Friday Night Dinner knows the truth about families. Not that they bicker, mock and childishly compete – sitcom’s known about that since Steptoe & Son. No, Friday Night Dinner knows that families aren’t made up of people; they’re made up of odd habits.
Did you ever invite a friend home from school and pray that none of your family’s Weird Stuff would leak out into the playground the next day? That your mum’s special word for a fart wouldn’t follow you down the corridor into Maths, and the dinner hall wouldn’t echo with the high-pitched voice in which you all talk to the dog? Perhaps you hoped against hope that your brother wouldn’t be wearing his comedy Viz Buster Gonad t-shirt, that no-one would see the wooden clothes peg holding open the choke on your dad’s car, and that nobody would call...

Following in the footsteps of Aardman Animations legends Peter Lord, David Sproxton and Nick Park, a new wave of creators are driving the company forward. While its celebrated franchises, such as Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and Chicken Run are still much loved, and it has four Oscars wins with nine further nominations under its belt, Aardman is also focused on nurturing new talent, such as the creators of Oscar nominated short film “Robin Robin,” and series, such as “Lloyd of the Flies” and “The Very Small Creatures.”
Speaking to Variety from Aardman’s headquarters on Spike Island, Bristol, in the West of England, two of the creative minds behind “Lloyd of the Flies,” Aardman’s first CGI series, explain how the show evolved. In other articles, Variety speaks to Dan Ojari and Mikey Please, the creators of “Robin Robin,” and Lucy Izzard, the creator of “The Very Small Creatures.

Calvin Harris and Vick Hope are married! The Scottish DJ and British radio host reportedly tied the knot at a lavish estate in Alnwick, England, on Sept. 9 and treated guests to a gorgeous reception outdoors, People confirms. Representatives for Harris did not immediately respond to Popsugar's request for comment.
Harris, 39, and Hope, 33, have known each other for nearly two decades, but their initial encounter wasn't exactly the love-at-first-sight type. Harris asked Hope on a date in 2007 shortly after releasing his hit "Acceptable in the 80s," but she turned him down. "It's something that we laughed about on our first proper date," she told You Magazine earlier this year. "We still laugh about it now."
The pair reconnected years later and were first romantically linked in early 2022. They made their first public outing as a couple last May, with Hope wearing a large emerald-cut diamond ring that sparked engagement rumors. The...

Rumors of TV and Radio 1 presenter Vick Hope being engaged to global DJ Calvin Harris have been circulating since last summer, and now Hope has seemingly confirmed the happy news. In a cover interview with The Mail on Sunday's You Magazine, the 33-year-old, who was wearing a large diamond ring, revealed that a "very precious thing has happened" and that "it was . . . perfect."
Harris is reported to have proposed on his farm in Ibiza last summer after the couple were spotted together at the Chelsea Flower Show in May 2022. But Hope has been keen to keep the details to herself, noting that "there's a difference between secrecy and privacy."
In a world where people share every part of their lives on social media, Hope ensures the boundaries between her public persona and her private life are kept firmly in place, so don't expect any PDAs anytime soon. "We don't...

No, there won’t be any more Inbetweeners. But what else would you like to ask the Friday Night Dinner actor and Days of the Bagnold Summer director?
There’s a lot more to Simon “Will from The Inbetweeners” Bird than meets the eye. As he’s said himself, he’ll probably never quite get away from his role at the posh one with the briefcase in three Channel 4 series and two films of Iain Morris and Damon Beesley’s teenage-angst-ridden sitcom. Although he had a damn good try as slightly less annoying son, Adam, in six series of Channel 4’s gone, but not forgotten, Friday Night Dinner.
Bird made his West End debut in 2017’s The Philanthropist with Charlotte “Ghosts” Ritchie, Lily Cole, Tom Rosenthal and Matt “Toast of London” Berry. In a three-star review, the Guardian’s Michael Billington described Bird’s performance as: “Funny rather than sad.

Formula 1 Finale Goes Terrestrial
Sky has inked a deal with Channel 4 for Sky Sports’ live coverage of the Formula 1 season finale to also air on the free to air channel this Sunday. Lewis Hamilton stands on the brink of history – victory in Abu Dhabi would clinch an unprecedented eighth world title. The Brit is currently on equal points with adversary Max Verstappen. Sky is billing the race as ‘Lewis v Max: Decider in the Desert’. Earlier this year Channel 4 struck a lucrative deal with Amazon to share the streamer’s coverage of the US Open featuring Brit Emma Raducanu and the broadcaster also secured the Cricket World Cup final from Sky. The F1 deal is likely to be a similarly costly pact. Stephen van Rooyen, EVP & CEO UK & Europe Sky said: “Sunday’s Grand Prix is one of the biggest sporting events in the last decade, and could...

Friday Night Dinner is ten.
That’s ten years of crimble-crumble, humble bumbling, manic misunderstandings, and more lovely bits of squirrel than you could shake a dead fox at. For thirty-seven Friday nights across six glorious seasons the Goodman family – shirtless dad, Martin (Paul Ritter); long-suffering but ever hopeful mum, Jackie (Tamsin Greig), and their visiting prank-wanker sons Adam (Simon Bird) and Jonny (Tom Rosenthal) – served up a banquet of laughs to a hungry nation, ably assisted by chronically persistent, reality-adjacent next-door-neighbour, Jim (Mark Heap) and his faithful dog, Wilson, and a host of other regulars and monstrously memorable one-offs besides.
In celebration, then, of one of the most smartly-observed, perfectly-cast comedies of recent years, in chronological order, we count down ten of the show’s best.

For anyone else who spotted a familiar face on It's a Sin, you're not alone. Tracy Ann Oberman, otherwise known as Aunty Val from Friday Night Dinner, does indeed make an appearance on the show. Formerly known for playing Jackie (Tamsin Greig)'s best friend, and aunty to boys Adam (Simon Bird) and Jonny (Tom Rosenthal), she became a familiar favorite throughout the zany sitcom's six seasons. Oberman is known for her starring role on EastEnders, while she's also made appearances in Ricky Gervais's hilariously sad After Life, Toast of London, and Doctor Who, marking the first time she's worked with with It's a Sin producer Russell T Davies.
On It's a Sin, Oberman plays Carol Carter, a talent agent who seeks to help Ritchie (played by Olly Alexander) get his big break. Set in the 1980s, the show explores the effect of HIV and AIDS on London's West End performers,...

A mixed bag, all told.

Jimmy Fallon was just as moved by a little girl's heartbreaking song about dinosaurs as you were. On Tuesday, British musician Tom Rosenthal posted on Twitter an audio recording of his almost 4-year-old daughter Fenn singing her first solo song, "Dinosaurs in Love," saying she came up with the lyrics and he helped her with the music, and backed her up on the piano. The track went viral. On Thursday, Fallon covered the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon...complete with a British accent. His house band The Roots joined in. This week, the internet has gifted us with a delightful new stress reliever in the form of “Dinosaurs in Love,” a stirring new viral hit by a “nearly 4-year-old” singer-songwriter named Fenn.
“Dinosaurs eating people/Dinosaurs in love,” Fenn croons over an emotional piano line, provided by her father, musician Tom Rosenthal. It’s fair to say that the commotion preceding Doctor Who‘s unveiling of Jodie Whittaker almost brought the Internet to a standstill.
Before it became public knowledge that the Thirteenth Doctor was, in fact, a woman, scores of big-name Hollywood actors were linked with the hit BBC series – Kris Marshall, Ben Wishaw, Tom Rosenthal, Vicky McClure…you name it – including Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The soon-to-be Han Solo actress came into contention two months ago, before being ruled out of the race altogether due to her ongoing commitment to that galaxy far, far away. But in that brief period of time, Waller-Bridge was arguably the hot-tipped favorite to become the next Time Lord, and that’s something Jodie Whittaker addressed while appearing on BBC Radio 2 (via Digital Spy).
Not unlike the recent James Bond news, Whittaker was sworn to secrecy before the BBC announced her to be the first female Doctor,...

I'm Hazel Hayes and I run a YouTube channel called ChewingSand. It's mostly vlogs and short films. Last year, I left my job at YouTube (i.e. Google) to be a full time YouTube Creator, which essentially means I now make videos for a living! But it takes a lot of hard work to build a career on YouTube and a big part of that is growing a loyal audience who will regularly come back to watch your content. This is why one of the big milestones, and often the hardest one to reach, is your first 100k subscribers.
For me, hitting 100k has meant more recognition for my work, the self-satisfaction of seeing my channel grow, more opportunities to do amazing projects and meet amazing people (like speaking with Guillermo del Toro about a horror film I made), more offers from brands wanting to work with me, and therefore...

We're not sure if there will be a second series of Bear Grylls: Mission Survive yet, but golly, if there is, any celebrities signing up would have to be pretty brave indeed! The first series - which comes to an end on Friday (April 3) - has seen the famous faces involved getting wet, cold, miserable, ill and, of course, drinking their own pee.
Now just three are still standing for the final - Kelly Holmes, Mike Tindall and Vogue Williams. We caught up with Vogue to celebrate her getting so far and chatted about her hardest moments, eating rat lollipops, why her husband Brian McFadden probably wouldn't do as well on the show, and which stars she'd love to see taking on the jungle...
Vogue on... how things could possibly have been worse.
"I'm glad I wasn't afraid of water or heights, because I think those things would have been really hard.

The celebrity contestants on Bear Grylls: Mission Survive are faced with drinking their own urine in a preview from Friday night's eye-opening episode (February 27).
Jamelia, Vogue Williams, Emilia Fox and Laurence Fox retched repeatedly during the tough survival task, but comedy actor Tom Rosenthal knocked his back with ease and even commented that it "genuinely tasted quite nice, like tea".
Former rugby player Mike Tindall also seemed to take it in his stride.
"It's mind over matter," Grylls barked as the star competitors spluttered and experienced difficulty in swallowing their wee.
"It's not fun, it's not pleasant but all of you were solid," he added before announcing that Tom had come first in the task.

We love a Bear Grylls show, so throw eight celebrities into the mix and things are bound to be good, right? That was ITV's hope with Mission Survive, which saw eight famous faces being literally dropped (like, from a helicopter) into the Costa Rican jungle and forced to trek for miles.
The stars really did seem to be tested, from their scary leap into a lake from said helicopter - something hydrophobic Dame Kelly Holmes found particularly difficult - to their attempts to retrieve food, start fires and even hang hammocks.
Some of them seemed to take to the whole thing more than others - Vogue Williams was very handy with a tent, thanks to her two construction degrees - while others struggled, a lot. Like Jamelia, who was terrified of everything from horses to spiders to climbing, and even managed to accidentally burn her bra on night one.

It will be the first time that the channel has reversioned a show that airs on its Us counterpart, reports Broadcast.
Tiger Aspect will produce a 30-minute pilot, which will air in early 2015 if picked up for a full series.

Jimmy Carr will narrate the UK pilot, with stories played out by Dustin Demri-Burns, Tom Rosenthal, Mathew Horne and Rob Beckett.

Even though new episodes of Chicago Fire started airing this week in the Us, there's still no official word from Sky on when the crew of Firehouse 51 will return to the UK.
However, in previous years Sky Living has been a little under a month behind NBC - so we'd expect Chicago Fire to return to the schedules in mid-to-late October.
Just try and avoid the mahoosive spoilers circulating the interwebs - the news of who survived that explosion (and who didn't) is out there!

While not quite a mockumentary, this film covers the same fruitful territory of disastrous gigs, incompetent managers, brainless hangers-on and inter-band conflict. Yet, while Spinal Tap were a heavy metal band powered by twin engines of egotism and stupidity, Benny & Jolene are hamstrung by shyness, naivety and a total inability to speak up for themselves.
Benny (Craig Roberts) and Jolene (Charlotte Ritchie) are a two piece folk band with a surprise number one single under their belt. We meet them as they’re being awkwardly thrust into the world of the minor celebrity with an appearance on daytime TV show This Morning. The two are endearingly awkward, tripping over their words and telling stories that don’t really go anywhere, their normality in stark contrast to the tanned slickness of the presenters.
This is, unfortunately, the peak of their career.

Getting its world premiere at the London Comedy Film Festival earlier this year, Jamie Adams’ directorial debut, Benny & Jolene, is just weeks away from arriving in cinemas this summer.
Charlotte Ritchie (Fresh Meat) and Craig Roberts (Submarine) top a great cast, and with its June release date fast approaching, Verve have released a great first clip from the film, teasing a little of the comedy, and difficulty, of traversing the music industry as two young rising musicians.
Benny and Jolene are a folk duo, supposedly on the up. But 19 year old Jolene is having trouble convincing her writing partner Benny to become more commercial. Too many industry types get involved, leaving Jolene feeling dazed and confused and Benny marginalised. Now they are on a crowded tour busy on their way to a festival in the most beautiful, yet remote, location – forcing them to confront their ambitions and emotions for the first time.
