Haller's mother, Gabrielle.
Professor X has been teased in the series and we knew he would eventually show up. There was a shot of Xavier’s iconic wheelchair in the series, which was the actual wheelchair used in the movies. Legion showrunner Noah Hawley also teased the idea of getting Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy to make an appearance, but obviously that’s isn’t going to happen.

“Legion” has found David Haller aka Legion’s parents. Stephanie Corneliussen and Harry Lloyd have been set as guest stars for the Noah Hawley-created FX series upcoming third and final seasons, playing Gabrielle Haller and Professor X, respectively.
The casting news was revealed Monday via the show’s official Twitter account, in a tweet that read: “Noah Hawley is pleased to announce two guest castings for the final year of #LegionFX. Stephanie Corneliussen will play David Haller’s mother, “Gabrielle,” and Harry Lloyd will play his father, ‘Professor X.'”
Earlier Monday, FX CEO John Landgraf told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour that the “X-Men” drama would be concluding after its upcoming third season. FX took center stage at the winter Television Critics Assn. press tour on Monday. Panels included new shows including the upcoming limited series “Fosse/Verdon,” Taika Watiti’s comedy “What We Do in the Shadows” and “New York Times” docuseries “The Weekly,” as well as returning shows “Better Things” and “Legion.”
FX President John Landgraf opened the day with his now customary keynote address on the current state of television, which this time focused heavily on Netflix’s rapid expansion and opaque business practices. Landgraf wasn’t subtle with his displeasure about Netflix’s refusal to share its data and ratings (not to mention journalists who repeat their talking points without being able to independently verify them), stating that “the truth will come out, as it always does.”

Stephanie Corneliussen is a sight that will surely take your breath away if you appreciate beauty, but she’s also a talented woman beyond the runway as well. While she might not be known all that well on the movie circuit she does manage to get around when it comes to TV, though her resume isn’t as well padded as it could be at this time. That could be due to the fact that she still seems to have a very successful modeling career and it could take up a great deal of her time. This vibrant young woman has managed

Legion Season 3 is almost over. Check out the trailer for the penultimate episode of Marvel and FX's high-concept mutant origin story.
David Haller's struggle against the Shadow King and his own mind isn't over quite yet. FX has released the third season of Legion, giving us more mind-bending, psychedelic superhero whackiness to look forward to.
The show is a loose collaboration between prestige cable network FX and Marvel. Legion doesn't fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the TV universe, the comic universe, or really any other universe at all. It's entirely its own weird thing as envisioned by Fargo creator Noah Hawley. It just also happens to feature Marvel comics character David Haller known as “Legion” in the X-Men universe, who may be the most powerful mutant in the world, or just insane...or both.
Unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly, the series will end...
