Friday on "Live! With Kelly," host Kelly Ripa decided to try her hand at noodling with the cast of "Hillbilly Handfishin.'" Noodling is a sport where fisherman wade into the water and literally try to catch catfish with their hands and feet.
Ripa didn't fair very well. "Hillbilly Handfishin'" stars Skipper Bivins and Trent Jackson blindfolded her to simulate the murky water they have to deal with in the swamps of Mississippi, and she got squeamish at the prospect of a catfish biting down on her foot. Skipper didn't help matters by jokingly grabbing her foot, which thoroughly freaked Ripa out.

"Mudcats" (Thu., 10 p.m. Et on History) star Marion Kincaid is no stranger to wrestling massive catfish out of the depths, but on Thursday night's episode the fish planted one on Marion, hitting him in the head. It also gave him a nasty bite on the hand.
However, in the end Marion triumphed over the leviathan and took it to the weigh-in. Was it big enough to beat Skipper Bivins' whopper? Both fish weighed around 40 pounds, but Marion's tipped the scales at a few ounces more for the win.
Follow the race to the title on "Mudcats," every Thursday at 10 p.m. Est on History.

Week after week viewers have seen Skipper Bivins and the gang wrestle massive catfish out of the depths on "Hillbilly Handfishin'" (Sun., 8 p.m. Est on Animal Planet), but every now and then the fish manage to get their own back.
Skipper and Jackson were taking their rookie handfishers out in the river when Skip got a nasty shock -- a catfish leapt out of the water and hit him straight in the jaw.
Being hit in the face is an occupational hazard for these guys -- remember Skip comforting Tabby the model after she was hit in the face? -- but as Skipper said, this one caught him off-guard: "I never see it coming!"
Newbie handfishers Sean and Shane were suitably awestruck. "When that fish come out of the water, and sucker-punched the Skipper," said Shane, "I was like, 'Damn! This sport is real!'"
Luckily for Skipper, as...

The handfishers on "Hillbilly Handfishin'" (Sun., 8 p.m. Est on Animal Planet) and "Mudcats" pull giant catfish out of the water so regularly that viewers could be forgiven for thinking that all the catfish down south are 50-lb behemoths.
City slicker Vinny and his co-worker and "Dallas Socialites" team mate Jacqueline had gone to learn the ancient -- and often controversial -- art of handfishing from expert Skipper Bivins and his gang, but he got more than he'd bargained for when he came face-to-face with a monstrous flathead.
Vinny ended up in what he described as "a tug of war with the dang fish!" When the man vs. fish battle seemed to have come to an impasse, Skipper helped out as Vinny continued to wrestle with the catfish.
Eventually Vinny was victorious and emerged from the depths clutching his whopper of a catch. Fish subdued, his team mate Jacqueline was...

Shan's relationship with his mom Carla had been deteriorating since he moved to Florida, so they thought a spot of "Hillbilly Handfishin'" (Sin., 8 p.m. Est on Animal Planet) could be an excellent way of reconnecting and spending some quality time together.
However, the week they spent learning the ancient and often controversial art of handfishing, or "noodling" with Skipper Bivins and the gang, was not all fun and games.
A clearly terrified Carla was uncomfortable being in the water and the catches just weren't going Shan's way. After a frustrating week, he was in danger of being out-smarted by the catfish and out-fished by his mom.
Would Shan ever be able to catch something big and redeem himself in the process?
As he said, on his last day he was finally "in the right place at the right time and one was finally coming my way." Veteran handfisher Trent Jackson admired Shan's determination.

Models Melissa and Tabby joined the "HillBilly Handfishin''' (Weds.,10 p.m. Est on Animal Planet) gang in Oklahoma as they tried to learn the ancient art of catching massive catfish with your hands and/or feet.
Keen to learn Handfishing, otherwise known as "Noodling," Melissa and Tabby were sitting in the water with the others when a huge catfish just leapt out of the water and hit Tabby in the face.
Although she wasn't badly hurt, Tabby was very shaken and for a while could only scream "Oh my god!"
As a concerned Skipper Bivins tried to see if she was okay, Tabby quipped, "It doesn't hurt. It's just going to be ugly when I try to put my eyeshadow on."
Later, she said she never even saw the fish coming. "It felt like somebody just threw a brick right at my face."
"HillBilly Handfishin'" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m.
