Doug grew up in Chicago and began to study improvisation with
Viola Spolin at "The Second City" in the early 60's. He later worked at "The Game Theater" and in director 'Paul Sills'' early "Story Theater" productions before moving to San Francisco and becoming Creative Director for one of San Francisco's longest-running improvisational theater troupes, "Flash Family" beginning in 1978. He still teaches improvisation in the Bay Area.
