The Dcu, a ‘broad but not blanket’ reset of the Dceu, headed by James Gunn, has a lot riding on it when it comes to the future of Warner Bros. in general. While the highly anticipated Superman movie is set to become the first major offering under the new regime, a number of other highly-anticipated movies are also in the pipeline.
This includes the upcoming Batman II movie, which is set to further the journey of Robert Pattinson’s Batman and is rumored to have a place for Barry Keoghan’s Joker. While there have been rumors of several other antagonists who might as well end up being a part of Batman II, a fan on Twitter recently came up with his own iteration of how the movie should look like.

When Colin Farrell was cast as Oswald Cobblepot, The Penguin, in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, many fans were skeptical as they did not know what to expect from the interpretation. Farrell definitely did not look the part, but the costume design crew did an amazing job and Farrell delivered a brilliant villain who was so good that HBO ordered a standalone spin-off series focusing on The Penguin. The series, which will be titled The Penguin, is set to be released later this year and we have just today received some interesting casting rumors!
Namely, we know that Farrell is reprising his role and that the series will focus on Penguin taking over Gotham’s criminal underworld after the death of Carmine Falcone (played by John Turturro in the film) at the hands of the Riddler.

We didn't initially pay a huge amount of attention to rumours that Mark Strong had been cast in The Penguin in a mystery role, but his trainer has now let the cat bat out of the bag in a series of Instagram posts.
Giacomo Farci was asked if it's true he worked on The Batman follow-up, promoting him to reply, "Yes, I've trained Mark for it." Asked if he could reveal who the Shazam! star is playing, Farci said, "I cannot answer to this question but I'm sure you will figure it out."
Needless to say, we're guessing he won't be reprising his role as the villainous Doctor Sivana, a villain whose story ended on a largely unsatisfying note thanks to an unresolved cliffhanger in both the first movie and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
So, who has Strong been cast as in The Penguin?

Colin Farrell is teasing The Batman spinoff Max series The Penguin and is calling it “incredibly violent.”
While promoting Apple TV+’s Sugar, the actor revealed he had just wrapped filming the first season and “stuck a fork in it two weeks ago.”
“It was a long and really wonderful experience,” Farrell said in an interview with MovieZine. “It’s dark, that’s what I can tell you about it. It’s really dark. It’s really heavy, I think, it certainly was doing it. Which is not to say I didn’t have fun, I had an amazing time doing it, but it’s incredibly violent.”
He continued, “It’s one man’s rise to what he’s always dreamed of inhabiting, which is a certain power or social status.”

Though many critics thought another Batman reboot would be overkill, filmmaker Matt Reeves largely silenced early detractors with his moody and atmospheric “The Batman” (2022), which starred Robert Pattinson. As we eagerly await “The Batman—Part II,” Reeves will flesh out his vision for Gotham City with “The Batman” spinoff series “The Penguin.” Focusing on the crime villain Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin (played by Colin Farrell), the series is set in the aftermath of a power vacuum in the crime-ridden megalopolis of Gotham created by the death of crime boss Carmine Falcone (played by John Turturro in Reeves’ first film).

Robert Pattinson is all set to reprise his role as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman Part II, slated to hit theaters in 2025. Pattinson debuted as the titular character in The Batman (2022), giving the character a new perspective.
Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne wasn’t the usual rich playboy. The 37-year-old actor brought depth by portraying him as more of a recluse.

In the 2022 film, the British star faced off against Carmine Falcone—a cunning crime boss who runs his operations with an iron fist in Gotham City.
Falcone doesn’t have flashy costumes like other Batman villains, but he’s still a big part of Bruce Wayne’s story. Some also say that the villain might have always known that Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne is secretly The Batman.

The highly-anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman has been pushed back from its original Oct. 3, 2025 release date on the Warner Bros. slate. The movie will now release Oct. 2, 2026. That means there will now be an over four-year gap between the first film, which saw Robert Pattinson don the cape and cowl, and Part II.
This will of course come as disappointing news for DC fans who have been awaiting the second installment in what’s meant to be a whole trilogy of Batman movies from Reeves and Pattinson. But it isn’t all bad news for Batfans, especially if (weirdly) you also happen to be a fan of The Dark Knight. Taking over the Oct. 3, 2025 spot on the slate is another WB production, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, which is a reimagining of the Bride of Frankenstein, starring Bale, Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, and Penelope Cruz. Originally set for release in 2025, it has been announced by Warner Bros. today that hotly anticipated sequel The Batman Part II will now be releasing in theaters much later.
Robert Pattinson’s Batman returns to theaters on October 2, 2026.
Matt Reeves will return to write and direct the sequel. Additionally, we recently learned that the sequel’s script is being written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin (The Batman).
The Batman was a huge box office hit for DC & WB back in 2022, the latest live action take on the iconic Caped Crusader crossing $770 million at the worldwide box office.
No plot details for The Batman 2 are available at this time, but a deleted scene from the first movie suggests we could be seeing more of Barry Keoghan‘s Joker down the road.
A spinoff series centered on Colin Farrell’s “Penguin” is also coming soon.

Whether you loved The Batman (2022) or thought it was overhyped, it's hard to find anyone who didn't at least enjoy Colin Farrell's unique take on the Penguin.
So, when it came time to pitch a spin-off, Farrell's scene-stealing crime boss seemed the natural choice. He steals your attention anytime he's on the screen, and who doesn't love an epic crime drama?
Details on the new TV series following Oswald Cobblepot are scant at present, but we've managed to dig up a bit of info to whet the appetite.
Has The Penguin Been Greenlit?
Yes, The Penguin is in post-production as of the time of this writing, so go ahead and get excited. This isn't one of those things they announce, and then everyone forgets about it; it's actually happening.
Filming has already wrapped, and now it's simply a matter of waiting for the release date.

The son of a farmer, Wilkinson approached acting like a pure professional; he was committed but unsentimental, never sparing unneeded effort. He spent his early acting days in the 1980s content with roles on TV, but he shifted his focus to films in the 1990s because, as he bluntly admitted, that's where the money was. He recounted to the Guardian in 2008: "I was broke, and in a position I'd never been in before -- phoning people up to ask: 'Have you got anything for me, anything?' I knew lots of actors who were making movies, and I thought: 'I'll have a piece of that, please.'"

We have some very sad news to close out 2023, folks. Tom Wilkinson, one of the finest and most beloved character actors of this (or any other) generation, has died suddenly at 75. Deadline was the first to report the news. The twice Oscar-nominated co-star of Michael Clayton, Batman Begins, In the Bedroom, and many more films last appeared in Disney Plus’s sequel series to his breakout role in The Full Monty.
Between 1998 and 2018, Wilkinson was one of his generation’s most prolific character actors, with his output putting him up there with Brian Cox and Brendan Gleeson. He made over 65 movies and TV series in that twenty-year period, starring in everything from high-profile arthouse fare like Todd Field’s In the Bedroom to his role as Carmine Falcone in Batman Begins. He often played villains, such as in The Lone Ranger, but had the range to take on pretty much any part.

“The world ain’t built for guys like us.” So says Colin Farrell’s The Penguin in our first official glimpse at the Max series, which is due to air in 2024. When Matt Reeves released :a[The Batman]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-batman/' target='_blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} in cinemas last year, it didn’t just unleash a brand new Dark Knight on the world – it began the building of a whole new Gotham. Yet another production hit by the strikes – TV spin-off The Penguin, starring The Batman’s Colin Farrell – has resumed filming.
Like Beetlejuice 2 and numerous other productions in the works this year, The Penguin was disrupted by the writers’ and actors’ strikes which took place through much of 2023.
The Penguin, the TV spin-off from Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman, originally began filming back in March, only for it to be called off as those strikes began in June. After a lengthy – and most likely, costly – hiatus of about eight months, Variety reports that shooting has now resumed on the TV series.
In it, an unrecognisable Colin Farrell reprises his role as Oswald Cobblepot, who you may remember from Reeves’ film was depicted as a mid-ranking hoodlum rather than the formidable crime boss – unlovingly nicknamed the Penguin – known from the comics. Logically enough, the TV series will chart Cobblepot’s rise...
Like Beetlejuice 2 and numerous other productions in the works this year, The Penguin was disrupted by the writers’ and actors’ strikes which took place through much of 2023.

Batman's origin story is a tale as old as comic book time.
A dark and depressing alley. The gunshots. The falling pearls from a broken necklace. A need to take down criminals and a fascination with bats.
Bruce Wayne's journey to become Gotham City's protector has been everywhere, from film to gaming to TV. But it was the series on Fox that has a special place in our hearts: Gotham.
Gotham ran for five seasons from 2014 to 2019. The show, which you can watch online via TV Fanatic, followed many iconic characters in Batman lore years before Bruce put on the mask.
You got the seriousness of The Dark Knight mixed in with some fun comic book campiness. It was a best of both worlds that left passionate Batman fans divided over which tone they wanted.
The great thing about Gotham is that it fully embraced the antics of Gotham City.

It's been more than a year since Robert Pattinson's emo Caped Crusader arrived in "The Batman." Director Matt Reeves' noirish take on the Dark Knight might not have had quite the cultural impact of, say, "The Dark Knight," but it did manage to become a box office hit during a troubling time for the industry. Furthermore, there were certainly memorable moments, such as Pattinson's anti-hero mercilessly beating a helpless thug into oblivion before delivering uttering, "I'm vengeance." We also have Colin Farrell's Penguin telling Batman, "Take it easy, sweetheart!" and being fluent in Spanish.
John Turturro's Carmine Falcone, however, was not quite so meme-worthy. However, some here at /Film have argued that Turturro's crime lord is the secret weapon of "The Batman," and he certainly has an integral part in the narrative. As the movie plays out, we learn the shocking truth: that the crime boss who...

Who has a better rogues gallery than Batman? Sure, the X-Men have some greats in Magneto, Stryker, and Mr. Sinister. And Spider-Man’s got the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Mysterio. But none of these baddies can touch the denizens of Arkham Asylum for their variety and malleability. Even if film adaptations keep going back to the same few characters, the psychologically twisted enemies offer room for multiple interpretations, allowing actors to find something different to each version.
But as great as they are, some Batman villains are better than others, allowing for a clear ranking of all the Bat-Baddies.
First, Batman may not have any limitations, but this list does. This ranking only covers live-action theatrical feature films. So we’re leaving off characters that never made it to the movies or those who appeared in an animated movie.
Furthermore, we’re focusing mostly on costumed villains, not regular thugs,...

Colin Farrell was virtually unrecognizable as Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, in 2022’s gritty “The Batman” film from Matt Reeves. Now they’re bringing the character to the new Max streaming service for an eight-episode series in 2024. An in-production preview of the series was unveiled on April 12 exclusively during Warner Bros. Discovery’s unveiling of the Max streaming service on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles. Watch it above.
In “The Batman,” Farrell played the Penguin as a lieutenant for crime boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) who ran Falcone’s Iceberg Lounge. Spoiler alert: Falcone doesn’t make it to the end of the film, perhaps opening the door for other criminals to take control of Gotham City’s underworld. The film earned a trio of Oscar nominations: Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, the last of which was largely in recognition of the extensive prosthetics worn by Farrell.

And as far as Colin Farrell‘s Oswald Copplepot is concerned, that position is his for the taking. That’s the driving force behind “The Penguin,” the upcoming Max original series, in production now.

Matt Reeves is swapping Batman for Buster Keaton.
The “Batman” director is set to helm a limited series based on the life of actor Buster Keaton, with Rami Malek transforming into the silent film star. Reeves will also produce the series through his 6th and Idaho Productions production banner under an overall deal at Warner Bros. TV.
Malek and David Weddle are confirmed to also produce; Ted Cohen is in talks to serve as executive producer and writer. The upcoming series is expected to use James Curtis’ biography “Buster Keaton: A Filmmaker’s Life” as source material as Warner Bros. is negotiating the rights for the 2022 book.
Vaudeville actor Keaton made his onscreen debut in silent comedy “The Butcher Boy” and went on to collaborate with Douglas Fairbanks, Joseph M. Schenck, and Edward F. Cline, among others. Keaton eventually formed an eponymous production company and began directing films like “Sherlock Jr.

One of the most unlikely impressive performances of the year belongs to a member of Batman’s rogue gallery. Usually, the instinct is to think this refers to the Joker; however, 2022’s The Batman showcased a newer take on the Penguin character, referred to only as “Oz” in the film. The amazing part is that audiences either found out or constantly questioned that it was none other than Colin Farrell in an unbelievably unrecognizable performance.
Farrell, while promoting The Banshees of Inisherin, spoke about how he was selfish to want to keep playing the character, and the actor has finally got his wish granted with the upcoming Penguin spin-off series set to appear on HBO Max. It was previously thought that the spin-off was to be a prequel outlining how the villain became a lackey for the bigger mob boss of Gotham City, Carmine Falcone. However, ComingSoon has the report...

This post contains spoilers for "The Batman."
While Matt Reeves' "The Batman" was pretty much a triumph on the whole, it's not hard to deny that Colin Firth's Penguin was a decisive highlight. The big wigs at Warner Bros. must have thought so too, as the character will soon be heading up his very own series on HBO Max. The spin-off will apparently take place just a week after the events of "The Batman," which ended with the death of mafia don Carmine Falcone. "The Penguin" will likely address the power vacuum that Falcone's death leaves behind in Gotham, and follow Oswald Cobblepot's rise through the ranks of Gotham's underworld in order to take that power for himself.
Farrell himself has cited the HBO prison drama "Oz" as a point of inspiration for "The Penguin." That series followed the shifting tides in a fictional men's prison — fittingly named the...

Cristin Milioti will join the cast of HBO Max’s upcoming series The Penguin, a spinoff series of Warner Bros. The Batman film. Although details about the show are scarce, many speculate the series will take place after the events of the film, with star Colin Farrell recently confirming the opening scene. Milioti will star as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Gotham mob boss Carmine Falcone, who John Turturro played in The Batman while Penguin served as his right-hand man. Sofia was originally introduced in Batman comics in the mid-90s, and Milioti serves as the second actress to play the character in a live-action series, following Crystal Reed’s portrayal in the Fox series Gotham. The Penguin will also serve as the second HBO Max film Milioti has starred, previously leading comedy series Made for Love, of which was canceled in June following 2 seasons. Spoilers ahead for "The Batman."
It's time to delve even deeper into Gotham City's crime-ridden underbelly. As you may have heard, we're getting a Penguin-based limited series from HBO Max as a spin-off of the Warner Bros. film "The Batman." Colin Farrell will reprise the role of Oswald Cobblepot in the series that will begin about a week after the film ended. Since the finale of "The Batman" had Gotham flooded and the criminal element left without a leader, things are likely going to be chaotic. Batman (Robert Pattinson) may have helped to save the day, but the aftermath of an event like that is going to shake things up and leave open a lot of avenues for crime to rear its ugly head again.
The Penguin is a major player in the Gotham underground, but he's not alone. He's got a rival in Sofia Falcone, daughter of the late Carmine Falcone,...
